• Delete existing APNGs?

Just to get a slight idea, can you people rate this post as following: 🍪 - For equality sake make it so that everyone can purchase an animated background as long as there is a file size limit. 🍼 - I want them all gone and that no-one ever again has the option to buy one. 🎈 - I really don't care so just let the people who got them early enjoy them and let's all carry on with our lives.
Blues started to use APNGs in their avatars and that wasn't that much of a big deal back in oldpunch. in all honestly, its all about file size restrains and thats all. seriusly, some people are sounding more and more like not having an animated feature is undermining their internet persona.
I'd just allow it.
Seeing as you can no longer upload new ones, no. They aren't going to affect your speed, because your browser will cache them.
Just remove backgrounds and avatars entirely, also usernames. Instead we shall all be given unique 32 character identification strings made up of a random assortment of numbers, letters and symbols with all common slang and dictionary arrangements removed from possible strings. Example username: LP3USWLl$PEB$^5%H-hj)vzu3%rBdf@U When we run out of 32 character usernames we'll just switch to 64 character strings and everyone who has a 32 character string will feel so special that their name is so short and easy for meatbags to remember.
If we can get a file size limit, that would make people who really want to pull off their creations have to format properly. I remember all the time back in oldpunch having to fight that 200 kb limit for 80x160 avatars. Sucks I missed out when apng was a thing.
I say keep the APNGs, just enforce filesize limit and make obnoxious/flashing/nsfw backgrounds bannable if they aren't.
Kinda ironic to go "lol u crying over something so insignificant" when in reality it's you being upset about maybe possibly losing an animated background. I mean you basically just lied about why you did it in the first place just to make it seem more legitimate. I don't know what to say to make you understand that I'm not personally upset about not having an animated background or whatever. I used the same non-animated avatar on the old site for 7 years straight, and Duchovny is probably gonna stay where he is until this site closes down or I leave regardless of how rules change. What I find annoying is the fact that you're trying to turn your personal need for uniqueness into everyone else just being a salty motherfucker. You don't have to be a psychologist to tell there's some projecting going on.
The thing is that I don't care if they get removed, not a single fuck would be given if I refreshed the page and it was gone. I just think people making a huge fuss over the fact that some users have them really dumb. And what do you mean lied about why I did it? I literally though, what if apng works, might as well try it, oh cool it worked, let's go share this innocent bug with others, people say I broke rules, I joke "lol it's not a rule is a suggestion". I'm not saying your making a deal over it, I saying there a a couple of people crying over a stupid little thing
The true elites of society are those with no backgrounds my gold coin deficiency will go away some day
Since people are being such babies about having their precious animated backgrounds taken away, how about we delete their avatar, and lock their background to this. https://imgur.com/lH8qwYo
Who is tho
Use Twitter's Snowflake to generate random IDs. This is what Discord uses, and it generates easier to type strings. However, if you want letters as well, then your method is probably better.
Oh hey we joined on the same day!
look at how cool mine is though plus it's only 263 KB
Some of the animated ones are pretty cool and creative, would be a shame to stomp this creativity. Mabye make animated images 100 coins? That way they're something rather special.
I think animated backgrounds should cost as much as getting back to old gold avatar size.
Making it more expensive doesn't solve anything, it just delays it. In a year's time we'd run into the same filesize concerns but now everyone'd be a lot more invested in it having saved all their coins.
you may not have broken the letter of the rule, but you definitely broke the spirit of the rule if it says "should not be animated" and doesn't allow .gifs, it's a reasonable assumption that it shouldn't animate. the fact that garry forgot to do APNG checking doesn't mean the spirit of the rule wasn't bent
Shouldn't != Mustn't
Let them stay. I think the ones I've seen so far are all very cool! I don't even have a background because I don't give a shit :D
I think the entire argument is pointless and anyone who wants them to stay is a snowflake and anyone who wants them to go is a baby, and people like me who don't care are a big whoop/child molester.
it'd be fair play to delete them but im also not gonna raise a stink if they don't
"you shouldn't drive on the shoulder" "you shouldn't speed" "you shouldn't sexually assault people" "you shouldn't murder people"
Ignore this quote, fp prevents it from being deleted Good job comparing a animated background to fucking murder and rape. What the hell kind of comparison is that? This is an online forum where the owner shitposts and bans users at his own discretion, not a court of law.
Really 'cause the most whining I'm seeing is people who don't have them, literally demanding they be removed out of fairness lol I'm more in favor of just making animated backgrounds an official thing in some way but you can have a superiority complex all for nothing if that's how you want to act
the point i'm making is shouldn't has clearly been used to be a restrictive statement to make the argument that shouldn't != don't is dumb
I think it's pretty unfair to not level the playing field by removing existing apngs, but it isn't exactly out of character for FP. There have been quite a few things in FP's history that were only attainable by being there at the right time, or had access taken away because garry said so (See: Gold on oldpunch before the Community fund, Larger blue avatars on oldpunch, 80x160 avatars without using coins)
Hey I understand if you want to level the playing field by removing animated avatars. Still, selfishly I'd like to keep mine. Won't be too mad if I don't, I actually chose the first frame of the APNG for that case so it'd still look decent.
I'd be cool if the existing animated backgrounds were removed and then the concept brought back as a feature. I don't mind paying my way to getting one legitimately in whatever system Garry might dream up, I just don't want animated backgrounds, as a concept, to disappear from the forums. The original vision might have been static images only, but I feel like that heavily stifles creativity. My background, for example, I wouldn't even be using if I couldn't have the subtle sway. I wanted to emulate the title screen of Spider-Man from 2000 (without going through the process of having hundreds of frames to catch all of his poses, of course) and it wouldn't be the same as a static image. It would, then, just be a screenshot of the title screen, which is a lot less interesting.
