It's like a sarcastic version of winner. Like, "oh, you made your first gmod sex pose, big whoop. never seen that before". It's when something is unimpressive but somebody is trying to make a big deal out of it.
Do we need a lewd rating?
I agree with how iconic the box is. It's even a gmod emote on Steam, that I bought with spare card money to call people dumb on Steam.
330x192[1]
I find pretty much all the new emotes are really positive. The dumb emote was abused a lot - for example you shouldn't rate someone dumb just for simply disagreeing with them (which happened all the time).
Disagree / Dumb were pretty much the same exact thing.
I've seen people use the box outside of steam and facepunch even.
I like the idea behind the sympathy emote, but (a) it's redundant with "love"/"friendly" from oldpunch and (b) I've seen it too much in shitty copypasta (😫👌💦) to see it as a sad/comisserating person
ditch the cute rating, replace it with a spooky rating

The whole purpose of ratings is to quickly and concisely share your opinion or view on a user's post, the more ratings there are, the less practical they become in their actual purpose, as variety diminishes understanding of intent. When a rating is vague, lets say in the case of "Big Woop," it destroys the value ratings have in the first place, as not every user here (as we've already seen) will understand the phrase as being sarcastic, considering it's a specifically Western idiom. Even beyond that, one might not even read the name of the rating, and just simply see it as a positive balloon. Regardless, this misunderstanding for users of varying locales makes it significantly less valuable as a method of showing opinion. Ratings should be as universal as possible, and have wide ranging contextual applications.
Ratings should be simple to understand and not result in confusion, as that defeats their entire purpose. Humor might be an unintentional benefit, but it's not the entire point. Consolidating "I agree" or "I disagree" posts into a simple one-click system is their function, and their form should follow.
Current Ratings to keep or not keep:
Agree & Disagree denotes their respective opinions, rather neutral, context insensitive.
Funny denotes opinion of humor, positive and context sensitive to humor
Late someone's content has already been posted
Love shows sympathy for bad news, support, affection, or to show appreciation to someone; a broad range of positive emotions that reflect context without losing the value of the "heart"
Sympathy redundant, as love is a positive and vague emotion that includes sympathy. Bad news can be rated "love" just as well as "sympathy" while not being confusing or unnecessary
Artistic positive opinion of artistic content, usually music, drawings, or videos, and context sensitive
Cookie replaces winner with a more subtle positive rating. Not as significant as "you're a winner" but while still being a pat on the back nonetheless.
Child Molester useless meme rating that has no context and feels out of place; can be consolidated as a broad insult with Asshole and Big Woop
Baby a context specific rating to show that someone may not be dumb, but perhaps is being childish, immature, or otherwise getting offended or worked up for no reason; that is to say, someone on the verge of flaming for instance. I feel an actually beneficial new rating as it has more meaning than just calling someone "dumb" by telling them that they're being dumb because they're overreacting.
Coin replaces the overused winner rating but gives it an actual significant value; makes coins more common but still valuable and this rating will be used more as a "better than cookie" rating. Hopefully this means every new post that's slightly positive won't be rated winner like on Oldpunch and there will be weight to coin above cookie.
Good Idea replaces useful, informative, and zing, and could be used in all situations. Zing was too context specific and should have just been replaced with funny, and useful and informative mean the same thing, "I appreciate this content from the perspective of someone using it practically."
Snowflake consolidate into baby as it means the same thing; negative rating because someone is being offended or acting immature.
Diamond coins are difficult to get, and until they're easier to get and profile changes are pricier, nobody will use this over coin for just one post.
Asshole consolidated
Bad Spelling ostracizes non-English speakers and acts as a straw man in arguments making people rate posts differently due to a trivial aspect of discussion. Non-English speakers will learn English via immersion here, not from being insulted or having attention drawn away from their content and to their speaking ability. If something is bad content and has bad spelling, rate it dumb or baby, but only if that bad content is regardless of spelling.
Bad Reading perhaps unnecessary, could be merged with late into a broad "slow" rating that means people are behind or otherwise being inattentive.
Cute consolidated
Lucky too specific, consolidate with "love"
Big Woop West specific idiom that will lose its meaning to non-native speakers and thus won't have its sarcastic intention carried over; big woop is the definition of too vague and can be consolidated into baby or another broad negative rating.
Ratings to add:
Dumb/Poop I don't care what, but something to replace asshole and big woop and child molester.
This brings ratings to an even twelve, assuming diamond becomes actually viable.
We need winner back because nobody rates with coins
This is actually a really good breakdown of what ratings work/don't work. Only thing I would change is that making the 'Dumb' rating a Poop would just reinforce the emoji style the ratings seemed to have taken on.
I'd rather a dunce cap or something than a pile of shit.
But ya, these ratings need to be consolidated since there seems to be quite a lot of disagreement on how some of them should even be used
I wanted to recommend a dunce cap but at this scale it might look like a party horn and dunce caps are very western specific concepts. Poop is universal at least, though box is obviously still viable.
But cute rating is the best one, who doesn't like cute stuff?
I agree with pretty much all of this, but still giving someone a cookie still has some sarcastic meaning. I could see someone rating another in an argument in a "you think you're so clever" kind of way, whereas winner was pretty concise in what it meant.
A more subtle winner rating is fine, I just dont think a cookie represents it.
Calling someone asshole really isn't equivalent to the others, though arguably a lot of people will use baby and snowflake as similar meanings. I love that they provide more context than just "dumb" for everything. I'd still love dumb because there's times it's more fitting than anything else
Small thing but "Good Idea" should simply be "Idea" that way it can replace informative either seriously or ironically.
As long as cookie doesn't become sarcastic, then it won't be. I'd vouch for a thumbs up or something, but obviously that's too familiar to Facebook and such. A winner star perhaps is too positive and overshadows the coin despite the coin being fundamentally more impressive. A star aesthetically just looks more impressive than the coin.
This is how I understand it

Big Woop is underappreciated so far...
It's ideal for when someone says somethign snarky / corrects someone when its not a big deal / snipe style posts / does a cringey brag. I think it's a good one.
yes, and make it the clapping emoji
because two hands making contact is the epitome of lewdness
Big Woop seems to be the new useful in terms of frequency.
For some reason I want Big Woop to be a popped balloon instead of a whole one...
At least the three main uses Friendly had are covered with the new ratings. As you depict, Dumb has even more, but they're all really specific insults. Bring back the box.
Should turn the "Good Idea" image into the thinking emote.
While the light bulb works, I believe the thinking emote is more fundamentally "facepunch".
