Uhm, but in all of 2013 only 33 cops died to gunfire. The majority of the 33 were to handgun fire. Meaning at the most 16 deaths were to rifle fire. Meaning as a police officer in the United States (one of 794,300) you have a 0.00002% chance of dieing to rifle fire per year of policing. 33: http://articles.latimes.com/2013/dec/30/nation/la-na-nn-police-deaths-20131230 #ofpolice: http://www.bls.gov/ooh/protective-service/police-and-detectives.htm
You can pull up all of the statistics you want but like what someone said earlier anything can (quickly) escalate into that .00000000002 chance or whatever. I live in a sweet ass town in the suburbs that nothing ever happens in and last year some dude gunned a cop down here over a fucking traffic stop. I'm sure there's also been more incidents of officers having to subdue crazy/drunk dudes carrying/waving/brandishing guns around than bullshit "activists" like Riff Raff we see here as well.
It'd really help if the people who did this didn't act so jumpy and shady all the time honestly. I understand he has the right not to tell the officers his name but when they're trying to be open and amicable it's frankly asinine to go "JUST EXERCISIN MY RIGHTS LOL" These kinds of people expect all cops to be assholes and treat them like that even when they aren't. It's a really shitty thing to do.
I dunno, he seemed pretty chill. Then again I watched a lot of videos from the guy in the OP, so maybe I'm just comparing them.
You can tell he had his responses prepared to deal with an asshole cop. They didn't really fit the situation, he seemed really nervous as well. It's not hard to just not come across as a weirdo.
have you ever thought that maybe it'd be good to "become california or new york"
We like it this way and we don't want it to be changed, and as I said a lot of people move from California to Idaho because of the difference, my own sister is looking to move from California because she doesn't care for the place either. But yes, I have thought about it, I question my decisions and philosophies all the time, I feel it is good and healthy to do so and they haven't changed. I'm happy here in Idaho, if it were to become like California or New York I wouldn't be. I visit California quite often and I hate it there, the only redeeming feature of the place for me is seeing my family. Even so, while I'm there I respect the law of California even though I do not agree with them specifically because it is not my home, and I do understand why some people including you would want it to be that way.
The brilliant thing about America is that we have 50 different states that you can choose from practically freely depending on which of the 50 best suits your interests.
I get ya. Same account has a video of a white man in Oregon open carrying where the gun is properly secured and the police don't immediately, or ever for that matter, draw their weapons.
I will say that that was well-handled.
Do they really need seven fucking cops to deal with this idiot? Jesus, that is way beyond Overkill. It's one guy who never showed a hostile intent. Way to jump the gun. Not saying what the guy did was a good thing, but that many cops is too much of a response.

Fucking dumbass This state's law says you can open carry anything. However, you will of course get a talking to by police. They will let you go if you don't give them a hard time, and besides, you never see people open carrying a lot here in town. This guy is just a dumbfuck.
James Yeager thinks open carry is stupid. That's enough reason for me to think it's a good idea. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hLLxkMrBsFA
This is stupid. There's a difference between catching a misdealt with situation on camera and then planning everything out and baiting cops to react the way you want. You can hear it in the woman's voice "he's gettin on da ground putting da assault rifle on th floor" repeating his actions step by step. This is fucking stupid.
It's not illegal, but its unnecessary. Gives responsible, and I mean responsible in a rational sense, gun owners a bad name. Kid is walking around with a self defense weapon into a mob of cops, seems like he's going to start shit.
Exactly, people who do this are intentionally trying to start shit, even if they are demonstrating their right to. They know its not the social norm, and people are gonna freak. If you feel enough that you want to have you right to self defense, get a damn concealed carry.

