Well I guess the difference is I cut the middleman and never actually worked in the aerospace industry haha (I did do an internship in an aeronautics company though).
What companies are you considering?
First shot is gonna be at Tesla as a service tech, bit of a step down but I'm willing to work my way back up in a field I actually care about. For renewable energy I'm looking at companies like EDF, e.on and Siemens for the wind turbine stuff.
@beaner fight me
no I don't hit kids.
then no worries m8, I'm starting a thread about you! You better react with a dumb box or I'll be disappointed!
yeah just fucking demolished me with that sick burn might need some Neosporin just to get the tears flowing again.
lmao dude just stop posting, ur digging a hole for urself
sure man. I'll stop posting when people stop dumb boxing questions and answers that work 👌
@George_Sears Hey dude. I've been scouring around digging up Dark Souls models for a while, and Google-Fu brought up the old 'Dark Souls models V1' thread here on FP. You posted a very damn good looking model of Creighton there, but did not release it at the time because you weren't satisfied with your own cloth rigging work on him yet. This was 8 months ago according to the dating, I'm wondering if you've still got the SFM model on hand and if you'd be willing to pass it to me as is, or even just release it wherever. It doesn't matter to me if there are any issues with it, I just really need to get my hands on a Creighton model and as far as I can tell you're the only person on the internet who has ported the model to SFM.
@Lambeth what's the source of your previous background?
Artist by the name of Barnaby Ward. Website over Here

(would also highly recommend treading the comic book he has online)
@DomoNoble do you know the song name for the pumpkin video in lmaopics?
I'm actually on my last month of internship at one of EDF's R&D labs, it's pretty nice. I think there's one in the UK.
Over here the benefits are very advantageous. A full-fledged employee can't be laid off, enjoys some of the best works council which offer reductions on vacations, concerts and expos, and gets his electricity for dirt cheap (which can be pretty advantageous if you plan on using an EV).
I don't know how it works abroad though, maybe they have different statutes.

@Galactic S.O.U.L simple: anime is always a sin regardless of how good it is or isn't
@AtomicSans im gonna eat ur ass later
@LearningLua Hey dude. This is probably going to be quite a lengthy message, sorry. It'd be nice if this website actually had a PM feature but I guess this will be here for the world to see. I'd like to preface this message with a clear statement in bold saying this is not me criticizing you, but rather just giving you some advice based on my past experiences on this website. Every time I see one of your posts, you tend to shortly after pick a battle with some other user either over criticism or because you received a rating you didn't like, and I kinda wanna do something about it because I've been kinda keeping an eye on you (hope that doesn't come off as weird! I just tend to lurk on this website and it's hard to ignore repetition).
I joined this website back in 2010 because I wanted to learn GLua myself, back when GMod was in its height of popularity, and when Fus Ro Dah was considered the greatest thing to bless Toybox. I goofed around with other people's codes in an attempt to learn the language, and as a result I always struggled with writing from scratch. It wasn't until I met some awesome users on this website and some other places like BFG and Mushroom guy that I really managed to kick off. I was always afraid to post on this website because even typing the wrong word would lead to an automatic ban because of an incredibly well written word filter (fun times). Those two managed to keep me afloat because I could relay all my dumb questions off to them. But I always stuck around this website because I could learn from what other people posted (even if it was completely unrelated to what I was trying to accomplish), and sometimes I would even ask my fair share of dumb questions.
For me though, coding wasn't enough. I had played Far Cry 3 at the time and I really loved the game. I wanted to port everything into GMod! I wanted a version of Far Cry 3 that I could code for! Obviously, this meant that I would have to do MORE than just coding, I would have to learn how to 3D model, animation, ripping, rigging, UV Mapping, etc... So I abused the hell out of the Far Cry 3 models thread on this website to use for learning everything I could. There was an issue, a user named Rinfect (Who seems to be completely deleted from Facepunch? All his posts have disappeared but the remains of his messages through my quotes are still there. I remember he changed his name to Fredrika at some point) did not like this. He thought that I was doing a shitty job and he took every opportunity he had to fling shit my way for what I was doing, rating every one of my posts dumb and straight up attacking me. It wasn't until a user named itak365 who stepped in and called Rinfect out on his shit for him to stop that this improved. Keyword on improved. Rinfect added me on Steam to apologize, and given that he was in my friends list I thought I'd use him to ask questions like I would to BFG or Mushroom Guy. He didn't seem to like this though, because every time I asked him something he would always respond with something along the lines of "I wasn't this retarded when I started modeling". Eventually, he got his friend Theuaredead to harass me on my Steam profile, and that's when I decided to just block him and move on.
You really surprised me because when you first posted, you were looking for a mentor (this was a month ago) and you ended up fighting everyone in that thread simply because the suggestions they gave you weren't quite what you wanted. I thought that you wouldn't really go very far with that attitude, yet here you are. And the best part is you know how to code! A lot more than I did when I went through my first month! It's really impressive what you've done in such a short amount of time.
So why am I here, telling you my sob story? Because I want to tell you to keep going. Look at this addon I created in 2013. Isn't the modeling awful? Isn't the code buggy as hell? Think that wasn't bad enough? Look at this abomination! Once your eyes have adjusted to that fuckery and you've had a drink to regain your sanity, watch this video. That is a complete remake of that first lantern mod. Everything done by me, the ripping, rigging, animation, code. Now lets look at that MP5 again. Same deal. I remade the addon from scratch, all by myself.
