Because it's a hobby. Not a career. You're not being contracted OR being employed. It is not a job.
you can turn it into a career. if you're getting paid to make videos, isn't that being contracted, just without all the legal papers? aren't you being pseudo-employed by youtube if they pay you to make content?
This guy complains about youtube so much it makes me wonder why he still uses the fuckin thing. I don't understand why he thinks Youtube owes him so much.
Perhaps because he's passionate about the platform and doesn't want to it devolve into a cesspit of deceptive advertising and clickbait?
Because it's a hobby. Not a career. You're not being contracted OR being employed. It is not a job.
Self-employment is a thing. If it pays your bills, it's also more than a hobby.
They fufill a desire for income how is that not a job
He may be a professional but it's still not a JOB but anyway we've gotten off track. I personally think this guy just bitches too much. "Awwww look how down trodden we are, youtube just steps all over us?? why do you do that youtube?? fuck you youtube!!! please put us all over frontpage youtube!!!"
He may be a professional but it's still not a JOB but anyway we've gotten off track. I personally think this guy just bitches and moans too much. I find it weird that everyone focuses on video editing when we talk about Youtube as a job also. Like, whether or not video editing is hard, that doesn't make it not work. Otherwise, I guess people who do nothing but edit video for movies and shows don't have a job?
There's no logic in this scenario; It's a matter of opinion and my opinion is: "I feel these two have gone from funny anti-establishment, to being full on 'please support us establishment!' "
The only thing they've ever asked for in these complaint videos is for YouTube to be more transparent about what it's doing with the platform. If you want to take that as trying to beg for views then go ahead, but you're complaining about two of the most genuine and sincere creators on the site.
Says the guy who said this: Sorry but please, stop talking out of your ass.
But, he is literally being holier-then-thou in this video complaining about Youtube treating them without the utmost respect. They are expecting to be thrown onto the front page because they have 2 million subs. He literally thinks he doesn't do anything wrong to be treated the way he's being treated. I understand you guys like him but maybe you should take an outside perspective and try to understand why Youtube is throwing him under the bus; considering he makes a "YOUTUBE SUCKS!!!" video every couple of weeks.
I disagree.
youtube isnt a job. theres a difference between receiving livable wages off of creating entertainment for consumers who will watch ads to see said entertainment and having a job ok trust me its a yuge difference

They're some of the most altruistic and least selfish people on the site. When they complain about this shit it's not just because it affects them, it happens to everyone. If YouTube threw H3H3 on the front page today and every one of their videos was especially made sure to be taken care of and pushed, I doubt they'd even slow down when it comes to advocating for other Youtubers.
youtube is owned by google, and google is a business with the goal of making more money. it shouldn't be a surprise that, in the age of adblockers, they're hiding advertisements (See: Native Advertising) in their "Trending" tab. scummy? yeah. wrong? no. it's their website, you're agreeing to their terms when you use it.
I don't get the whole "they're a business, their goal is to make money" excuse. I mean yeah, no shit, but we're still their customers and as such we have a say on what we think they should do. Personally I couldn't give two shits about the whole "Trending" tab since I never even noticed its existence. If that helps them make Youtube more profitable, all the power to them. But if what they want to do is gut current popular Youtubers to make way for shitty "viral" videos, they can fuck right off. I go to Youtube to see interesting videos, not low-effort cashgrabs and stolen content, if that was what I'm after I would just go to Facebook.

His meme following has gone to his head so much that he really think's he's the top guy. He barely has a following compared to other people but he expects kingly treatment? I just think his fame went to his head extremely fast, and what makes me so mad at this guy; is that he takes the position of the victim while trying to strong-arm Youtube for more attention. Don't you think that making "Youtube sucks!!!" videos is going to lead to Youtube panicking over a couple million of customers getting riled up about their site and giving h3h3 what they want?

