You all know they do this shit so people get upset and watch and so they get ad revenue right? I really doubt most of the people involved in this actually give a shit about "manspreading" but they know it'll cause outrage and bait people in via anger views.
And before anyone says "I use adblock!", That's pretty much the reason why they pull this shit, A quick check of the Youtube video had it at over 600,000 views, even if only a third of those didn't use an ad blocker that's still 200,000 views and probably a decent bit of ad revenue. A regular, non controversial video would hardly gain views like that, and less views = less revenue, maybe even none if all the viewers used adblock.
In short Ya'll getting baited big time. Seriously, if you don't sites like Buzzfeed then don't watch their shit or even post about how dumb it is, that's what they want, attention.
Nah, while they do profit off of the outrage, I'm pretty sure that they actually believe in what they're saying.
If you want to believe it or not, of the billions of people living on this planet, some are really that deluded.
Nah, while they do profit off the outrage, I'm pretty sure that they actually believe in what they're saying.
I have to disagree, maybe it's an American thing but it came of as very joking and insulting to me.
Manspreading can be worth calling out but wtf buzzfeed, many clips you showed don't even count, and the way a ton of you sat is basically how nobody ever sits.
The problem isn't the spreading of the legs, the problem is when some asshole is spreading into the two adjacent seats because his precious manhood needs like 90 degrees of clearance for him to be comfortable. A lot of women find it more comfortable to spread their legs too btw, but really the woman equivalent is occupying too much space with her purse n shit.
Btw I can put my legs together and even cross them and my balls are just fine? Maybe you guys are wearing shitty undergarments/pants that don't fit. Just be mindful of others' spaces when trying to make some for your own.
it has far more to do with hip structure, men's legs naturally sit at a more outward angle.
shame on you for having a penis!!!!!!
we should shove women with big breasts off the train because they're taking up too much sapce !!
and no, there's no "manspreading" worth "Calling out" because "manspreading" is a made up issue. the word you'd be looking for is "Asshole". and assholes will always be assholes

Wouldn't that just be the icing on the cake for 2016.
being tall, i usually spread out my legs to keep my balance unless someone sits next to me.

Exact same thing with "mansplaining", but you will still find people rabidly defending the use of both.

Still gives them views, which go into analytics, which pushes the videos into people's recommended feeds.
Youtube views actually don't mean a lot now, "Watch time" (what really affects a video's rating/ad revenue) is how long someone watches a video and if/when they stop watching. Theres also speculated to be a unshown rating for how many people start watching Youtube on a video, and how long someone stays on the site after watching a video, and what video people leave Youtube on. You can blame Reply girls for such a weird system, it's also why lets play series are so popular (more time on site = higher recommended ranking).
It should be technically possible make a video's recommended raking tank if enough people go to Youtube to watch a video, watch the first few seconds, and then stop watching and leave Youtube.
tldr: I'm 90% sure Buzzfeed make this video to bait people into watching the whole video out of anger so other similar anger inducing videos come up in people's feeds and and the anger views continue. more views & watch time = more attention and ad monies.
buzzfeed is popular among a very large amount of people, those who go "lol buzzfeed sucks" are in the minority
It's his claim of "modern feminism." A "source" that uses clickbait and outrage to generate hits and $$$ isn't really adequate to tar a movement. One term I've heard used to describe the sort of thing is "pop feminism" that includes things like buzzfeed taylor swift and beyonce and whatnot.

Yeah but people attribute names to specific behaviors of assholes.
it has far more to do with hip structure, men's legs naturally sit at a more outward angle.
Somewhat, but not to the extent to where you intrude upon others' spaces except for very tight situations. There are medical conditions such as posture problems that can make spreading like that somewhat required, and in that case, doctors can alleviate some of them. Problems like that can cause long term complications left unchecked IIRC.
tbh just saying but if you actually believe manspreading exists at all you're gullible and buying into some unbelievably asinine non-issues
if it exists at all, it's not something that's going to stop because of it being a blatant genetic-social construct. Bitching about it is idiotic. How about you maybe just not care and stop being an absolute child, and worry about actual issues... like parents screaming at their children in public maybe? or people litering? like holy hell there are so many things you could use more energy on you'd have to be fucking delusional to pick "Manspreading as an issue"
There are homeless veterans out there, there are women who are rape victims and silenced by fear, there are children who are being beaten and abused. If you have the ability to speak out to millions over a thing you feel is a true problem, how about you pick something that will benefit the whole of society instead of focusing on your stupid, shallow, and selfish reasons?
tbh it seems like a good to get mad over them complaining about this because they could be using their audience to target actual problems. instead they're trying to fuel this really aggressive SJW movement.
I think these women would understand why men have their legs open if they were to suddenly grow a penis, and feel everything about having one.
They don't give a shit about problems, actual or else. Clickbait media has learned over the past years that SJW garbage works for generating ad revenue and popularity (which generates more ad revenue). You have two groups of regular internet-users who hate each other -> you get guaranteed views on the most insanely stupid shit you can push with no effort what so ever. First group will actually be baited into viewing this to get their biases reinforced, second group will either get outraged or start laughing at it sharing the stupidity among themselves.
Saying mansplaining unironically is as cringey as saying cuck ironically. It's cacophonous screeching of people who don't really look at the real world.

