Personally, I find it a little annoying when you have such colorful smilies. The ratings are enough in my eyes and the old basic smilies do everything they should - in my eyes they are also the best!
It would be cool if there was a way you could see the plain smilies.

windows key + ; opens it, you'll have to do some registry bullshit to get it working on other language packs though, its only enabled on English.

I personally use it's alternative win+. myself, but for those that don't want to fuck with registry and whatever, there's been an emoji picker for software keyboards since win8

In case anyone wants the Mac variant, it's ctrl+⌘+space. The emoji picker expands to become a character viewer as well
