That's a shame, I loved kilroy's DayZ videos (Back when it was an ARMA mod and not the garbage fire it became), and I absolutely loved Beagle's XCOM videos. Beagle is actually the reason I bought XCOM Enemy Unknown, I suck at the game but his ironman mode videos always gave me hope that I might some day get good at the game, I seriously anticipate the day he makes more videos because he was one of the best personalities on ST along with kilroy imo.
I refer to this video whenever I want to explain Arma's bullet penetration sim to someone new to Arma. It's an informative and straight-forward factual video and it's the only Dyslexci video I'm comfortable with recommending to people. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cix07R1vlhI Anything showing Dyslexci in actual gameplay is suspect because it smacks of ego polishing and rigged conditions that frequently look like a Little Bird that's invincible and Dyslexci's player character has mission-file-level godmode. Also, his newer videos are in 21:9 or something and if you don't have a 21:9 monitor expect to see mostly letterboxing because he's become an aspect ratio snob.
I never knew Dslyecxi was such an asshole
Honestly, I'm really not surprised such a thing could come from the Arma community. They're basically DarkRP servers on steroids, when it comes to elitism
Yeah, just look at FPArma, what a bunch of hardcore milsim elitist lunatics. When are we going to stop Cuel's tyranny? https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/227435/2e0b845e-8c17-4553-8890-ff24b0100f4f/02110.png
oh hey im subscribed to you on youtube
THE ADMIN ANIME ILLUMINATI DID NOTHING WRONG
My second mission with ST, Dslyecxi had a go at me for pointing out what I thought were good positions for our AR. Much later on, I found myself in one of his fireteams again as AR, and opened fire on a bunch of dudes when nobody else had fired or been fired upon. He got ultra pissed (Understandably, to a degree), left the server and told me he had half a mind to shoot me right there. Eventually got kicked out cause I got the skype equivalent of fraped, but by then I think he was just looking for any reason to remove me really. In hindsight he did me a favour. The vast majority of its members are sound and I've had some of the best gameplay out of this series with them, it's a shame ST's undermined in such ways by its founder.
@Cuel
ArmA has taken a toll on my health. After being forced to train for six weeks by the Croatian Sensation, I had to drop out of college and pay my 20 dollar membership fee before being shipped to the pennies-on-the-hour SQF factory where I maintain my membership by paying in either the pennies I earn, shitty missions, or blood. After my training regimen they took my social security number, officially pronounced me dead and granted me the role of Master Private First Class Second Degree and I was given a slot as a spectator so I could gain the satisfaction of being one step closer to being a real-to-life bonafide Tactical-Hunter Online Trooper (THOT). My boner intensified before I was finally removed from the military simulation group for not having my gun on safety after Drill-Sergeant Croguy handed me an M1911 with a single bullet just in case I couldn't take the training. I was then summoned to an execution by backblast as all of my favorite Tactical Operators fired blast after blast of a variety of anti-tank weapons in the exact opposite direction of where I was strung up with the rest of the failed recruits before a group of highly armed Future-Soldiers killed everyone with fully automatic AK74M grenade launchers, backpacks filled with HE shells that fed directly into the barrel of the launcher. FPArmA merely scratches the surface of what it is to be an army man... online.
KILLOMAN
This story is patently false. It was a land mine for you to step on, not an M1911.
Holy shit, I had no idea ShackTac got this bad. I've spent my entire Arma career passing through multiple groups before I finally said that I needed to build the community I wanted, because I'm not going to find it anywhere else. But seriously I was in ShackTac from 2012-13, and it never looked this bad to me but I can easily believe it developed into this. The community had an extremely strict regiment with no flexibility. But I didn't think it stretched farther than the game. Back then, ShackTac seemed no different to me than 7th Cav, UO, or TAW (which I was in all of them and they all share similar issues to ST, TAW of which was interesting because I knew a lot of people high up in TAW, who gave me inside light into the clan, and they have the same exact thing going on as ST now). The whole new member indoctrination thing is pretty legit though, I remember when I got in I spent about 2 weeks on every day (required to be in the clan) to have the teachings of Dyslexi bestowed upon me. But ST's new member induction isn't much different from say 7th Cav, or UO.
Yeah, honestly I had no idea either. I genuinely enjoyed his content for the longest time. I found it odd that eventually most of the shacktac members I really liked dropped off the radar but that's it.
"Just an FYI there are a lot of amazing people in Shack-Tac, and I have a ton of fond memories with them. I just felt alienated by Dslyecxi and broke all ties with everyone from the group, so I'm sorry if you are one of them." Gotta echo this. From day 1 it felt like the guy had it in for me. I wasn't a model player by their standards for sure, but it felt like he wanted to keep it that way so as to have more people to deride. There were a good handful of people there who did a lot to help and encourage me in remediating my shortcomings, but he undermined it all by making me feel that any improvement I made wasn't worth it. He was very indirect with criticism, yet still scathing. I almost feel disgusted I bought into it, I even defended ST on here once in the past. I never made it past FNG so I was insulated from all this fucking toxicity to some degree. It's interesting getting the context behind Beagle's absence from the group, and how he seemed nowhere near as enthusiastic about playing the game compared to how he had been in his videos I'd watched in the past.
I used to want to be a part of ShackTac when I started playing ArmA, I just wanted a community to be a part of. Now, theres FPARMA, I haven't gone to any of the events yet, but someday!
Seems like "the community is great, the administration is not" is echoed often. I wonder how they can be so good at selecting new members yet be so shitty themselves.
It's not really that hard to pick out good youtubers vs. those who need more experience. For example, compare the following two videos (in links because I don't want to promote): youtube.com/watch?v=1AULdtZ7y4c youtube.com/watch?v=yt1lIdh_OVc If I were picking people for simple video quality, I would pick the former even though they are roughly the same in content. Why? Firstly, the first video has jokes which are added to or enhanced by subtitles. The second video has none of this; most humor is in spoken clan chatter. Secondly, the first video has subtitles which move around and follow stuff where needed, showing experience in editing footage. If I were ShackTac (which would mean him actually being good at management in general), this means the first youtuber could adjust more quickly to my "style": I wouldn't need to teach him what to do to promote my channel, I could just give him resources and let him do his thing. Finally, there are no or very few reused jokes in the youtuber throughout his content, showing that he has, at the very least, better experience with his audience, and is more comfortable in front of a recording microphone. If I ever needed live humor, I would trust the first youtuber more then the second youtuber.
This is what I have to live with, every day
