I like Newt Scamander, and I like the Dumbledore-Grindelwald story. But I have to say, I'm sceptic about telling Newt Scamander "I can't move against Grindelwald, it has to be you". Like, what the fuck? Isn't he just a friendly animal-lover who wrote a magizoology book? The fuck business does he have taking on Grindelwald?
Maybe dumbledore can but he won't [editline]13th March 2018[/editline]
[t]https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/harrypotter/images/1/19/Young_Albus_Dumbledore.JPG/revision/latest?cb=20081105141908[/t][t]https://qph.fs.quoracdn.net/main-qimg-d7c0cac7d2fcc04879ed4a4f8fa59a6b[/t] In the HP series he does
My mental image of dumbledore has always been richard harris though :frown:
Newt Scamancan, what Dumbledon't
You are not wearing medieval robes and gambesons though.
Literally every student in Hogwarts is required to wear robes and they all have their own individual magic animal that can deliver messages for them, and you find it hard to believe that the headmaster of the world's most renown institution of magic has specific robes that he wears while on the clock at said school? [editline]13th March 2018[/editline]
Where are people getting this "Dumbledore's gay" thing from? I've been listening the the audiobooks for months on end now and I can't recall a single time his sexuality is mention or even alluded to even once. Is this a word of god thing based on a stupid question a fan asked JK Rolling?
No. It's never alluded to even once in the books or any official material other than JK Rowling deciding on one sunny morning to tell everyone that Dumbledore was gay so that she could get brownie points for gay representation without actually representing anyone
no that part is very easy to believe, the main puzzle consisted of why they wore business suits much earlier.
no that part is very easy to believe, the main puzzle consisted of why they wore business suits much earlier.
The first movie got away with it imo because it takes place mostly in america with mostly american characters. the rest of the harry potter series takes place in britain, they're completely different worlds.

Then as far as I'm concerned his sexuality is completely irrelevant.
no that part is very easy to believe, the main puzzle consisted of why they wore business suits much earlier.
I'm only seeing Dumbledore in a business suit on two occasions, this trailer, and then once in the movies they show him again in the suit and that was ostensibly supposed to be 1938, the same image of older Dumbledore posted earlier in the thread. Maybe he just likes wearing what he wants to wear man
Dumbledore went from being an ultra classy business man looking dude in a suit and gradually transformed into a stereotypical ancient wizard appearance as he got older? Lots of other people being in business suits as well compared to the much later harry potter era. How can this be explained? Did the wizards have some kind of a massive falling out with the muggle world and decided to intentionally make a fashion statement or something? Are wizards just trolling themselves by pretending to be double wizards?
Dude's like 120, do you expect him to be fashionable? He's earned the right to wear that moo moo everywhere.
Guys i'm done, I understand now. Wizards can wear absolutely anything they fucking want to regardless of any continuity or muggle logic, my bad Good luck to the wizarding world to migrate into wearing astronaut suits next, no sarcasm.
Couldn't it just be a dressing code? When in class, the student wear the robes but outside, they are all in casual stuff. But you rarely see the teachers not wearing robes. Maybe even the prefects? Because they represent some form of authority. So seeing Dumbledore wearing the more traditional robes isn't that weird if you think it that way. But they could just be hella comfy for the old dude and probably wears them as pjs too. Who knows.

Yeah the robes thing is dress code - if I remember correctly, students generally aren’t allowed to wear anything besides robes in their frist few years. Around the 3rd HP is when you see Harry and co begin wearing casual shit around the campus.

That was also on top of the robe redesign they used for the rest of the films. That movie really defined a lot.

I thought it was cool that we would have another story in the Wizarding World that was separate from the Harry Potter cast but now that they've fully mixed Newt in with Dumbledore and Grindelwald, it just kind of threw away part of the charm I thought Fantastic Beasts held. I didn't really want a Harry Potter 2.0 but with older characters instead, I wanted Harry Potter Sidestories with characters you didn't know in places you haven't seen. But if Rowling wants to tell another grand scale story then I guess that's alright. I just thought it would be cool if we didn't delve into characters we already knew existed and we saw other people's stories instead.
They needed to have a more developed jawrdopping mindfuck element in them. The floating candles and the moving pictures were nice but both of those things still feel surprisingly practical and grounded. There were not enough wide open fields filled with wisps or massive golems, or various rationality defying elements
I don't think the Harry Potter universe is meant to be that high fantasy. You're expecting Lord of The Rings when the majority of the Harry Potter world is non magical and mundane.
The first one surprised me, I wasn't hyped at all but it was an enjoyable experience. A lot of great characters and creatures.

The idea that the wizarding world may have gone down a slightly different fashion route over the past decade seems like an impossibility too you. I mean 90% of the characters in the original Harry Potter films are wearing traditional, current day clothing.

Isn't this a time when he is struggling with authority and being kinda rebellious? I'm sure as a young man he would dress as such, but much later as an old headmaster it makes sense he would prefer to wear robes like that of wizard leadership. Or something, I don't know.
