A long time ago, I used to live in a neighborhood with a sizeable lake in the middle of it. It wasn't gigantic, but it was big enough to take a small two seater boat out if you wanted to go to the deeper water to catch fish. We had rules on what kind of fish we could catch and at what times of the year to keep it from overpopulating/underpopulating. The lake had a drain towards the deepest waters that ran out to a spillway by the highway.
Around the time that I was eight years old, the lake was drained and dredged to make it deeper so we could have more varieties of fish in it. I was amazed by this, because I had never seen it without ANY water in it. Little eight year old me decided it would be awesome to walk out there and just see what was at the bottom of the lake. I went out there one day with my friend. We were trotting along finding all sorts of weird shit. Old dolls, bottles, shit I think we found a little toddler's bike in there too. Most of what we found was too deep in the dirt to reliably bring out, but it was still an interesting adventure.
At the time I did not possess an understanding of thermodynamics and thermal mass. Nor did my friend. At the time we did our little expedition, it was around three or four days after the lake was initially drained. I wanted to go sooner but it was too wet.
My friend and I decided to go towards the center of the lake. Almost like Strelok's trek to the center of the Zone. Who knows what unknown riches we could find there! So walking we went. As we got further and further into the center, the dirt got muddier and muddier. Eventually it turned into what I can only describe as quicksand.
I got stuck. Ahhh, oh well. Guess we can't go further. Let me just take my feet out of the mud and we'll turn around. Huh. Well...it looks like I can't get my feet out. As I struggled and pulled on my legs to bring them out of the mud, it just caused my body to sink in further. And further. Eventually I was up above my waistline.
As Cthulhu's maw started to consume me, I started freaking the fuck out. I began screaming for help. My friend ran off to get my dad. Meanwhile I was waiting for death. I stopped trying to struggle and just accepted it. My dad came running out and he threw a rope out to me to grab onto so he and my friend could pull me out. By the time they got to me I was up to my titties in mud and who knows what else.
Cthulhu's hungry maw tried to take me that evening. The cosmic horrors lying at the bottom of the lake did not get my soul, but they did get my pants and shoes. That must have satiated their hunger, because I was let free from the grips of death.
Theres an analogy for brexit in there somewhere
Blocking a freeway is really stupid, but someone getting seriously injured isn't funny.
It's also outright illegal in California for a pedestrian to interfere with traffic.
Hope you enjoy the medical bills because you aren't winning a personal injury suite you fucking moron. And good riddance I say.

Where isn't that illegal, lol.

it's how they cracked down on OWS here in ny, once they started blocking off bridges.
Everything aside the driver speeded and drove away, shouldnt he stop after hitting a person? That ought to count as hit-and-run, right?
Looked like he pulled over to the left to me, didn't he?
Everything aside the driver speeded and drove away, shouldnt he stop after hitting a person? That ought to count as hit-and-run, right?
The video literally focuses on him slowing down and pulling over.
It's amazing that they're protesting Trump, yet are incapable of doing anything but shouting "Fuck Donald Trump" and "Get on/off the freeway!"
Imagine the entitlement of a generation that thinks they can walk into the middle of a freeway in the middle of the night and expect not to get hit by cars.
I know not all are bad but millennials need a serious fucking wakeup call.

Imagine the entitlement of a person who thinks it is okay to nearly kill someone with their car and drive away. You're delusional if you don't think this was at least reckless and criminal of the driver.

Imagine being put in a position where you have to decide between stopping to help and likely getting the shit beat out of you by an angry mob of idiots, or keep driving and getting charged with hit and run.
Barring an actual nutjob who sees these people and decides "hey I'm going to try to kill one", this is "reckless and criminal" of everyone walking on the highway. They should be charged with public endangerment and an array of other crimes. Particularly at night, this is no different than those dipshits who drop things off of overpasses.
I am more concerned with accidents these assholes might cause wherein a driver swerves to avoid them and ends up killing themselves, or worse, their passengers or another driver.
Tbh, I would just honk the horn and not slow down. Not my fault what happens after that if they haven't moved.

They could've easily slowed down and avoided hitting a person. They could've at least honked the horn to warn the people. If there is someone in the way of the road and you see them and don't at least slow down enough to a safe speed, you're a bad driver and probably a psychopath. Not saying the protesters are in the right, but attempting to maim/kill someone for inconveniencing you is blatantly insane.

they were hard on the brakes and turning.
Barring the fact that Trump is trying to move his fraud case to after he has Presidential Immunity, I see the protest movement as a way to fight against all the shit he said, or in other words, "to make sure violence and bigotry isn't normalized". We already saw a spike in violence and I think it's important that our leaders can't say horrible shit and retcon it into something not horrible later.