The gun laws in California and NY are centered around knee-jerk reactions that make no sense really. For example... Not legal in California/NY: [t]http://www.classicfirearms.com/media//catalog/product/customerimg/800x600/a/r/ar02.jpg[/t] Legal in California/NY: [t]http://ww4.hdnux.com/photos/21/70/17/4686787/3/628x471.jpg[/t] Gun control by nature promotes racism and class warfare, by limiting gun ownership to those who have enough money to go through all the insane loopholes to get adequate protection. When it comes down to laws that are in places like NY, California, and some other states, all they do is make it harder for someone with a $40,000 salary to afford adequate protection for their household which may be in a low-income, crime ridden area. It also takes firearms that were meant for efficiency, and downgrading them to something that is pointlessly obstructive and goes against the principle of having one firearm for home-defense, that is efficient. TLDR: Gun Control promotes racism, class warfare, and bigotry.
The brilliant thing about America is that we have 50 different states that you can choose from practically freely depending on which of the 50 best suits your interests.
It doesn't exactly give the US a good image if half of those states are ass-backwards shitholes [editline]30th March 2014[/editline]
TLDR: Gun Control promotes racism, class warfare, and bigotry.
I'm sorry, what? That's the stupidest fucking thing I've read on facepunch all week. It's like you're an NRA member or something
And I got called a retard in a news thread a few months back for saying I would be petrified for my life if I saw someone enter an area with an assault rifle without wearing any police marks, just plain civilian clothing I can't understand the gun right mindset and I never will, I don't understand the point in flashing around your weapon or even having one In Australia this is deeply looked down upon and the same goes for the UK, if I saw anyone carrying a weapon of any sort I would call the police straight away and hide
The comments are very good arguments for gun control. I mean, atleast mandatory psychological and narcotics test.
I'm sorry, what? That's the stupidest fucking thing I've read on facepunch all week. It's like you're an NRA member or something
How? Can you explain to me how creating massive amounts of regulations and restrictions does not increase the price and or cost of an item and hobby? Take for example the NCIS checks, before they came into existence, you could have a gun mailed directly to your door, through the USPS. Now? You gotta transfer it between two FFL dealers, $30 per gun/component. Gun Control is just another way for a bunch of rich arrogant fucks to decide who is allowed to have rights in this country. The NRA is up there on that list as well, what with the whole fudd-attitude through out the 80's up until recently, where they only started to support ownership of semi-auto rifles because every fudd decided to start using them in the field for hunting.
You know watching these videos I get sick of these open carry freedom rights douche bags. Look I am very pro gun, I love the ability to own a firearms for sport and utility and this crap just makes my blood boil. I can't say I am not guilty of open carry myself, spending some time up in Alaska it's common practice to carry a firearm in case you run across some hostile wildlife in town. But I don't walk around with an assault rifle strapped to my back, the worse I have done is carry a shotgun on my shoulder so I could walk down to the shop to buy some ammo for the .44 I usually carried. But you know what I do it in a place that is accustomed to seeing firearms all the time, I have open carried a .44 into Fred Meyer and walked around without any weird looks. You see it all the time around there, parents with their children and senior citizens. It is just the norm, and I would like for the rest of the US to adopt that mindset but I don't expect them to. I wouldn't walk around downtown Spokane with an assault rifle or shotgun because it would cause concern. And as someone who is pro gun I want the exact opposite I want to keep my firearm off the minds of people who didn't grow up in an environment where guns were the norm. It isn't fair. You can't expect your everyday people to feel comfortable around guns when the media is blasting all these shootings in their faces. People see a gun and they feel uneasy, perfectly understandable. Should it warrant having a gun shoved in your face when you are legally carrying a firearm, no. But let's be honest, people stereotype (yes, so do cops) and they see this guy walking down the street with an assault rifle and they flip shit because he just looks like he is up to no good. Having your gun just slung around your shoulder doesn't look too good either. The cops shouldn't have acted so jumpy but this guy should have planned this out a little better. I am not opposed to open carry activists BUT I also feel a certain level of respect should be given to the law because at the end of the day they just want to know who you are and what you're doing so they can be on there way with an understanding of what is going on. I have seen plenty of videos of police stops where you don't get the usual idiot trying to "PROTECT HIS RIGHTS" by not giving information or allowing police to check their gun. If a cop stops me I have nothing to hide, I will give my information if requested and if it makes him feel better to check my gun then so be it. I hope more open carry activists get that mindset because they are only hurting their own cause because somebody somewhere is gonna get sick of their shit and ban open carry. On top of that there is no reason to open carry an assault rifle, I get the whole shock factor thing but if your gonna open carry as a form of activism then carry a handgun in a proper holster. It looks much less intimidating to most people and in my opinion it's much safer then just having a rifle slung on your back.
open carry is such an idiotic law in what situation would you feel like you'd need to carry a fucking rifle around in open view for 'safety'
In the event of civil unrest and total economic collapse. Why are these people allowed to breed.
