You have to experience the shittiness and the cheeki breekis yourself to really let it sink in.
I'm not going to bitch about how horrible it is to recommend anybody complete, I'll just simply say that a mod from 2009 that wasn't that great even back then isn't a wise choice for somebody planning to play their first playthrough modded in almost 2015.
I'm actually fairly certain there's one of those Hitler videos about Complete which sums up most veteran S.T.A.L.K.E.R.s views on the mod.
Well 2010 was when I last played SoC and I quite enjoyed how it changed the game. Just going off my experience then.
IMO the best mod I've played for CoP at least is Redux. It's good for its simplicity, it makes weapons feel more powerfu and ammo, money etc. is more rare and enemies more threatening. Other than that it doesn't really change anything about the game so the "vanilla" experience is still preserved. There are some features coming in 2.0 that I can't wait to see though, but combining Gunslinger with it would be my wet dream.

Really?
This is not Skyrim - you don't need a shitload of mods only to start enjoying the damn game.
You just ruin the experience for yourself by watching playthroughs.
As someone who played through vanilla first, I'd say get a mod if you don't wanna play through it vanilla
It really isn't worth the time or elitism to trudge through something that's so buggy and not particularly good looking
You bought it with your own money, do whatever you want with it

A lot of people get turned off from the series because they're told to play vanilla first but honestly vanilla feels like it was coded by 5 slavs in a shack and I think that's a real damn shame
As long as you can preserve the basic atmosphere you're good. The setting and story isn't going anywhere

fixed
Reminds me a lot of the suicide-inducing enemy from Cry of Fear, though I doubt it was the first example

People are rating this funny but this is pretty true honestly.
My first playthrough vanilla started out with me not really interested (especially after having seen mods on YT) but once you get to a certain point it completely changes and you want to keep playing. Then you ease into the mechanics, figure out what's effective against what and it becomes an extremely enjoyable experience (basically boils down to bulletsponge military aren't really bullet sponges if you use AP ammo)
I've seen plenty of people aside from myself too completely shift tones about the vanilla gamwe once they get to that "part" in the game when it really kicks off and it's more worth it then starting the game with mods and having "XmastermoddRX" experience of the game and not knowing what the real game is like.
Hell, the bugs aren't even that bad aside from one or two, most of them are just damn funny. (there are a few big ones but you can just play with ZRP and it fixes them and doesn't change vanilla gameplay unlike complete)

Yeah the entire Stalker series is brilliant. I wish they'd retroactively updated SoC and CS to CoP standards though.

That's like the best part. It feels like a piece of shitty software that someone brought back from the Zone.
Once call of chernobyl comes out it'll be all the maps in CoP, so then somebody can use that as a base to port/expand upon ShoC (I'm hoping anyway)
Then we could get gunslinger with Shoc.

It's all cool if you manage to get through it, but for some people it's less charming and more poorly coded
It's very typically elitist, the whole "play video games my way or don't play at all"

Well, I was referring to the people who drop the series because they don't want to finish vanilla
What? How is it elitist to want someone to play a game vanilla once before mods so they know what they are getting into?
I played skyrim vanilla and there were so many things that annoyed me, but I still played really far in that game without mods regardless, it wouldn't make sense to get overhauls for a game I never played before.
People can play games how they want to play them. Someone mods SHoC or CoP or even CS before properly playing vanilla? They may not fully comprehend just what alterations they may've done to the overall experience, but it's their choice. I only played Skyrim for a few hours before filling it with various aesthetic mods (mainly because I didn't know what sort of decent gameplay mods there were that I should pick from), and it won't murder someone's dog to pick up STALKER with a modded playthrough to get into it.

it will displease the monolith
you don't want to displease the monolith

It'd be alright if it was "you can try vanilla but if that isn't your thing then go ahead" instead of "VANILLA BEFORE SPRINKLES" ad nauseam

If CoC manages to include the SP campaigns from all 3 games I'll have my lower ribs removed to suck my own dick.
With the luck I always have with controllers either glitching entirely or appearing at the worst time I gotta say I will never download this mode.
