One of the best ways to get something really popular is tell people they shouldn't watch it, treat it like it's a huge deal and ban it.

Just look at a lot of the influential literature of the 20th century. I bet Cather in the Rye wouldn't nearly be as popular if there wasn't a huge group of people trying to censor it.
