It's pretty clear Youtube's been adjusting it's algorithms so content that people with adblockers view is lower on the chain then content that people without adblockers view.
For example, look at the kids video market, parents and kids don't know how to use/what adblock is and Youtube makes a pretty penny off that to the point there's [URL="https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.apps.youtube.kids&hl=en"]a separate Youtube app for kids.[/URL]

Out of curiousity I checked my trending tab, about a good third is dedicated to toy vids, badly made kids cartoons and stolen Peppa Pig videos.
We really need a Youtube Alternative, I know there Vimeo but that's pretty much just Hipster Youtube without the ad revenue. Theres also Vid.me which I don't know much about.
I know the moment a video service introduces a similar ad pay service to Youtube then they'll have to compete. I remember Facebook was doing something along those lines but I don't know what's happened to that (also it's facebook so it's mostly gonna find similar if not worse content).
It seems to me like Google almost resents the 'actual' Youtube community now, that got them where they are. It seems clear that that if anything, they are fucking all for clickbait, all for those dumb prank channels and letting TV shows take over and g-rated fetish porn labelled 'kids entertainment' that fucking everyone hates, and I feel like youtube could one day end up killing itself by just getting rid of the shit that people actually go to youtube for.
If stuff like Jontron just vanishes because they slowly killed them in favor of fuckin' talk show clips, ads, and g-rated fetish porn 'kid entertainment' I would be surprised if a competitor didn't emerge, start offering a video service that isn't dominated by that bullshit and have everyone go use their service instead because it offers actual videos and not just clickbait bullshit. Youtube doesn't seem to really care how fucking bad or clickbaity your content is anymore, they just want whatever will get you to click on a video and see an ad.

So what is it with spoilsports wanting Ethan to shut the fuck up about the platform he posts his content on actively screwing him over when his entire livelihood is based around making videos when Youtube has a veritable monopoly on the video hosting market, meaning their are no suitable alternatives meaning if it gets worse he's essentially fucked?
It reeks of holier-than-thou jealousy and a wish to have the position that Ethan has (what with the claims of greed on their part despite them being among the most altruistic of youtubers, simply for wanting their content to remain a steady source of income, which seems to be hardcore petty projecting) so when they see him suffering, it validates their subconscious desire to see him fail due to their own insecurities.
I'd suggest manning the fuck up and admitting you just wish you could do what he does but you cant because you have no personality or specialized skills for that kind of job field to speak of and you're lashing out due to that.

Heres an example, what about at 5:25 when he starts pointing out the strange "top trendings" tab including a video with 88k views in 13 hours being #1 in the whole united states, which is a load of pure bullshit and is clearly a sponsorship? His videos get 900k views (after the viewership went down from the usual 1.5-2 million in a day, though his videos that suffered from this are going back up as his usual viewership is finding his videos 1+ week later) in under a day, using this logic, shouldnt he by far be #1?

Youtube has an incredible infrastructure, which is what makes it so attractive. To actually be able to compete with them you'd have to implement a lot of frankly cutting edge or esoteric things.
The way they process videos to allow for multiple device types, resolutions and browser codec combinations adds a fairly high computation barrier. Not only do you now need a shitload of storage to actually hold the raw uploads, you need fast compute capabilities to re-encode those videos down into whatever resolution and bitrate you determine would work for the user, and package them up in a suitable container for the browser. Their recommendation algorithm needs work, sure. But it does a pretty decent job and is working BIG DATA to do so. It's more than just a case of "hey this has similar tags!" there's a lot of number crunching in there (the company I work for implemented their own recommendations system and even in our (comparatively) simple system, it's a lot of processing). So that's even more computing needed, and you can't run this live, you'll need to run it on a different server to the website and have it running constantly to ensure everyone has up to date recommendations.
Serving the entire planet with no obvious delays based on location is another problem. You'd need to provision hardware around the world, totally replicate data between that group of servers (okay, this isn't the hard part, but it's still money) and provide redundancy and backup solutions in case something goes wrong so your users don't lose their content.
Along with all the hardware and software problems Youtube has resolved (somewhat) well, you've got the whole soft side of the project. Advertisers, copyright holders and fucking idiots who use your website. You'll be working damn near full time to deal with copyright claims if your site gains any traction, you'll need to strike up deals with advertisers constantly to ensure you have the revenue to actually run the platform and you'll need some form on support unit to actually help users who are struggling to use your system.
tl:dr; Youtube as a platform is fucking massive and does so much that nobody can reasonably compete with them without already being the size of Google. There are massive data storage, compute and soft problems to resolve, and you'd need to resolve them to a degree similar to Youtube to actually pull anyone away.
