Slenderman was great in the beginning, when it wasn't super popular and it seemed like it was only discussed in a few places, but when it got popular all of the mystery that was so exciting about it disappeared. Then games and films started coming out and it's hard to imagine it was interesting in the first place.
I love it when you read your friends posting on facebook about slenderman and if you talk about marblehornets they have no idea what you're on about.
I hate to be the stereotypical hipster but popularity really ran it to the ground.
The problem is that they fail to build good atmosphere, and it becomes more of a jumpscare fest.
Oh wow, I predicted the video. I hadn't watched it when I left that comment.

Well that's because the best thing about Slenderman was the mystery of it. Early Slenderman existed in the backgrounds of old photos or, in the case of MarbleHornets, on old low-quality tapes. Then when someone says, "Hey man you wanna play Slender on my iPhone?" there's no mystery in that. It's easy to suspend your disbelief when you're looking at a photo or a video with no audio, but it's substantially harder to do that when you're looking at a game that you've bought and downloaded.
Was the dude in the end one of the dudes that came over during the paranormal stream during october? When that other whinyass dude was there.
Yeah, he was there during Paranormal. I needed someone taller than me, and he agreed to help out.
The games are, Slender Man itself was pretty good.
I'm guessing this is true. I never read up on all the stories about Slender Man, but I bet they're creepier than the game was. Stories can't lean on jump scares to classify as horror, so they actually have to put some effort into it.
I did not know this game had people that would defend it so strongly. I really hadn't seen anything on it before playing. It's one of those instances where I'm just not letting myself respond to comments because some people obviously aren't listening to what I'm saying in the video, so it's kind of pointless to try and reason further.

I do believe "And then a skeleton popped out!" counts as a jump scare for books?
I do believe "And then a skeleton popped out!" counts as a jump scare for books?
They could actually have a little popout Slender Man when you turn the page.
Boo!
Cheap jump scares is getting stale. And in the outlast thread, here's a list that makes most of shitty horror games being made today.

+Abandoned asylum
+Dead bodies everywhere
+Camera vision
+Some guy chasing you

+Generic horror music
+Darker than Doom 3
+Ample amount of cheap jump scares
So let's check:

Moose, do you ever sit down in front of facepunch and just think "wow, all these people would fuck me"?

Yeah. It's pretty hot.
Man, that mine level could have been awesome, at least the concept of being chased by a person driven rabid by crushing insanity anyway.
Brutalmoose, have you played the first Penumbra ?
Because the mine level is like a copy-paste of the second area of Penumbra Overture, visually. Even the end of Slender Arrival is an exact replica of the end of Overture.
If you haven't played Penumbra you should play Overture and Black Plague. I find them better than Amnesia.

Slender The Eight Pages is also a knockoff of another game called "Hide"
Moosey, what's your favorite of the Humongous Entertainment games?

Record annoying screechy static in one of those record your own birthday cards, Draw scribbly trees on the inside of it and tape it to two pages in a book. Tabletop slender.

The concept was alright, but the execution was horrible. And the environment they made was pretty lame. It was all just more boring than spooky.

I played Penumbra during my Halloween streams last year. I'm pretty sure I got drunk and gave up on it, though. I don't remember it very well.

If I can be honest here, Overture is very disappointing as a horror title. It's scary at first, but once you realise you can easily kill most enemies, it just becomes... trivial. The enemies no longer feel like a threat.
This is why I think Black Plague does a better job.
The worm is scary though. I'll give Overture that.
Moose, what do you think about Iron Maiden?
If you are gonna do that 24 hour stream for real then announce it like 1-2 weeks before you will do it. Gotta be sure that i have nothing on that date so i can watch you play and watch you slowly fall asleep. [SUP][SUP][SUP]A bit creepy i guess[/SUP][/SUP][/SUP]

If/when I do a 24hr stream, it will totally be planned in advance. It won't be something I just suddenly decide to do. There are a lot of things I gotta think through first, though. And I have classss....
