This is an example of a good Crowbcat video. This is coming from a long-time fan of Mass Effect. I've been invested in the series for a decade and I should be defending this game from the depths of my heart, but I can't do it. I'm sure that a lot of this is overplayed at least in the context of serious glitches and bugs, but the overall feel of the game is wrong thanks to the animation quality and voice acting. They aimed for a "cinematic" experience and couldn't even get that right.
I will play Andromeda eventually, but not right now.
Like, the animation stuff in the previous games was certainly nothing to write home about, but it looked correct. This looks like they tried as hard as possible to make it look real but did nothing extra to polish. It's almost like none of the animators knew they could move the character's eyelids. So far the best looking character I've seen was that alien dude that shows up at 11:20. He still looks very cartoony but the face expresses some actual emotion simply from the eyelids being moved correctly. It's just very jarring that there are examples of proper, good, and decent animation quality in this game but there is still a ton of stuff that's just bad. Usually, it's the other way around. Lots of polish with the occasional turd.
From a long time mass effect fan myself, it feels pretty reminisicent of Mass Effect 1, but it has it's shortcomings and everything too.
I don't really know how to feel. I'm constantly being judgmental of it, and i've had a few glitches and it's been broken once on a loading screen, but it really reminds me of Mass Effect 1 in it's quality, it's presentation, and it's failings. It's enjoyable but there's issues with the writing that seem to come and go, and really it's the consistency that fails the game.
i do have a variety of disappointments with it but much of that stems from it failing the grander goals of what going to a new galaxy should be like, but it's hard to stay mad at it cause the combats enjoyable and there's interesting stuff to see and do and just like I remember in the old trilogy a lot of the cool writing is off to the side
It's not okay when it's the Switch but it's okay when it's Mass Effect
Its not ok after that budget, that ammount of people and that amount of time went into this. No excuses.
It's not okay when it's the Switch but it's okay when it's Mass Effect
Both aren't ok.
Nintendo should had fucking known many of those problems could arise, like the controller problems and the screen scratching. Thats like design 101 or something. The rest of the problems aren't fine either because it just looks like there was no play testing whatsoever and it was rushed out the door asap. The other consoles had their fair share of problems aswell, but the Switch had some pretty dumb and easily preventable bits.
As for Mass Effect... What the fuck.
It's obvious that its a cherry picked video, but the fact that problems like those exist in a game this new, and the fact that the characters look like SHIT and someone looked at it and said "yeah this is good", is a whole new level of wow.
I mean, look at fucking HL2. It's almost 15 years old and it managed to do better facial expressions than a game from 2017. And so did Andromeda's prequels.
that's just wrong
I love how many of these glitches take place during cutscenes. Shouldn't that be like, the one thing that's almost impossible to glitch out?
I love how many of these glitches take place during cutscenes. Shouldn't that be like, the one thing that's almost impossible to glitch out?
Well they're all in-engine and usually, though not always, pretty much just move pre-existing models around on the spot. When the game itself is buggy as is, there's pretty much nothing stopping a bug from carrying into a scene, and nothing stopping the scene from breaking somehow at either a consistent method or an unpredictable fault in the code somewhere.
Considering the lack of polish the game has, it shouldn't be any surprise.
EA will probably give them another chance, but this is probably one of their last well funded games.
This is forgetting some things like the Take-Two hostile takeover that almost happened, EA holding the NASCAR licensing, not doing anything with it and just releasing a kart racing game before selling it off; and the bullshit it pulls with Sony, who has exclusive rights to the advertising with all Star Wars games and all FIFA games.
Bioware got the same QA as Bethesda now?
That Krogan Voice, my god haha

I'm more troubled by the attempt at a serious fight looking more like it was awkwardly made with SFM
Man, I have over 30 hours in the game now and I've lost count on how many times that bug where your character just starts walking like they're constipated for a few seconds has happened to me
Mass Effect is dead, long live The Witcher
The Witcher is dead for the time being, you must mean Cyberpunk 2077 ?
ahaha 9:55, he just ejects right the fuck out of the game
that was so good and that ending was wonderful
I still don't get how they fucked up the gun model
I've been paying this game since day one and have 30hrs as of right now and I've seen just about none of the issues in this video. I don't know what is causing the issues all these youtubers are recording but for me to experience at best, 10% of what is in this video, with 30hrs so far in it, that seems odd. There have been bugs here and there gameplay wise, but those are rare as well and nothing has been gamebreaking.
This is just another case of a profitable witchhunt. The amount of ad money to be made off these types of videos makes it profitable to make these even if they're disingenuous.
Honestly, I still would like to play Andromeda, but no way in hell for the AAA premium of $60.
For that price, I expect considerably more polish, and fine-tuning, but the reality is that few, if any at all AAA developed games put that extra effort to justify the price tag. If it's going to be a mediocre experience like it seems to be, I'm more comfortable paying half that price at most. At least I've got other games until it comes down.
i go to crowbcat for entertainment because fuck ME he cherry picks like he's lived on a cherry farm his whole life

You're lucky then. :v:
I've had NPCs doing the wrong things in cutscenes (like Suvi sitting inside a block of metal while talking to me and Kallo, people teleporting around, NPCs walking through people I'm talking to, etc).
Gameplay-wise, I've personally experienced:
- Enemies that spawn in the air doing nothing, when you shoot one it's revealed to be an entire group of mobs and they all fall down and suddenly aggro your sorry ass (pretty much instant death in Insanity lol, happened to me at least once every 3 or so encounters in Voeld).
- T-posing Kett that can't shoot back (but they can slide around!)
- The game teleporting me to bumfuck nowhere just because I accidentally stepped on an inch of water or slipped off the map (rare, but jesus christ lol)
- the Constipated Ryder Walk™ I mentioned earlier that just keeps happening
- Enemies getting stuck in objects and breaking their AI (had a fiend get stuck on stairs once, was amusing)
- Enemies straight up spawning in or phasing through the map making them almost impossible to shoot
- Dying doesn't bring up the game over screen and sometimes just shows a black screen (but the UI still works and you can still hear your squadmates fighting), need to pretty much restart the game to fix it. Happened about twice now.
and I'm not even close to being halfway through with the game. Maybe I just have shit luck, but come on BioWare :vs:
bioware games are like sticking your hand into a box to draw a random number
what you get radically determines the difference between bugs and a relatively clean experience
then you find out there's only two numbers you can get in the box

Either you have extremely bad luck, or I just have crazy stupid luck because out of everything you said there, I've only had constipation Ryder. I had another funny one with gil where he was typing an imaginary keyboard outside Jaal's room, but that's it for bizarre animation errors.

I don't really understand how you can not see scripted sequences? The cutscenes that have bad animation aren't really a random thing.

Ya and in the scripted sequences that I've been through that are in this video, I didn't see any of this. Remember that scripted or not, the vast majority of the cutscenes in the game are real-time, and are just as prone to random bugs as the actual gameplay.

what gets me is the fucking run up
it's like they couldn't even be assed to make a dynamic animation moment, so they just have the character awkwardly jog on over into the camera ala gmod machinima before desynced SLAP SLAP SLAP ensues
it's EA's fault in the first place for ruining bioware and micromanaging them from the head to force them towards the common denominator
That and the fact Krogans are pretty much established to fight close-quarters mostly via charging each other, tackling and lots of headbutts.
They don't gut-punch each other because that would literally have zero effect.

If we're talking about how much we hate EA still, Titanfall 2 is releasing a content patch with a free weekend to draw players and try keep the game alive. EA decided to make it a free weekend for Battlefield 1.
