The issue I have with people complaining about the Roma is because it sounds eerily similar to complaints lodged from white Americans complaining about *insert minority here*.
The Roma are kicked out of there homes, can't find work, live in shit stain conditions and you're surprised they turn to crime? They've been dealing with this for centuries, how do you think they'll react?
Men here spend their money on gold accessories and nightclubs and other expensive shit like BMW cars while paying other shit for other women to get laid while their women spend their time in local markets selling second hand clothing with babies on their arms while their teenagers are either pregnant or searching for men to go to bed with. Women make babies and money and men spend their money on gold and one-night babes and repeat.
I literally have no problem with them since they're(at least nowadays) less common to be heard of or seen around these parts since the government decided to make them actually pay for a home instead of building sheds next to schools and parks(which has improved their life conditions and prevented problems, yay it worked) but they do have a problem THEY have to fix themselves. At least in this country, I don't know what happens in others.

Nonsense, they're given free homes, electricity, water, education, equipment and they still manage to turn everything to shit and revert to their old cardboard houses. They took the copper cables off and sold them and they often steal sewer covers.
It's even better when they return to their old houses and then rent the one the got from the government.
I think that majority of people here have prejudice not towards gypsies specifically, but towards gypsies that refuse to assimilate and who make trouble to everyone around them.

Maybe they should stop trying to be nomads in a civilised society. Who'd want to employ some guy who just rocked up one day and set up camp on a school playing field on the outskirts of town?

Very few of them in European countries don't have any opportunities, and instead choose to buy fancy new cars and caravans instead of rent, education, or a downpayment on a house.
Gypsies in the UK for example, would easily be able to get housing benefit due to their children, their children would be able to get in to schools, and with a permanent address it would be likely that the parents would be able to get some kind of low-skilled work. But instead, they know it's more profitable to steal to fund their lifestyle whilst we're getting taxed out of our asses to pay for the land and infrastructure that they destroy.
does anyone actually have sources for these claims? i know channel 4 or whoever might make these blanket claims but seriously
There was even a case here where a group of Gypsies illegally built their own compound, complete with housing for all their members. These people are not the downtrodden hard on their luck people that the overly liberal portray them as.
I used to think that they were unfairly discriminated against until I actually began to see the effect that they were having on my own and other people's communities.
Again, this isn't about race. This is about a lifestyle.
roma is an ethnicity. in recent times racism has become a term to define discrimination against ethnic and race groups. i know they aren't a race

Maybe they should stop being forced to be nomads in a civilized society?
My family was very good friends with a lot of gypsies in the Manchester area. Good people I hear, but they really do steal. They do need the freedom to roam, though. Anyone should.
i don't doubt that some roma families actually do cause problems but these claims sound very anecdotal is all. i know quite a few irish gypsies that contribute to society like any other person; i know they aren't technically roma, but the discrimination is very much similar

really, it's no wonder that some people in these families don't feel like they're supposed to modernise and adapt when they're shunned so much because of some stigma

I personally have no problem with gypsies that do contribute to society and adapt to modern lifestyles, anybody who does still choose to discriminate against those is just an asshole.

Freedom to roam =/= Freedom to be a dick to the rest of society
They shouldn't be able to expect to pitch up tent in the middle of a publicly-owned football field.
and being nomadic isn't necessarily a problem as long as it's done legally. it doesn't imply any senses of not adapting to modern society, it's just a different lifestyle from the norm i guess.

that would be worse than what they're getting mad at
these illegal sites actually house people, you know?
The difference is is that some European countries are vastly smaller than the US, so the problem becomes much more prevelant.
No country except Bulgaria or Romania have a Romani population above about 2% as a portion of total population while they are .32% of the US population which appears to be a somewhat small difference.
In other news US is also more tolerant of other religions such as Islam and Judaism
[sp]especially Judaism[/sp]
this is all very interesting. as an american i havent heard much about gypsies, but like someone in this thread said, the discrimination against them is eerily similar to discrimination against minorities in our country
i cant tell if a lot of the claims in this thread are valid but living a nomadic lifestyle is something even americans do, usually going from place to place via rv and settling down for a while, including having a job in the area