You're not getting it. They have explained what they understand by "manspreading". They think it's about "taking as much space as possible". Discomfort to male privates is just an unsubstantiated excuse to them. That's why they are making all these ridiculous poses.
There was a part in the video where one met a woman manspreading and went *gasp* Women can take up space too?
I have to agree with thelurker1234 though, since manspreading isn't real, why defend it like so? I can sit comfortably with my legs tight, crossed, whatever. Your balls are designed to either go on top or under when you do this.
Thats more like pretending to be a really lazy person rather than manspreading
What are you talking about, that's exactly how men sit on public transportation everywhere.
It's just that you don't see it through all the privilege.
As long as we're talking about stupid terms buzzfeed likes using there's also cultural appropriation and objectification. Not aren't as stupid as manspreading or mansplaining but in some sense they're worse because they're in the literature and more people think they're worth advocating all sorts of weird shit to prevent. I think people just hear those terms and dont think so just go "sure whatever", when really complaints about cultural appropriation just come off as xenophobic or racist, and being against objectification usually just means being sex negative.
I dont think anyone here is going to start arguing in favor of the manspreading term so we could get some more general discussion of terms going.
When I saw this video get posted on facebook I genuinely thought it was just clickhole

Whatever happened to just saying "excuse me"?

I'm not really in the side that thinks it's a huge societal problem, I was more just defending it as a term to describe a behavior and saying that spreading so much to intrude upon others is more often than not totally unnecessary, and also that many women find spreading more comfortable too but don't do it as much and instead do other asshole behaviors. Though even I wouldn't use the term if talking to someone in public about it lol. I'd probably just say "Hey, could you make some space please?" since saying man-spreading off the bat is very accusatory and hence undiplomatic for what was probably just an unconscious behavior or heck, flat-out harmless until somebody needed that space.

I'm too dumb to know the analytical shit about objectification. But as for the other term you gave, cultural appropriation is something I find to be real, but real examples where I can point and say "that's bad" are actually very rare. Borrowing from another culture isn't bad, it's actually fukken fantastic, it has more to do with how the exchange occurred and how the parties are affected.
Especially nowadays we don't have distinct borders between us, we interact and borrow so much it's fantastic. Yoga for example was brought to the west by people who learned it in India, and have evolved it and fit it really well within our culture. And even personally, I've learned and even greatly shifted my worldview and attitude from learning about eastern culture and philosophy. But an example that's considered bad is when non-native Americans wear their religious and cultural symbols in a very trendy and kind of facetious way. One example that is very similar and might touch closer to Americans is the idea of stolen valor, which is when you pretend to have military accolades that you haven't actually earned. Just go around claiming to be a purple heart, and if people find out you will be absolutely fucking hated, and that just has to do with our values systems on why that irks us so. We even made it illegal outright, and then a supreme court decision said that it was against free speech it so it had to be revised to only be illegal when you use it to get a tangible gain.
Since this is the video forum have a video of a crossdressing drunkard who does a pretty good job imo.

You might have posture issues too. But most men just spread somewhat naturally so it's not that you aren't clamping the legs together, it's just not intruding upon the space of others.

Pretty sure I don't, since I got pretty thoroughly inspected when i hurt my lower back something fierce awhile ago and doctor cleared me.
Or maybe squishing my wingwang and accessories just bothers me incredibly and thus is therefor uncomfortable.

If you have a big compulsion to actually do like a 90 degree parting of your legs you might want to check again if convenient, doctors can't keep a vigilant eye open for every possible problem. What angle would you say you spread at? I don't think it's that much of a jump to say that you can be mindful of other peoples space while keeping comfortable yourself except on very tight busses but in that case, everybody is miserable already.
The amusing thing I've heard, is that in cultures that expect a complete lack of personal space on public transit, this doesn't happen much at all. I haven't seen anything really credible to confirm it tho
Maybe not everybody is able to be comfortable sitting in a pose like that? I don't think it takes a genius to figure that one out
But to say that no one can couldn't be much further from the truth.
The chick w/the black fedora looks like the wicked witch of the West
I don't like it when my balls consistently rub against my legs. Sorry feminists. Especially if I just got done doing cardio; all that sweat when it drys would be like feel glass. Against a part of my body which is tender.
