I think everybody should be allowed to sit how they like as long as they're confined in their own seats
Yes?
Im starting to see why trump won. Not that I want him to win, but these people certainly helped.
Trump won because we're fed up with this shit from producers such as buzzfeed.
Whatever happened to just saying "excuse me"?
its easier to pretend like other human beings pieces of shit and telling males to get the fuck out of your vaginas way
I have to agree with thelurker1234 though, since manspreading isn't real, why defend it like so? I can sit comfortably with my legs tight, crossed, whatever. Your balls are designed to go in when you do this.
Because it's not real as a problem, as a concept. There is no "concept" of manspreading, there is no "problem" with it. Men sit like that, not out of behavior or because they were "taught to be assertive," but because they just do. "Manspreading" when used like that is saying "men sit like this because such and such." When we say it doesn't exist, we're saying everything from "because" on is complete bullshit.
You're not getting it. They have explained what they understand by "manspreading". They think it's about "taking as much space as possible". Discomfort to male privates is just an unsubstantiated excuse to them. That's why they are making all these ridiculous poses.
That's something whiny little babies do when their parents tell them to do something, how the heck are these people functioning when they have such rage against a minor petty thing that they revert back to child-like behavior? Seriously, "I'm going to give you a shit-eating grin while I do a ridiculous version of what you told me to do" is basically half a step away from "I'm going to stamp my feet, get red in the face, and start crying uncontrollably."
Whatever happened to just saying "excuse me"?
What saying something to a man? What if he stands up and rapes them on the spot as everybody cheers him on because rape culture? [sp]I'm being silly, but really, people who go on about this... manspreading, mansplaining, whatever - never even consider that you can maybe point it out to the person that they're being inconsiderate? politely? maybe the person is just deep in their thoughts, doesn't notice that they take up extra space? no, must be a fucking asshole asserting their dominance[/sp]
If someone politely asked me to move over a bit because I was taking a bit to much space I would HAPPILY do that. Funnily enough just like 90% of other humans would too. (I may not have a comfortable journey but men know sitting with legs closed isn't as uncomfortable as having to stand for a journey, we sympathise.) What kind of bizzaro world do they imagine they live in
i manspread all the time but i did not even know it was a thing :v:
:what: I am not really sure what else to say honestly...
It's his claim of "modern feminism." A "source" that uses clickbait and outrage to generate hits and $$$ isn't really adequate to tar a movement. One term I've heard used to describe the sort of thing is "pop feminism" that includes things like buzzfeed taylor swift and beyonce and whatnot.
i feel like brushing it under the rug as pop feminism is potentially problematic. there should be more outrage from feminists about this as it is clearly doing damage to the public's perception of feminism on one hand and dangerously misleading the public on another hand. i would say that buzzfeed's form of feminism is enough to tar the entire movement of feminism because that is exactly what is happening, whether rational or not. like it or not, pop feminism is the face of feminism. the public doesn't give a fuck about the intricacies or the theory or any of that stuff that you know about which makes it a legitimate movement to you, and many of them will never want to know when they see what pop feminism has become. is it perhaps irrational to judge an entire movement based off of one, albeit most visible, sector? yes, it is, but humans are irrational creatures and you have to work within that bound. in my view, this shit should have been stomped out back when it was just a small part of some idiots' tumblr blogs. now that it has hit the mainstream, it is probably too late. now that it has hit the mainstream, the good ol' tactic of "its only tumblr/twitter/a few idiots, it doesn't matter" isn't going to work anymore. pop feminism is going to gain more ground in the wider public than legitimate third wave feminism ever could have hoped to, which in turn is going to turn an even larger amount of the public against feminism as a whole.
I do not agree with this video at all, all kinds of people have this arrogant and juvenile behaviour. But the comments saying that men "have to" sit like this because of their dingus and maracas are so full of shit, if you are unable to sit with your legs closed you shouldgo see a doctor immediately, you might have testicular cancer. If there are alot of vacant seats on the bus or w/e, sit however you want, if there is a lack of seats and other people want to sit down, just sit properly within your seat like a normal fucking individual.

It is an actual problem due to how humans form opinions, and more should be done against it, it's mostly just ignored from what I've seen. From what I know of history, many movements do have issues like this and what generally happens is in the long run, many terrible ideas within movements, despite achieving great popularity, still tend to be killed off over time as they're too faulty to last, leaving the rest. Happened with the other two waves as well. Buzzfeed isn't even the worst tbh, there is some downright racism and sexism at times that people will ignore. If I had to guess, I would think that there probably will be kickback (well, there is already, but still increasing) against a lot of these things, but the branch of thought itself will not die due to its very strong and ingrained backing in history and the modern social sciences.
But I enjoy showing my gigantic bulge in the open wind
Whatever happened to just saying "excuse me"?
People who were sheltered their whole lives go outside for the first time.

Manspreading is so easy to explain if you just look at a female skeleton compared to a male skeleton; their hips are further apart, causing their legs to point inward when sitting. Men have narrow hips, causing their legs to be much more forward-facing, where a sprawled seating position is much more comfortable. There simply isn't enough room for a man's thighs and legs if he sits with them perfectly together, our bodies just aren't shaped that way. A woman has a natural curve that makes sitting with their legs together naturally comfortable. [t]http://i.imgur.com/njPX3wB.jpg[/t]
I have a severely misaligned hip. If I don't "manspread", I get a burning sensation in the joint, that if I don't release the tension, can cause a crippling muscle spasm that means I can no longer walk for several hours. But sure, Buzzfeed, sure, whatever the fuck you say.
"manspreading" is the epitome of first world problems/making up problems because our lives have become too comfortable please giant meteor strike our planet and send us back to oonga boonga age
If we're lucky by the time we hit the information age again we hopefully would've selectively bred these people genes out of existence.

Like, I don't generally use public transport, but when I do I consider myself fully in my moral right to expect people to tell me if I'm unintentionally causing them some inconvenience by not noticing that I'm possibly taking more space than is required. Most people are not assholes and will be happy to make space, what kind of shut-in does one have to be to expect the worst from people in response to a simple and polite request?

Unless one were to reach down and arrange them in such a fashion that it wouldn't be, but I think that'd be even less socially acceptable. As for the legs themselves, in trying to keep them straight and closed when sat down, it takes physical effort - they don't rest in such a position because of male bone structure more than anything else. To try and criticise the act of sitting in such a way that occurs naturally and unconsciously because it's the most comfortable way to do so is sexism plain and simple. And guess what, most people will accommodate for people sitting next to or moving past them.
