The fact that they're using Spongebob as a sort of ransom really says something about how they see the cartoon. Either Viacom severely overestimates how much of a cultural impact the show has made or they care so little about it that they're willing to throw it under the bus if they don't get exactly what they want.

Exactly. What do these companies do? Sell Blu-rays that take a minute to load, followed by 3 minutes of FBI warnings, followed by commercials, followed by a menu system that takes another minute to load. For twenty dollars. Versus free and not having to put up with this bullshit waiting.
