I tend to agree with rusty (wtf I never thought that's a sentence that would ever be uttered by anyone)
As someone who was a former mod of a literal porn site and therefore recognizes way more CP dog whistles than any normal human being should, people really can not be trusted at the edges of legality (especially when it comes to porn)
It's dangerous to get even remotely close to inviting any of that to be on our forums which is why this discussion is such a big one imo
That's exactly the point though. Porn sites have no social filter for who signs up. Anyone can make an account and start uploading shit, whether they're Dan McCoolguy or the Compton flasher.
In the scenario where NSFW is in its own subforum, and to gain access to that subforum you need to engage in other topics to level up, not only is there greater incentive to not post things that'll get you banned, but you've managed to demonstrate that you're at least self aware enough to follow the rules in the other sections.
I would be really interested to see the effect level restrictions would have on how people behave.
i love how even when everything changes, everything stays the same
No point really arguing also, because when garry gets time or gets an idea of what he wants he will make the change and then everyone will go back to not even mentioning it, so really this thread is pointless.
Garry wants a NSFW section because he spends so much time at work and on these forums that he doesn't have time to look at pornhub and instead views the content we share.
Why do you think the catgirl thread came back after the shit fit on oldpunch? Garry wants his catgirls.

Why would we want pornography on the website? I know somebody posted earlier, something along the lines of "Why would you want to debate politics on a video games forum, go X" etc. But that is a completely different issue, like comparing oranges and apples. Pornography is a taboo subject and brings a lot of complexities with it.
How would it be moderated? Would the current moderators even be willing to trawl through pornography threads to remove the inevitable questionable material? I seem to remember a spate of people posting lolicon in one of the old threads that went completely unnoticed for a long time because the only people viewing the thread were the people posting lolicon. I certainly wouldn't be able to stomach trawling through images of cartoon dragons fucking or whatever weird shit people like.
What risk would it bring? Our website is widely read around the world, so we span a lot of law systems. Although we are based in the UK, civil actions can still be brought against Facepunch as a company for whatever reason. Not to mention that we risk illegal material being posted / shared / hosted on the website. I feel that there is also a real risk of younger users potentially being groomed, enabling Child Sexual Exploitation.
Finally we have to consider if we would want Facepunch to be synonymous with pornography. Would it affect the reputation of the website?
I think given all the above, implementing a pornography forum would not pay off in terms of reward vs risk. It would be too difficult and time consuming to manage effectively.
Though I have no argument against the rest of your post, I will say that having kept an eye on similar threads in the past, moderating porn threads isn't really a huge deal for me, personally.
Very rarely has anyone posted something really heinous - at least in recent memory - and it's fairly easy to get rid of it when it happens.
Anyway, I could go either way on "porn" threads personally, I don't frequent them unless I'm actively keeping an eye out for problems.
mods need to recruit degenerates to help them sniff out other degenerates, like field contacts
Who would've thought that porn would bring up such a heated discussion?
I like the idea of a dedicated subforum that is clearly marked though.
I sincerely doubt that would ever be the case, unless Garry wants to start filming
I imagine it'd be about as synonymous with pornography as we've made Facepunch synonymous with politics with Polidicks, aka only if you're already interested in it would you go into it
What about Garry's post on the first page of this thread? He evidently doesn't seem to be that concerned.
I think if you're gonna take that stance then you may as well close the offending threads asap because it's obviously a big issue for you. The issues you raise would warrant such a response.
"Why would we want pornography on the website?" Bit late to be asking that question when it's already on the site.
Wait, so how do we know how to rate the OP? I'm not seeing any ratings by the options.
If there's a fear of facepunch becoming synonymous with porn wouldn't that already be the case, esp when there were literal porn sub-forums back in the day and have constantly been porn threads (i think bar the whole fiesta that happened a while ago) to this day without that being the case.
This help?

I just want to be able to browse at work without suddenly having tits and dicks on my screen
so what's the consensus @dorkster , we going to go the people's way, garry's way, or hezzy's way?
You wouldn't see them unless you entered the threads in question at which point that's your fault. That argument has been countered a bunch of times already, must we really keep seeing it repeated?
How about we make the forums 18+ only to join.
How come only the Furry + Anime thread was closed?
seems like the decision has been made for us
It hasn't been deleted tho so this might be temporary while the debate is going on?
probably just crap being a dork
@dorkster if you're gonna be fair you HAVE to close the Hot Girls thread too. I mean, have you seen the first page?
I mean considering my job literally has a guy who and I quote, "I love HD, you can see all the specific wrinkles on a girl's asshole" out loud in the backroom to full on laughter from everyone.
I don't need to pretend.
...why? That thread had literally no issues and based on the ratings on the OP, people clearly do not have an issue with it.
