I think its good to judge for yourself if something is good or not and dare to be different if you like something, even if other people might say its a bad to like said thing.
Who is everyone? Any reason why you chose to try to stay out of it?
If you like it and it's not harming anyone or breaking rules, then there is nothing wrong with that. If people are gonna dislike you because of a simple interest, then you're better off being with friends who don't judge you for something like that.
If you wanna be a furry then be a furry. Anyone who bothers you about it can mind their own business as long as you’re not being invasive or weird.
also if it's a career concern thing - i know tons of furries who are in high level studio jobs. They just keep it separate from professional life. It's really not that difficult to balance the two

I think its probably due to even 5 years ago, the fuckin' dumbasses who basically turned furries into the meme that they became were only just starting to leave.
Now and days, this holds true, 5 to 10 years ago? Oh god no. If you didn't meet certain criteria you had the drama club screaming at you and acting as 'gatekeepers'.
Then MLP happened, and furries were saved.
I guess I haven't ever bothered to try to join the "furry clique" so I never ran into the issue lmao.
I just like drawings of anthro animals man. Making it into a social thing beyond just sharing art sometimes is way too much effort. I'm too old for that.
That's pretty much what happened, it became a social thing and then the narcissists saw they could have power and shit went south for a bit.
I just like drawing dragons and getting paid for it. Picking up a couple friends along the way is pretty neat tho.
I mean I never got into all this past just liking the anthros and having too many characters, but yeah it definitely has mellowed out some. If you wanna get into it again, just do it. It only really affects you. The people who'd bitch at you over it will most likely find any reason to anyway.
And on topic, one of the best pieces of art any of my characters have gotten. Not that I don't love every piece of art I have gotten, of course.

I'm pretty heavily into the community side of the fandom and I can see why people wouldn't want to touch it with a ten foot pole with the continuous drama cycle and fame politics but I love the people I meet in it, unabashedly weird creators of all sorts of different stuff, people creating new identities for expressing themselves that just doesn't really work offline. Also cons, cons are awesome
Yeah drama is an annoying as fuck part of the fandom which is why I avoid most #furfamous groups et. al. Hell one con I consistently go to, MFM, has a "No Drama Allowed" sign that they turn on at opening ceremonies.

Generally speaking keeping with mild mannered people in the fandom isn't that hard and can still be fun as hell on the social side.
