I think this is really good, but I'm a bit confused by it chronologically. Is it before or after the Halo series? It seems like it might be before, but I'm not completely sure.
What I don't get is, why are the ODST's landing just before the covenant ships show up?

It is 15 years before Halo 4 and a few years before Halo: Reach.
For some reason the armour that Master Chief wears in the next few episodes looks a lot like the one he wears in Halo 2 to 3 so it's going to confuse a bunch of people.
Oh, so Halo 4 is before the trilogy?
Okay then.

its before, but halo 1-3 only takes about 10 years to do

OH no this is the back story for one of the characters in Halo 4, the XO of the infinity. Halo 4 takes place I think 4 years after Halo 3.

25~ years before Halo 4, around the same time as contact harvest.

They know the ships are already in atmosphere, they're pre-empting and setting up a steady defensive line.
[sp]the bodies falling at the end was pretty brutal[/sp]
[sp]scratch that, they were still alive D:[/sp]
[sp]I thought those were Drones, but then I heard the oscillating screams and the white suits.[/sp]

Even if it was 25 years, it'd mean it was around 2530, almost 5 years after first Contact on Harvest.

Its pretty obvious in the show that they know the covenant exist, it just isn't really told to the troops.

So why did they start sending people up an elevator that can be destroyed in one hit by ships that are right next to it, it would of been better for the cadets to die fighting rather than fall to their deaths.

Its quite possible it was a multi-pronged attack, send in spec-ops elites on one end, then descend on the unsuspecting target and glass it while the opposing side's troops are deployed.
This really reminds me of contact harvest, that book was pretty good, awesome that it had Sgt. Johnson in it.
This is quite an amazing series. Of course FP is where I usually find most of my interesting things to watch.
At 15:10, I thought the girl's hair was a flood infection form thing.
[sp]No Fred was in the classified ONI video they were watching. That was indeed Chief in the preview.[/sp]
Oh, I horribly misread what he asked, you're indeed correct.

Because then that involves letting people know what is going on, which ONI had kept under wraps for several years and to say on an easily decrypted signal "The covenant have arrived" could send humans into a wide-scale panic, ONI controlled the flow of information in order to protect us from ourselves (while also arming ourselves in preparation, hence the SPARTAN project.

What I mean is, don't send cadets up a fragile piece of equipment when you could be attacked by aliens in spaceships.
Possibly couldn't get a radio signal down quick enough, the tether at the other end has probably been cut off before entering orbit, but what else are they supposed to do? They can't just leave them there, so send them up, It's a dumb decision but it's practically the only one they had because landing anything in that would end up like Reach's civilian cruisers.
Watching this makes me mad that I can't play the halo games. I've always wanted to because the story seems awesome but I don't have an xbox and for some reason the geniuses over at Microsoft decided what a fantastic idea it was to make most of the halo games xbox exclusive. Psh who wants to make more money by expanding to other systems anyway.

Aren't they just going into space to a station that is just as vulnerable? I think it would have been better to use them to fight at least to provide support to the main troops.
[sp]Holy fuck the end freaked me out[/sp]

Why stay where the enemy is coming when you can go above them, maybe they didn't expect the covenant to be so ruthless, there's so many variables you can argue it for a while but it's difficult to come to a conclusion because of them.

Don't the covenant glass almost every hostile planet?

The Spartan II project predates contact with the Covenant. They were created to quell the uprisings happening all over the galaxy, but before they were properly deployed the Covenant came along
Don't the covenant glass almost every hostile planet?
Well since the covies know about the spartans at this point, it would make sense for them to raid top level military locations in attempts to find some kind of info on the spartans. They probably don't even know it's an academy, they just know it's someplace the UNSC holds dear and therefore it's another possible location for the spartan project. You don't go bombing the shit out of enemy facilities when you think there could be some real fancy tech in there.
I think we've come a long way from this awesome cutscene
