What's happening? All I can see is planes blowing things up and angry people yelling at eachother.
So I signed into my japan account and worked out the conversion for fuel to usd For 60 fuel which enough for anywhere to 70-80 sorties depending on your luck since you can get bonus ones at the end of a mission, this is 50 bucks. The campaign pass is 20 bucks and you get 20 fuel on completion which you pretty much have to buy. Basically if these prices transfer directly to the western market I can't recommend this game. There should really be a play pass which might be available in western markets since Asians really go for the f2p stuff.
Wish this was for the PS4 too. I don't have my PS3 any more.

They can't really do that without, you know, seeing if people are willing to pay money for it.
Sold more than 6 Fuck it, not gonna bother with the same old song and dance again
I hope the music for Infinity is as good as 5's soundtrack.
Ace Combat 5 for best video game soundtrack. Hard to believe this came almost 10 years ago holy shit
Never played ace combat. Trailer reminds me of that old dream cast game, air force delta I think it was? Anyone else played that?

A mediocre game filled with ridiculous QTEs and a mar on the Ace Combat franchise. and B. A flop for Bamco. Assault Horizon sold only 30k more copies than 6, and it was released on two consoles, instead of just one. If you compare either single console release to 6 then it falls short by almost .30m copies on the PS3 release and almost .50m copies if you're looking at the 360 release. Assault Horizon was also marketed way harder than 6. In addition, the data for development cost isn't released, but I'm betting that Assault Horizon cost a bit more than 6 to make.

It'd be a flop if it didn't make money, not cause a bunch of die-hard fanboys got mad that a spin-off "ruined the franchise"

One thing I do like about AH is the music. It wasn't as good as some of the other titles, but it was an interesting change.

When you release the game on two consoles (+PC) you're opening it up to a whole different section of the market. Would you rather I just compare to the 360 release? Because then the argument for Assault Horizon being a success works even less. Secondly, that's my point, it didn't make money, at least, not as much as earlier AC titles. Also, I'm ignoring PC sales for two reasons. 1: there's no data available, and 2: we can assume PC sales were negligible, as the release was so late that anyone who wanted it probably owned it already on console, as well as the fact that, well, frankly, I haven't heard of that many people buying it on PC. I'd estimate they might have moved 10-30 thousand copies on PC. 6 sold practically the same amount of copies as AH (within ~100k including PC sales, I'm guessing). But AH incurred increased costs in development due to not only the licensing costs for three consoles instead of one, but also for the development costs associated with developing for three separate systems. That's completely ignoring the marketing budget too (they did buy an ENTIRE AIRPLANE, after all). You keep saying that it wasn't a flop, but you provide no argument other than saying "it sold more than 6", and attacking the people who probably went out and bought the game anyway (I know I did).
Never played ace combat. Trailer reminds me of that old dream cast game, air force delta I think it was? Anyone else played that?
I know what your talking about, it was called Deadly Skies in Europe. I have the third one in my PS2 collection, yet I've not touched it yet. But it looks like a somehow, even more batshit insane version of Ace Combat, and that's saying something. I personally believe that Ace Combat: Assault Horizon was saved by (most of) the music and it really could had went without plot armored enemy's and Dog Fight Mode. I could rant on about the last mission in Assault Horizon, but someone beat me to the punch. I'll just link it just in case I'm spoiling anything. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WFr5SxHxACg Back to Infinity, like i've said before about this back in the beta, as much as the game feels like Ace Combat, plays exactly like 6, and now has the god damn ADFX-02 Morgan, looking glorious and complete with "Oh god, what is happening? Why has my face melted?", giant fricking laser. The free to play nature doesn't work with me and many others, because the last time i checked. The coin operated arcade machines died outside of Asia because of the consoles being a much cheaper alternative. It feels extremely silly in my head that the "coin operated" idea has come back like this and i really disagree with it, there are much better ways to be doing free to play, like World of Tanks/Warthunder and even something like Killer Instinct on the Xbox One. I wouldnt mind if the "free to play" idea was basically a fancier term for "Demo". Now, I can understand it being "okay" in Japan and Korea because that's the norm for them, but outside i find the concept of "coin operated" gameplay, on a console of all things, to be something i really disagree with. So chances are i won't support Infinity or Bamco's current free to play hard on, even though the chance to be a bastard in the aircraft that could have started the entire world over from scratch, is very tempting. Luckily, we are in the time where someone can go "Fuck waiting for the next game, I'm going to make it myself" and actually make the game they want to make without being in the mercy of publishers, and there is a back up plan for a game like Ace Combat which is coming out soonish. [thumb]http://media.moddb.com/images/games/1/17/16019/Cover_small.png[/thumb] Imagine Ace Combat, now add modding support, i'll need to make a thread about Vector Thrust when it comes out. Hopefully in June, i'd imagine, and since it will be on Steam. There should be workshop support.
I know what your talking about, it was called Deadly Skies in Europe...
Delta Skies is a very similar but very wacky game when compared to Ace Combat (In that it has its own strange real, which is very, very strange), I still highly recommend it though. Lots of aircraft and has good re-playability thanks to a branched story line system. I'm normally one of those major Ace Combat fanboys having played each single one since Air Combat on the PSX, and as glad as I can be seeing another iteration of the series after AC:AH's outing and like everyone else has already said, it was bland for myself too. In Infinity the re-use of strange real elements in reality seems to be the main reason of it being F2P, as they just seem to only reuse elements from past Ace Combat storylines, then incorporate them all in some Frankenstein story to appeal to Ace Combat players looking to relive past glory events (Stongehenge is the best example, being the iconic superweapon from AC4) rather than try something new. I don't have a PS3 myself at the moment to try this, but how's the net code for Infinity handle MP? AC6 and AC:AH both had pretty bad peer netcodes that left online dog fights somewhat of a lag game at times.
The net code is pretty solid as far as I can tell, only been D/C'ed from one game out of like 15 so far and I haven't seen any hover ally airplanes or them jerking around. Literally the only downsides for this game is the fuel system. Its also fairly small and built 70% on recycled assists, even Dubai is the same from AH modified and turned night instead of day. Makes me think this is a small side project while they work on something bigger like Zero was. I hope they keep the tech tree and expand it further in any future installments, the best thing about the game is you can take your favorite airplane and make it feel like its yours. You feel like you're playing who you are instead of another character.
