I think this can be an enjoyable movie because it doesn't have the expectation level. This also seems to depart from the traditional themes the movies have about family and legacy.
This also seems to depart from the traditional themes the movies have about family and legacy.
Family is there, Jyn is being sent after her Father.
Sure I guess, but typicalaly all of the episodic movies are just one long soap opera, this is just a stand alone story and afaik that plot element is just a motivation device for the protag
It is Jyn Erso, not Jan Ursa.
Oh okay. The way it was pronounced in the first trailer sounded like Jan Ursa to me.
Really, a female lead again? I'm not all that interested in the plot but it looks pretty.
oh no girls are leading 2 out of 8 star wars films sjws are at it again :(((
where are the bothans?
where are the bothans?
Wrong Death Star.
Really, a female lead again? I'm not all that interested in the plot but it looks pretty.
compared to the hundreds of other movies with male leads? what even
They got canned because a guy who can walk into a cave on a desert planet and turn his force powers on and off on a whim doesn't make good cinema. Kyle Katarn was great in the video games but I doubt he'd do well on the big screen. I don't understand this new-founded cynicism for the new Star Wars movies. TFA was a pretty good movie, but it's a star wars movie. Star Wars has never really been that 99/100 scored drama action movie like people think it is.
I haven't watched TFA yet but didn't the heroine whatshername with no force or lightsaber training overwhelm the trained Sith that is Kylo Ren? A guy walking into a cave on a desert planet to get his powers back would work a helluva lot better, just say the cave is deeply touched by the force or some other cheesy shit.
Snip-O
That really just sucks. I liked Kyle, He was great in outcast and academy.
"I'm no Jedi; I'm just a guy with a lightsaber and a few questions." RIP
Within reason I'd say. Rogue One is a good example. Whereas a Han Solo spinoff, do we really need that?
gonna argue we don't even need this how the plans were stolen doesn't matter just like how anakin got in the suit doesn't matter go make stories that either REALLY don't matter (i.e. bounty hunter story) or some original save the galaxy story, don't tie it in with existing things

[sp]Rey didn't have lightsaber training, but she grew up fending for herself and could at least fight with a staff. On Kylo Ren's side of things, it's made clear throughout the film that Chewie's bowcaster is overkill even for armoured Stormtroopers. Ren survives a shot from it in robes because of force trickery, and afterwards he's bleeding and feels ~damaged~ from killing his father. Basically, Rey knew how to fight and Ren was severely hurt both physically and mentally. She could hold him off until they were separated because she had a couple of huge advantages at that point.[/sp]
That really just sucks. I liked Kyle, He was great in outcast and academy.
They could still bring Kyle back in the games or TV. There is nothing in his pre-Game history that would need to be drastically changed.
go make stories that either REALLY don't matter (i.e. bounty hunter story) or some original save the galaxy story, don't tie it in with existing things
I'd love a Star Wars movie all about a bounty hunter totally disconnected from any of the trilogies. Doesn't even have to be Boba Fett, that shit would be sick.
This is probably going to be a fun watch and I'm sure I'll enjoy the movie and all, but I can't help but think at how Kyle Katarn, one of my all time favorite characters, is non canon now because of this
They better make "Skippy the Jedi Droid" movie in the near future.
I don't give a fuck I just want to watch IP Man fighting stormtroopers
They better make "Skippy the Jedi Droid" movie in the near future.
That wasn't canon, not even in the EU [editline]14th October 2016[/editline]
This is probably going to be a fun watch and I'm sure I'll enjoy the movie and all, but I can't help but think at how Kyle Katarn, one of my all time favorite characters, is non canon now because of this
He was made non-canon before this movie was an Idea
Really, a female lead again? I'm not all that interested in the plot but it looks pretty.
i tried to counter this post without mentioning your shirtless big titted anime girl avatar but i think it says it all :dogwow:
I'm not a fan of the main character. From the trailers it seems like she's meant to be written as the suave, cool outsider who has to be brought into working with the team (you know, the Han Solo type) but there's always a line that's incredibly lame. Granted none of the lines in this trailer are as bad as "This is a rebellion isn't it? I rebel." (Dohoho, I'm sure the 45 year old who wrote that line had a good chuckle, but it's not cool.) Also her name is Jan Ursa, which reminds me of After Earth, which is the most heinous crime a person could commit.
You're looking at this movie like it's the Citizen Kane of space operas. Star Wars movies have never been perfectly well written movies. They're just fun story-driven movies that have awesome action&adventure elements and are family friendly. You can't go into a Star Wars movie and expect it to be some sort of cinematic masterpiece; the days of Lucas revolutionizing cinema is over. I mean for gods sake have you seen Jedi? That has some of the most schlocky writing out there and the most advanced military in the universe was defeated by a bunch of carebears who can throw rocks. [editline]14th October 2016[/editline]
Really, a female lead again? I'm not all that interested in the plot but it looks pretty.
Keep women out of my god damn sci-fi movies. I don't wanna see a woman on screen unless shes got a big set of cans and adds nothing to the plot.

The MC looks like she's the least charismatic of the bunch, I don't know if it's because of the way the trailers are cut but so far she seems to have a very limited range of expression.
also [sp]it's kinda why his lightsaber looks like shit[/sp]
[sp]specifically, the crystal he used is cracked, it's implied he made the saber himself and is inexperienced enough to do that competently, and despite the cracked crystal he essentially overclocked the bugger because he wanted more power, with little regard as to how well the crystal could handle it in the first place. So yeah it represents him pretty well[/sp]