Again, US =/= UK.
The US has 38x the land that the UK has. The difference is far more noticeable in UK communities where land is a scarce commodity. Being a nomad in the US is far easier when you have that land. The people in the UK who don't choose to use the legal campsites pretty much either have public parks, farmland, or national trust forests (the latter rarely being used by gypsies anyway).
yeah yeah you got me there
and your tender pasty bodies were not made to withstand the torturous 80F temperature
brb going to get a 32 oz. soda in my rascal

sure but it just shows there disdain for the country they are living in, the north is full of disused industrial sites yet they choose to set up in a fucking park turning the place into an absolute shithole in the middle of summer. if they got burned out i can guarantee not a single tear would be shead by anyone that didnt live in a caravan
i bet if they try setting up on national trust land they get kicked off so fast there fucking heads spin
I personally think that burning these sites is pretty abhorrent, but it is symbolic of the councils' unwillingness/inability to deal with these sites in a timely fashion.
I've lived in both the North and South of England, whilst the gypsy camps I've seen in the South have been quicker to get moved along (3-4 days), ones in places such as Derby often took 3-4 weeks to clear out - by the time they had the kids' summer holidays had ended and the parks left in a horrendous state.
Maybe they should stop being forced to be nomads in a civilized society?
practically, how does this work?
I believe that no western european has any idea what it actually is to live in a country with Roma.
Here in Bulgaria we have whole gypsy-only appartment buildings who REFUSE to pay their heating, water or electricity bills so their neighbours are forced to pay them for them, because if anyone were to try and cut them off, the gypsies start protesting about discrimination.
As said in the video, one of the practices gypsies have for getting a living is to pick metal. In itself thats illegal but we've gone to the point where we had a PSA on NATIONAL TV during PRIME TIME to BEG gypsies to stop stealing insulation from over-ground heating pipes, as it is not actually metal and they cannot sell it for anything.
Another popular practice is to have ~15 children per family and get financial aid for htem. Why? Because they like family. Can they feed and take care of them? No. Do they know that they can't? Yeah, they do. Do they still make more babies? Yeah, they do. Even after the government offered gypsy families free access to condoms, none of them actually used them. I don't even know why.
Just imagine а gypsy wagon being pulled by a horse somewhere in your average clean european capital, cruising around at a speed of 15 km/h. And then the horse starts shitting on the road.
Over my 20 year lifetime I have not had a single good experience with the Roma. This includes back when I was ~6 years old and I had a Roma friend. I remember how he would go around trashcans and look for cigarette stumps, which he would then try to smoke. At the age of 6. He did not go to school because he thought it was boring.
So yes, I do believe the report is bias since it portrays the Roma as the victim and the authorities as the villain, taking their homes away.
Adding to this, I always wondered why my croatian grandfather hated gypsies so much.
I guess he views them as bums who steal and lazy around.

Avatar fits so well.
why does vice choose the most white, pretentious, middle-class reporters for some of their documentaries
Nobody will know the true Balkan suffering with the gypsies, and I've already given up arguing on FP because every single fucking time social justice brigade from the other side of the world comes and spouts shit they know nothing about and it gets me banned in the end.
And always by the same people aswell.
I recall some guy getting banned a couple of times over racism after getting literaly mobbed on by a bunch of said social justice warriors who saw a gypsy person once or twice in their lives and apparently knew more about gypsy people and how they are cool people and could discredit millions of people who have lived next to them their whole lives.

Around here, they are sort of secluded. If you don't fuck with them, they wont fuck with you.
But that's only if you don't walk around their areas for too long with stuff they might like.
Either that, or you get a couple of them begging at entrances in malls.

If anything, they are forced to be civilized.

are you talking about the guy who said he wished Hitler had succeeded against the roma, the other guy who said the same thing, or the guy who who wanted to personally kill them all because one stole his bike

It's not western Europeans, it's Americans. They have no idea what they are like, they just start whining about evil racist Europeans.
Here's the thing: Roma aren't discriminated because they are Roma, they are hated everywhere because of their lifestyle, which they WILLINGLY live by. They WANT to be nomadic, they don't want permanent housing or a permanent job, which leaves the alternatives at very low paying jobs, or theft. It's their choice to live this life and they know very well what it means.
Want to live in a mobile shantytown, making a living stealing copper from war memorials and sending your children to rob at the nearest ATM? Fine, do that in your country and fuck off from mine.
Nobody has anything against the race, it's the lifestyle that people really don't like. Roma who stop following that lifestyle and work aren't hated at all.
fuck gypsies
why does vice choose the most white, pretentious, middle-class reporters for some of their documentaries
Choose? I doubt they have a range of available reporters to pick from to do a doc on roma. They just picked whoever is available because it doesn't matter.
are you talking about the guy who said he wished Hitler had succeeded against the roma, the other guy who said the same thing, or the guy who who wanted to personally kill them all because one stole his bike
I don't recall it going like that.
iirc, one of them read it wrongly and even admitted it, but nobody cared and he got banned anyway because of "this is social justice town boy, have the same opinion as us or BANNED", but I don't remember him going "i'll kill them all" or anything either.. Think he was even from my country, hence why it caught the attention...
rest got banned because some just went "lol burn them all" style and the others who had more mild opinions and just stated facts or whatever, without making any racist comments, got banned aswell because of biased moderation and favouritism + mobbing on from the sjw's

vice is a horribly biased, clickbaiting media corp anyway so