There's one proper way to respond to criticism, and I don't feel like you're doing it right at all. For instance, I am infamous for my Buu's SWEP Base (another one of my really old, shitty code things that I have severely improved over time). There was a user on this website named LEETNOOB, also known as CSPSpy (of Customizable Weaponry fame), who made a video showcasing all the glitches that he could with my base, but the video was done in a way that came off really dickish (like he was making fun of me?). I'm not sure if that was his original intention or not, but you know how I responded to him? I thanked him, and asked him how he managed to replicate some of the bugs so that I could patch them out. Just that simple act of not attacking his criticism made him completely 180 his tone and delete the video.
Essentially, I'm telling you to keep being awesome, keep learning, and most importantly PUSH YOUR KNOWLEDGE TO OTHERS. I would have killed to have someone like you on this website always eager to help out when I first started. But also, for the love of god, ignore ratings. A box will not be the end of your life. We have users around this website who rate people randomly just to get reactions out of them (inb4 Marphy rates me Late ), so it really is important to not act like the rating will end your life. The rating will help you understand if you did something wrong (after all, if your post ends with 10 dumbs on it then you most likely said something dumb), but don't berate people for giving you an opinion on your post. I was going to use this thread as an example of how you should respond to criticism (where you understood what you did wrong and corrected it) and loop back to this thread as an example on how to NOT react, but you've edited your original posts a bit so it makes it a bit hard for me to do that.
Once more, keep making cool shit! I'd love to see you post on WAYWO sometime! And if you need any Lua help, feel free to bug me on Steam.
@buu342 I've been pretty inactive on the site as of late I've had to take a break from Lua scripting due to burnout BUT I am picking it back up and am always here everyday just roughly browsing so I didn't expect to see this at all when I logged in today. Firstly, I'd like to thank you for taking the time to write such a lengthy post it doesn't seem many people are eager to help me for one reason or another. I understand your intentions with your reply... I just want to address a couple of things first:
The GMOD Lua Discussion thread, at times, seems incapable of discussion even though it's a discussion threads. I'm sure you saw my post about the rating system. It's actually not that I'm upset about the ratings - it's the fact that any time someone rates my post dumb they refuse to explain why and someone else has to do it for them which defeats the purpose of the thread I think. See... if the same people who rated my post dumb took the time to explain why something I posted is wrong (because my name IS LearningLua) then I wouldn't mind the dumb rating at all, in fact I'd probably apologize and brush off any dumb ratings from them in the future because they took the time to express that their intentions aren't malicious.
Malicious intent is the entire reason I created the dumb box farming thread in the first place, because I don't feel it has a place in that ONE thread, because it's not constructive and clearly no one wants to talk about the ratings (which I also think is a bit passive aggressive and I HATE passive aggressiveness).
But getting back on-topic I actually didn't expect your post to be so friendly, I was expecting a long lengthy post about how stupid I am once again. After taking a break for a week or so and coming back your words make me want to push for knowledge even more so thank you again. Specifically I would LOVE to post in the monthly thread that discusses what I'm working on but at the moment it's not unique enough to post and a lot of the code, I know, is either wrongly done or un-optimized. Which is why the majority of my posts aren't asking questions about how to code something (exception to that a little moreso recently, I acknowledge); because I am actually trying to learn this stuff on my own which is why it's all the more frustrating when I post a solution (that works), someone rates it dumb, and then refuses to have a discussion about why because they feel "attacked". I think that's a bit hypocritical and I don't feel the community really grasps that it makes that thread a really toxic place.
I understand I contribute to it though and I want to be better but I don't think it's fair that people say I initiate these fights; although there were a couple of people that really frustrated the hell out of me and went around the thread telling everyone they were stupid or being really condescending with everyone, that's how I was welcomed to the site - so it's nothing personal but I am more on edge when talking in that forum (like you mentioned) because of that.
In any case... I appreciate your advice and I'll genuinely attempt to incorporate it when talking on the forums and try not to get so frustrated about things. I do want to be better at GLua and that's why it's been so frustrating. Again thank you for reaching out to me and I appreciate the steam offer - thank you so much for pushing me to do better. I might tag you in some replies if that's alright? Add me on Discord: Congenial_Organism#5608
I'll keep this one short unlike the last message. I just wanted to clarify that if you are getting 1-2 dumb ratings from the same users consistently, just ignore it. Just like I had to with the other user. You should only really care about what the ratings are trying to say if there are a lot of them (because there you know you're not being harassed by the same people, but rather you're being told that what you said was genuinely dumb). I know it's hard to ignore them, but frankly you at times are better off doing so.
The entire idea of the rating system is to avoid having 100 people reply to a single post "I agree". While a few people end up abusing it, I've always felt like it was one of those things that sometimes is done to get a reaction out of people (I'm looking at your Marphy. Stop haunting meeeee)
I've gone ahead and added you. And feel free to tag me if you wish
I actually said this in the reactions thread but usually when I post code I know it's dumb to some degree because I've only been doing this for a couple of weeks I just don't understand why so when people that aren't constantly dumb boxing me rate my post dumb, and then don't explain why... that's usually when I "attack". But I get that the ratings shouldn't be taken this seriously I just think the sole responsibility of discussion isn't just on the person who posted but also the ones who are engaging in the thread. I'm a very straight forward person and it puts a lot of people off but 1. if you don't want to be called out on your ratings, don't rate? 2. if you're rating in the first place then you should be ready to have a discussion about why you rated (because it's in the discussion thread).
This is just my general thought process it doesn't mean I've disregarded everything you've said or am going back on trying to be better about it. I just wanted to explain it. Thank you again for taking the time to have this conversation with me, and I will keep trying