Man, the American gun laws are messy as hell. I've no clue how I believe it should be, but I think it's fairly clear that the current state of things is messy. Here in Denmark, you can't even carry a knife with a few exceptions. The idea of carrying a firearm of any kind, in any way, is just surreal from my perspective. I realize that there's some problems associated with this system as well, but it seems to work well here. So I'm not going to say that America should just do like Denmark and ban all weaponry outright, in fact I have no idea what should be done. But it's clear as day that it's currently a mess.
How? Can you explain to me how creating massive amounts of regulations and restrictions does not increase the price and or cost of an item and hobby? Take for example the NCIS checks, before they came into existence, you could have a gun mailed directly to your door, through the USPS. Now? When it comes down to laws that are in places like NY, California, and some other states, all they do is make it harder for someone with a $40,000 salary to afford adequate protection for their household which may be in a low-income, crime ridden area. It also takes firearms that were meant for efficiency, and downgrading them to something that is pointlessly obstructive and goes against the principle of having one firearm for home-defense, that is efficient. TLDR: Gun Control promotes racism, class warfare, and bigotry.
Okay first and foremost, a gun is not a basic human need. You have the right to bear arms, but a gun is still a luxury and thus you can't really say that "the price is wrong" Secondly, regarding your example, you do not need an assault rifle or any heavier type of gun to protect yourself and/or your home. Unless you're expecting massive riots in the US (which I don't believe will happen anytime soon), you're not going to need the guns much even. Third, the last thing you need in a crime ridden area is more fucking guns. I mean jesus christ, do you WANT desperate people to have access to cheap guns in order to hold someone at gunpoint? Fourth, class warfare, for sure. I don't believe rich people go out flaunting their guns in the face of the poor, let alone use it against them. I'd also imagine the poor have much more pressing needs to complain about that actually do induce class warfare, such as the access to affordable homes and food. There are loopholes, sure, and those can be exploited by those who have enough money. But that is an error made by the system, that's not what happens in gun control "by nature". Fifth, how the fuck does all of this relate to bigotry, let alone racism? Why does Gun control promote this "by nature"? To whom is this intolerant and hateful? Are gun owners a race now? I don't understand! Lastly, you don't need heavy weapons for hunting either. So unless you love to collect them, you're not going to be affected much. Otherwise, go and collect something less deadly and threatening to the ordinary person.
How the fuck can anyone find a gun a base necessity? Like holy fuck you imbeciles, you live in a modern state not a bloody anarchy. The whole fear culture of "THERE COULD BE A ROBBER OR A BURGLAR IN MY FACE AND THEY WILL HAVE A GUN ANY DAY I NEED A GUN TOO" is just fucked up and baffles me. Of course Facepunch is also on the gun bandwagon, and I also find guns cool as well, but only as an interesting item to be collected and perhaps used for hunting/shooting as a hobby, not as a necessary tool to guarantee your survival in a modern fucking society.
oh my goddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddd
See this is so disrespectful, he wasted way more time then it would have taken to just go through their process. Honestly I get it, the law says I don't have to but the officer treated him with respect up until the point where he acted like a jackass. Jesus that just grinds my gears.
"I'M AUDIO RECORDING, TOO." *Dead silence for like a straight ten seconds* [editline]30th March 2014[/editline]
Like holy fuck you imbeciles, you live in a modern state not a bloody anarchy. And I live in a "decent" neighborhood within the district of a "good" school. No need for an AR15 though.
