Already knew this, though as far as I knew the gas bubbles popping in your joints were made of nitrogen, cool that there're apparently other gasses involved.
On the topic of cracking joints, there are times when my left ankle will ALWAYS make a cracking sound, repeatedly after each step I make, and always the left one. It doesn't hurt or anything, but it's pretty annoying when I'm trying to be sneaky or not be noisy and my walk cycle is like "step, CRACK, step, CRACK, step, CRACK".
My father does the same, and I think my brother does too, so it might be a family thing.
