I'm new to all this and I was wondering how difficult it would be to gain some followers and get commissions rolling through. I don't have time for a regular job this upcoming semester and I'm going to be needing some grocery money so I figured this was my best bet for now.
Every time I see this ad, I like to imagine the entire animated part of the commercial, including the parts in other peoples' voices, are being spoken by the old man to his granddaughter

Steam dialed back almost all quality control some time back. One of the upsides of that is, porn games are essentially allowed now afaik.

Yo I know this is sort of the art thread and not the "talk shit about things" thread but I gotta get confirmation im not the only one who this is just confusing the hell out of.
You all know those "adopt this character" shebang? I remember when that sort of deal (for one they weren't called adopt because that ain't the right word you dingus) was lowkey and most of the time was a "you pay for this character which comes with a commission slot for it and is like $10-20 more than a regular commission from them"
Meanwhile nowadays im seeing them left right and center from tons of artists and 99% of the time they are just "buy this sketch of a character that's really not that interesting with some colors that look odd for a ridiculous price", nothing more nothing less.
Bonus points when they are existing stuff like Pokemon with "thicc" slapped onto them or a pack of the exact same image with different coloring.
Why in the god damn do people pay $100+ for this sort of thing?
With adoptables what you're paying for is the licence to use that IP, either in vaguely defined or very strictly limited terms. Latter if the artist is smart.
You're not getting even the sketch, just a permission to draw the character or pay someone else to draw it. Why anyone would do that ever is beyond me.
Similar to something you said, I'm not a fan of those cookie-cutter commissions where 5 different people each pay $40+ for the very same image in different layer coloring.
Or how "YCH" means "i already finished the character anatomy and details 100% but i'll color it like your character" to some artists.
Whenever I do adoptables I literally just give them the rights to do whatever the fuck with it. Not sure why someone would pay for anything less.
YCHs that I do are also customized to their character's species/anatomy/etc. Though I don't do adoptables or YCHs very often anymore.
IMO it's lazy to do it any other way but I guess if your art's good enough then you can get away with a lot.
