No, it just gives them back problems, which is just another reason to switch to iPads.
As much as you guys might hate Apple, their products do 'revolutionise' (as much as I hate that word) the market. Before the iPad, you'd be quite hard-pressed to find a decent tablet, now they're fucking everywhere. By doing this Apple are helping lead the industry in to the future and quite soon we may never have to purchase physical copies of textbooks ever again.
this is true, but if you haven't noticed, they sue any competition into the ground so you can ONLY find ipads and ipods on tv. I've seen buttfuckloads of ads for apple bullshit but very little for products from other companies in the same class. (tablets, phones, music players)

Yeah, that's what really pisses me off. Aside from the legal side of things Apple are a good company who look after their customers, but when it comes to competition they're just like spoilt kids.
The iBook author software looks amazing.
id rather spend a little extra on a laptop ( not a mac) that could do much more than a ipad.
My school is one of the few who made a deal with apple. Now everyone single student has an iPad and all the teachers except for the business department who got new dells instead got macs. It's great cause they tried to block the appstore but kids found a way around it so now the only point of the iPad is to play games really.
This would probably be useful for them to use though.

The laptops at our school had the same problem, they tried to block exes, but then someone figured out and started putting games on them.

Its not just iPads
If apple cared so much about people they would make it a service that is based on subscriptions or type of purchase at a fair price that is supported on many platforms.
Pretty much the concept that has been talked about and developed for years but hasn't become popular.
Except now they will claim it as all their own and sue whoever tries to prove them wrong.
Blech. I hate this idea. My college offers e-books, which are cheaper than the paper text books, but there's a problem. The stupid things expire at the end of the semester.
This is a good idea.
The only thing I don't like is that they want to make all this Apple-only.

Shame that you can only use it for publishing on the iPad.

Well I mean they are supposed to be like a more convenient textbook so to say but really everyone just uses them to play games and facetime.
Alot of the textbooks we have in my school are downloadable in PDF format on the teacher's site, so you could just put that on some 100 dollar tablet.

Welcome to Hipster-101.
In seriousness, I do like Macbooks, however their price makes them a non-option, I don't why schools continue to buy overpriced computers when they could buy the same for $400-500.

Nobody in that picture even looks like a hipster.
owning an i device =/= being a hipster
To be honest, I think this is a good idea. I believe Apple would provide some sort of bulk discount too. Honestly I think it would be more fun than a textbook and would definitely get me more engaged, even though I am not a fan of Apple products.

When I saw all the macbooks open oh god
You could watch RedTube in class. "But Teacher it's Biology"
