I hope you play as the bad guys as opposed to MURICA fightin' fo' DEMOCRACY
that would be at least a little refreshing
"Introducing Kevin Spacey"
"For when you just can't sell a game on brand recognition alone"
I'll reserve judgement until gameplay though.

It would be a lot better if Call of Duty was more team-oriented instead of fast-gratification deathmatch. I've played the objective-based stuff in a lot of the Call of Duty's - it's all about killstreaks and less about the objective, although that might be blamable on the community.

Not really. Teamplay games like Battlefield are cool but sometimes people do prefer a faster, more deathmatch style experience where their personal ability dictates who wins, not how many medics and supports they have or engineers repairing critical vehicles. It's an opinion thing. Battlefield is my favorite FPS series (even though BF4 has shaken my faith a bit) but Call of Duty is a close second. I'd hate to see it start aping Battlefield. Part of the reason I have fun with it is because I don't have to rely on (as much, atleast) the morons I get for Battlefield teammates.
Also killstreaks fundamentally are no different from how money works in CS or gold works in Dota. There is nothing wrong with giving a team that is winning battles some kind of advantage. That said, the killstreaks that CoD games tend to employ are a bit much. Dropping a sentry gun because you got 7 kills, a sentry gun that can be disabled relatively easily and only watches a certain field of view, is a well designed bonus. Getting 14 kills then calling in an indiscriminate bombing run to kill 6 more people is poor design though.

The thing about killstreaks is that they started off reasonably enough with the first Modern Warfare. UAV, bombs in a specific spot, and a chopper. The chopper could be destroyed without too much fuss, and the bombs were basically hit-or-miss or rendered moot by being indoors. Then Modern Warfare 2 added the more excessive bombing runs, Tactical Nukes and other shit and it just snowballed from there alongside Deathstreaks.
It's no wonder that when I played MW3 on free weekends, I always stuck to the Support killstreak options. I'd rather help benefit my team directly than drop shit everywhere.
Democracy 'merica fuck yeah freedom

Well those worked because they were actually designed to solve problems IW had with CoD2. Once the multiplayer community in that game became established, the meta of camping around corners with a bolt action rifle lead to matches that were too slowly paced for what was supposed to be a fast paced WW2 arcade title. So they added the UAV to keep matches moving and bombing runs to extract particularly entrenched campers. The chopper was more exciting at the time because 7 kills in a row was harder to get back then but even then it was easy to destroy; I always had an M60 kit on hand.
From this model of making killstreaks have defined gameplay purposes we got Modern Warfare 2 which all the sudden needed some excuse to kill 25 killstreaks out with all sorts of unnecessary, map-exploding bullshit. Then the rest of the games followed suit.
In the future, flashlights are built into suppressors.

That's actually kind of clever.
That's actually kind of clever.
"Oh shit where are the shots coming from?!"
"It's over there, that moron with a flashlight on his silencer!"

As opposed to it being on the side of the rifle.

You may want to use a silencer regardless of whether you want your position to remain secret for the enemy for some time or not, in some environments. In extremely closed (or long and narrow) spaces silencers can help you not get deafened and disoriented by your own rifle firing. There're uses for such silencer construction, even if it isn't immediately apparent.
I'd also like to chime in that this is the first CoD with a three-year dev cycle.
Not going to lie all those exo suits look pretty sick.
I probably won't buy the game though, I have a feeling that even if the story is as interesting as it's made out to be in this trailer, gameplay will still feel a bit stale and boring.
Third mission in and the Russians invade the western and eastern seaboards of the United States under the command of Kevin Spacey.
the PMC is tasked to destroy 25 million generic russian bad guys and defuse their nuclear missile bomb from destroying a unnamed city
called it
Bah fuck it I'm gonna get it on PC come whenever I get the cash.

If it has bots/spec ops mode then for chrissakes I'll give it a go.
I shouldn't really judge based on a trailer, however I didn't get the usual Call Of Duty vibe that I've never really liked from this. I'l have to keep an eye on it.
It would be pretty cool if you play as the bad guys that are helping Kevin Spacey install a dictatorship. It wouldn't be cool if it wasn't.
One thing caught my eye greatly.
Sledge Hammer Games.
Is this a Call of Duty not by Treyarch nor IF?
Don't get your hopes up they co-developed MW3 and that wasn't any good.

They only did the multiplayer portion, but they helped with Dead Space so it can't be all bad
The founders of Sledgehammer Games were the designers for Dead Space.
I think we may get a good game this year.

fucking hell
Sledgehammer better knock it out of the park on this one. If they fuck up they probably won't get another chance. :v:
I wanna see Call of Duty in stone age with cavemen beating shit out of each other with wooden or bone clubs over women.
This might actually shake it up for once
damn Kevin Spacey looks frigging buff´d
Knowing it the singleplayer will just be another collection of over-the-top setpieces that stop being amazing 10 minutes into the game, at which point it will turn into a "push button to continue the Micheal Bay Simulator Experience" kind of game like its predecessors.
Even Black Ops was like that, but as long as the plot it good and the game has a decent length, I would get it. It at least looks like a pretty big step up from the shit of MW3 on terms of writing.
I hope they really try and make America more of the "bad guy" this time. The trailer was hinting strongly at it, with some biting criticisms of our failure to bring peace to the Middle East and other areas. I just find it ironic playing Call of Duty because you play as the technologically superior faction that goes in, stomps on the locals, and fails to make any meaningful change, yet somehow you're the good guys. And then the dirty Soviet Uni- I mean Russia, invades and tries to take our freedums. That is the plot of the whole Modern Warfare franchise give or take a bit of depth in MW1. Once again, I hope they try and paint the "bad guys" in a more sympathetic life and don't just go "Hoorah fuck yeah" again.
If they went to less explored areas of WW2 like Africa and the Middle East they could have some interesting plots going on. Retro-sci-fi (i.e. Rocketeer style jet-pack Nazis, Thule society psychological warfare and shit).

This is what I meant. :c
They really just need to stop entirely and just not make any of them.

In a couple more games "Call of Duty" will be a dead horse of a franchise you can't really use to name shit. Truth be told, I wouldn't be as skeptical towards this one if it wasn't labeled "CoD", even if everything else was left the same. Sledgehammer may actually do something with it, maybe. For me personally, the sole reason I even look at any of the CoD games are BlOps games, these I like very much. They're everything you can squeeze out of the concept. Not much gameplay (but Treyarch are still pushing the limits here and there) to be found, a rollercoaster, but the plot is really good in comparison.
But that's not gonna happen, next game after this one will invariably be "Call of Duty: Ghosts 2" with even less Ghosts to justify the title.
Oh hey look another generic "PMCs ARE SUPER EVIL AND WANT TO TAKE OVER THE WORLD CAUSE REASONS" story. Neat.
