See, this is why you use a restricted user account in windows for everyday tasks, turn UAC to the max, and only use admin accounts for installing software. We are not in 2007 anymore, UAC works wonderfully and apps that break because of it should probably not be used anymore anyways. If i were to play this game, the request for administrative access via UAC would have made this suspicious immediately and i probably would have just clicked cancel and deleted it :v:
lmao the virustotal results, i made it rescan and it went from like 5 detections to 9 :v:

Edit:
If you're extra paranoid, create a simple password for your admin account that you can type with your left hand, so you can't accidentally click 'yes' inside UAC :eng101:
Funny thing is, assuming what people are saying is true and this really is a case of going apeshit in the name of paranoia, people are probably going to try and reverse engineer/de-DRM this thing and do exactly what the author feared would happen: cheat and steal the sprites.

Frankly it's pretty fucking dumb that Windows allows root-level access with a password-less button prompt in the first place
-snip, dumb-
well there goes todays plans
Honestly, I hope someone rips entire spritesheets from this game using printscreen and distributes them everywhere just to spite this guy.
If it weren't for Ken Penders suing Sega and Archie for his Knuckles recolors I'd call this the peak of "OC DO NO STEAL"
Why the hell would he waste so much time on that rather than making a decent game?
Also those sprites edits aren't even that great.
The concept of adding creepy stuff to seemingly innocent games its something I really like for some reason.
A creepy pasta/ meta-game where your game goes weird with certain conditions is fine.
But this game's literally malware bundled for possible profit of the developer in the most insidious of ways.
I wonder why he did it? Did he believe nobody'd notice? His name as a game developers forever tainted if his game was in any way decent, and otherwise he's going to have to build up a new account for trust over his next work to begin with.
Even if it's for protecting his own files and his own game from possible crackers and modders, that still makes no sense when you yourself are illegally using assets from a company, let alone abuse the fanbase of that company for your own agenda.
What a weird case...
Looks like the dev realized how bad they fucked up and nuked their DeviantArt account, only thing left are the comments left on their profile. Apparently they were mass-hiding them until about 12 hours ago

Speaking of the developer, this seems to have been the blast of a ticking tomebomb

Can't say I'm surprised. The guy has been showing signs of being neurotic for a good couple of years, to the point he would delete his won videos a few days later for no reason, and if you dared to use any of his work, he would deem his game as canceled until you removed anything that is his (even if you just used it for a Flash animation nobody gives a heck about). His ego is just that far up his ass that he doesn't knows when he's crossing the line.
His sprites aren't even that good either. Yes, they are good looking, but most of them are Sonic edits. It's nothing worth bragging about, let alone going this far.
This. Fucking this,
I remember 5-6 years ago how every now and then he'd just come up and say "shit's canceled" and when asked why would divulge into "wahhh people are stealing muh sprites" (sprites of which I've never even seen credit for, but someone can correct me on this).
Which is why I'm not even surprised with this level of paranoid idiocy. He's that much of a paranoid twat to whine and constantly cancel his shit over things that he never even proved. (He claimed numerous times his sprites were stolen and not in my memory did I ever see him show proof of this).

Which sprites do you guys mean? Aren't those character sprites from Sonic Battle?
That explanation video is a bit of a clusterfuck, don't know why that info couldn't just be written as text instead of a video that scrolls faster than you can read
There's a person in the comments of the really fast text video being oddly defensive about the game, trying to argue that it doesn't do anything malicious to one of the people reverse engineering the malware. Among the claims are that it needs the IP for multiplayer and that the admin requirement is a Win10 bugfix. Of course the commenter's channel is almost nothing but Gather Battle videos. I'm not gonna flat out say that they're involved in some way, but it's really suspicious.

So definitely worth the spyware shit. Assets from Sonic Battle, Whatever Advance series, and i guess Rush as well. Oh and of course Sonic's Japanese voice actor.

Looks like a really ok-ish beat-em-up at best, not sure it's something worth putting my computer hostage to a malware and a paranoic developer.

The SAGE2016-Current versions were confirmed to have the first anti-cheat layer (not the full on spooky mode), so I wouldn't be surprised if the game has had it from the start.

Bingo. Glad to see someone here get it. Apparently no one picked it up. Come on, the guy is over protective of an game teaming with nothing but assets and Japaense voice actors...none btw belongs to him.
A lot of the time these sorts of things that call back to the server have credentials to that server or otherwise are a public API. I wonder if anyone now has personal information leaked because of this idiot.