Yeah, you can't count on a company to be moral to an even basic degree, that's why you make them be moral or give them so much shit it's in their best interest to just do what people say.
I've seen around 2 videos in the past week pertaining to "Youtube isn't putting our videos on the front page" He actually was complaining that he wasn't being spotlighted by the website. Also are you literally defending Youtube in the event that they crack down on Ethan's channel for speaking up against them?
I do agree that Youtube can be shady though, I'm not disagreeing with that, but Youtube doesn't owe him anything other then the money he makes from his ad revenue. He does not deserve front page treatment, he does not deserve premium sub box treatment simply because he makes these constant Youtube sucks videos. You have to look at it from Youtubes perspective. If you had people who have around 10-20 million consistent viewers AND DON'T constantly shit on the site, wouldn't you treat them with a little more respect? I'm not really looking at this from a personal perspective, only a business one. I don't have an emotional connection with this guy. This guy is not a good business investment, and I guarantee Youtube also sees this.
so does the automatic unsubbing affect this page? I've never noticed being automatically unsubscribed, but I always use this page instead of youtube's front page.
If I knew the first thing about web development I'd be dedicating my time to making a better platform for people to make videos and keep support. Why isn't anybody doing this? [editline]29th November 2016[/editline]
He may be a professional but it's still not a JOB but anyway we've gotten off track.
If I knew the first thing about web development I'd be dedicating my time to making a better platform for people to make videos and keep support. I think even Youtube operates at a loss and that's with Google's infrastructure.
If I knew the first thing about web development I'd be dedicating my time to making a better platform for people to make videos and keep support. Why isn't anybody doing this?
Pretty much nobody wants to try competing with youtube because it's likely to end in failure. Also it's extremely expensive to run a service as big as youtube. Youtube isn't even profitable for google from what I understand. I do think it is possible though. If a company, say, Twitch, created a competitor that was clearly better, and enough large youtubers organized together and moved, it would work. I think the will to move is certainly there. Even Pewdiepie is sick of Youtube's shit, and is promising a video about it tomorrow on twitter.
There are none; so the wise thing would be STOP BITING THE HAND THAT FEEDS. He should be thankful Youtube found a way to generate a source of income for "content creators" aka lazy people who don't want to get actual jobs. And don't even think of saying "but editing videos is hard"
What do you do for a living?
If the auto-unsub thing is real, then its scummy as fuck by YT. On the flip side, I really want to know how much it costs to run all of YT and their servers. I know adblock has been on the rise and "Trending" is probably the response to that.
How does the Trending tab tackle users who have adblock activated? Genuinely curious, as I never get ads on the trending tab videos.

I think even Youtube operates at a loss and that's with Google's infrastructure.
You don't start out as a web behemoth. You can build up to it as you gain traction. That's what Youtube did in the beginning. [editline]29th November 2016[/editline]
How does the Trending tab tackle users who have adblock activated? Genuinely curious, as I never get ads on the trending tab videos.
The idea is that companies pay to be put in trending.
Oh damn, I thought Trending was just an algorithm that put videos with a disproportionately high amount of likes to views on the tab.
What do you do for a living?
Lol, if you're going to split hairs and not differ "making a living" and "having a job" then there really is no point arguing is there? You obviously don't get my point and wouldn't even attempt to get my point because my opinion goes against yours; therefore mine must be destroyed/thrown out.
Look if anything, popular Youtubers ought to be treated as assets/indirect-employees by YT/Google as they add value to the company. They are the reason (not NFL, Sony, Fox, etc) that the site gets its revenue, and if you don't treat your assets/employees then they'll jump ship to a competitor.
Toothpick I don't understand why you're complaining more about the guy than the issue itself. If you don't like the guy in the video, try this other one:
This guy complains about youtube so much it makes me wonder why he still uses the fuckin thing. I don't understand why he thinks Youtube owes him so much.
So lemme explain to you how Youtube makes money. Youtube makes money off advertisements. The advertisers PAY to have their little banner/video show up in places. With attention being given to the product, the advertisers get money off of the more informed people who bought their product. However, how do they get people to buy their stuff? Well they need people too SEE their stuff. That's where content creators come in. The content creators can allow the advertisers to place their stuff on their videos. But because YouTube owns the website and servers that the people upload their videos to, they need to get a cut of that advertisement money. Simply put, more viewers, more money for the Content Creators. Without the content creators, the advertisers won't bother to buy ad space on YouTube since no one will be there to click their advertisments. This is quite literally the same as running a TV Channel, by yourself. So yes, YOUTUBE OWES HIM BIG TIME. If it wasn't for him, YouTube wouldn't make money, and the service would fail.
There are none; so the wise thing would be STOP BITING THE HAND THAT FEEDS. He should be thankful Youtube found a way to generate a source of income for "content creators" aka lazy people who don't want to get actual jobs. And don't even think of saying "but editing videos is hard"
Oh so Content Creators are lazy? Film producers are lazy too eh? Film production is not a real job? Clearly. I mean, it OBVIOUSLY doesn't fit the criteria of being considered a job.
"but editing videos is hard"
Yes, It's easy AF. Here's some examples of really easily edited videos that were in my recommended box https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c0c6QZFaRVQ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Buwei6ZWqU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cgOFQcNZiFk https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uTTPlqK8AnY https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F-LKzUmgH0k https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LVzLIco9R38 CLEARLY SO EASY! TAKES LIKE 5 MINUTES LOL
Because it's a hobby. Not a career. You're not being contracted OR being employed. It is not a job.
Since when can a hobby not be a job? In fact, the people in YouTube have legal documents which they need to sign in order to be able to publish their work there. It's called the Terms and Conditions. And in the end, Youtube is PAYING you to do stuff. That isn't a job then? Tens of people in this thread have constantly argued with what you have to say. All you do is ignore all but one short post and you complain it. You ignore all the other examples people have provided as if they're nothing worth noting. We're dealing with a troll. It is time for us to stop posting about him and put this thread back on its rails.
