They did a lot of mime classes to figure out how to act like robots- I think I heard in an interview that one of their teachers was a mime as well, so I guess that's what got it started.
I may have thought what the fuck is this shit but I loved it all the same.
Steam Powered Giraffe are great. I do like this and it's good, but i don't really think it was a very good choice of song to cover.
Anyway, enough bitching. One of my favorites:
The Spine has a really awesome voice. Fire, Fire is my favourite song they've done, it's a shame there isn't a non-live version available. The version with just David (the Spine) is good but i prefer the version with SPG:
It'll be on their next album
Really? Where did you see that? It will be awesome if it sounds anything like that live version.
Really? Where did you see that? It will be awesome if it sounds anything like that live version.
Their most recent album ends saying "See you next time... in space!"
It looks like goddamn cgi.
It looks like I've got a new band to listen to. I like this, it's just different and weird enough to be catchy and addictive to the ear.
It looks like goddamn cgi.
Some of my favorite motions are in Honeybee
They did a lot of mime classes to figure out how to act like robots- I think I heard in an interview that one of their teachers was a mime as well, so I guess that's what got it started.
The Bennett siblings (Rabbit and The Spine) met the original two other members in a mime class, ya
This sort of reminds me of kids shows like Lazy Town, with all the make-up and clever movements.
Their most recent album ends saying "See you next time... in space!"
That doesn't really confirm it'll have the song, though. Hopefully it does.
I mean, it's a new unreleased song about space and their next album is gonna be space themed so...

You know, after a few listens I realised that Rabbit's actually doing a really strange harmony at 2:02. It sounds flat, but it's like a major seventh or something? I'm not good at recognising intervals by ear, but if you listen to the background chord it works, even if it juxtaposes the previous line a bit.

So who do I have to kill / whose soul to I have to sell to get the tall guy's voice?
I'm watching a band of eccentric music robots belt out a cover to a song originally created by another band of eccentric music robots. The future is now.
The more I listen to the HBFS cover the more I like it

I could never really get into these guys. Like they aren't bad but i feel they're sort of obnoxious/pushy with their hook. Just not my cup of tea.
I've said it before and I'll say it again: the only thing stopping me from liking this band is their shit gimmick.
I've said it before and I'll say it again: the only thing stopping me from liking this band is their shit gimmick.
Yeah, i want to like them, but i honestly find the gimmick just irritating and overly forced.
It's not just a gimmick though, it's who they are. They've always been eccentric goofballs, long before SPG was even an idea. They are silly fun people who make mostly silly fun songs.
there's a difference between personality and gimmick, you're describing their personality foo, meanwhile we're talking about their gimmicky persona.
So you'd like them if they didn't look like robots? I'm not sure I know what the distinction is here
I could do without the steampunk robot style and weird videos yes. They take away from the music for me. Like i said i don't think they're bad, just could never get into them mostly because of how they portray themselves.
Their most recent album ends saying "See you next time... in space!"
I hope they do a cover of Space Oddity then. Because that is my favorite space song.