Turning? Where's the turn?

Area where the accident happened. As you can see other than the on ramps (which you can tell by the video they were not on), the I-5 is pretty straight here.

same area

[t]http://i.imgur.com/Xt6kQiY.png[/t]
car was in the second lane to the left
[t]http://i.imgur.com/NffB0XW.png[/t]
it was heading in a straight line and clearly had enough time to slow down to a safe speed or even move one more lane left for extra safety

hell let's go back more

from this distance in them middle of the nights, in order to not see the protesters the driver had to either be drunk, blind, or insane.
Whats next, blocking railroads and getting mad when the train doesn't stop and it runs someone over?

Social Darwinism at its finest. Can't wait until they try blocking runways and the pilots stop giving fucks.
deported into the fucking ground

turning as in switching lanes. You posted the image yourself where you can see the car isnt straight in it's lane(angled towards the single open lane)
Looking at this they blocked 3 out of 4 open lanes on an interstate at night, the protestors also are constantly moving to block more lanes.
Making a 2 lane quick change that probably became a 3 lane as they shoulder checked assuming they were properly in the leftmost lane.
phone lights also aren't a great lighting source and even combined with street lights probably would've been p dark to see the outskirts of the protest. You have to remember the video doesn't give an accurate visibility comparison with phone camera light levels.

U think some highway driver is trying to re-enact Death Race 2000?
a crowd that big is impossible to miss, even at night
a crowd that big is impossible to miss, even at night
apparently not hahahaha. dont walk on the fucking freeway for any reason jesus theres no argument here. i dont care about the politics they could have just not walked on the freeway and this wouldnt even have been a problem and some special snowflake college student wouldnt have been linebackered by a car.
HOW COULD THIS HAVE BEEN PREVENTED?
[editline]16th November 2016[/editline]
THERE WAS NO OTHER WAY ;-;
wtf is wrong with the majority of you.
a crowd that big is impossible to miss, even at night
thats what im saying?
A true martyr of idiocy.
I go to UCSD -- I was there, they passed by my dorm around midnight and I decided to follow them. Once they reached the freeway, I noped the fuck out though, can't believe they actually went there. Otherwise, it was very peaceful, nobody went around destroying anything, just walking and chanting.
I recall the police even saying not to go into the freeway and that they weren't going to follow them if they kept going.
thats what im saying?
referring to visually
So they thought the best way to protest Trump getting into office would be to go to a highway at night and block it?
I don't think that's a great place and time for spreading your message.
The best way to protest trump is investigate his past wrong doings, then spread that information on the net. He does have a shady past. Mob ties. Abusing immigrant for free labor. There is plenty of stuff to de legitimize him with or least limit The Don's impact on society by getting him tied up in legal proceedings. He is not scandal free.
This would be a better tactic vs playing in traffic. Who the fuck thought that was a good idea?
wtf is wrong with the majority of you
Our culture is like this in so many ways. America got its start as a colony of Europe's undesirables and rejects. It shows.
Social Darwinism at its finest. Can't wait until they try blocking runways and the pilots stop giving fucks.
Remember the pick up truck driver u tube video? The one where he stopped and was threatened with bodily harm? Yeah, fuck you I ain't risking my life with a confrontation of some idiots. Im going to floor the gas pedal. Better them then me.
referring to visually
its not about seeing them it's about figuring out what size they are. When they are pointing their cell phone lights at you, not to illuminate themselves. Pretty obvious that buddy misjudged just how far the crowd was stuck out and clipped a protester with their side. None of them were wearing anything reflective either.
From the looks of things the car tried to dodge into the third lane but the protesters moved out faster than they expected. By the time they realized that the crowd was still moving out and taking up more lanes it was too late to perform an evasive maneuver without endangering themselves.
[editline]16th November 2016[/editline]
Doesn't help that the girl he hit wasn't even looking at oncoming traffic and was the farthest out in the crowd.
a crowd that big is impossible to miss, even at night
Not really. When there are lights being shined AT YOU at night, it is really hard to know exactly how big whatever is shining the lights at you actually is. Like cars, or semi trucks. All you can see are the lights. You don't know how wide the object is. And considering I've literally seen people sneak up into my peripherals just as I'm driving past them (they are well out of danger) when at night, I can tell you with absolute confidence that there's no way the driver knew someone was there until it was too late.
I've done the same exact thing with deer. I think plenty of people have. You don't know they're there until they hit you. And this is EXACTLY why all the state DOTs tell you to wear reflective clothing when doing ANYTHING at night like biking or walking.
