tbh with displaying subforum threads in the main GGD forum it feels like theyre just threads with a "topic" applied to them and not actually part of a subforum
i definitely do like the custom profiles and love how mine came out
Normally, I'd suggest that Polidicks be a subforum for SH. But, given that subforums show up in parent threads and that Polidicks was meant to be separate from SH, I wonder if something else could be worked out or if it's just better for them to remain separate for now.
Can I suggest replacing Far Cry as a subforum with Ubisoft?
Yeah, I really feel like a Nintendo subforum was the better way to go. Mario doesn't see enough releases or questions in a year to warrant his own subforum. A Nintendo section would be able to hold Mario threads alongside every other Nintendo or Nintendo-adjacent release.
Yeah, with the exception of a few "major" games that are prominent in FP's culture (as well as "one off" games like Fortnite), I feel that company subforums would work better for the gaming section to kill multiple birds with one stone.
Or, at least change how the subforums are listed on the Index because it might get a bit unwieldy to see a long list of mildly active subforums.
Replacing subforums with thread tags is alright honestly since the smaller forums had little enough traffic - the filters available need a bit o' tweaking but other people have already covered that.
Also, being able to optionally hide certain subforums/tags in the "Main Category" listing might be ideal - not only for OIFY, but also in a few other cases, such as seeing discussions related to things like drugs mixed in with more "normal" topics.

Geez that is visually terrible. Can we get those more structured? Like in their own fixed size or so. Having actual thread names start all over the place is just weird.
Thinking out loud, maybe it would be better to categorize by game genres and companies (again, aside from FP staples like TF2). Like, we could have Nintendo, UbiSoft, Bethesda, etc, and then forums for FPS, Strategy, etc. Some games with subforums (like Far Cry) might be too fleeting in their popularity.
I'm thinking the basic idea is this allows for topics to be promoted or demoted from subforum level as time goes on
since everything exists in GGD, if a game ends up not needing a subforum for long enough, the subforum gets removed and the tag remains in GGD
I assumed it was a joke and it was still meant for nintendo discussion.
Considering all of the previous Nintendo thread moved back, it wasn't. I really want it to go back to how it was honestly.
Also I don't know if this is possible but I made this as a suggestion for the tag layout:

actual it is
body.page-forum .threadlistsection .threadblock .threadmain .threadtitle a.threadsubforum {
position: absolute;
height: 16px;
right: 0;
bottom: 0;
}
Garry, what even is the thought process behind this? It's confusing and inefficient, it's not gonna stay like this for long.
Is the film & television section going to receive the same treatment?
throw PUBG and Fortnite in one Battle Royale sub forum imo.
also An Activision/blizz forum for Overwatch/WoW/Starcraft/Destiny 1-2 perhaps?
Just applied it to my custom css and it looks great, and it made me think of an even better idea (imo)
What if the tags on the right were actually images that represented the subforum? Think of how we had those different thread icons on oldpunch. A little fade in on the leftmost part of the image and it could look cool.

We either need filters so we can personally hide these threads if we want to, or just make them not show up in the parent forum.
Tried to get more structure and organization, garry just shot me down saying he wants more threads
Makes no sense to have a Mario subforum over a Nintendo one. Mario as a subject isn't that active and even before 2.0 we had multiple nintendo ongoing threads
Maybe replace the thread icon with the subforum icon/title?
Because as we all know quantity is better than quality.
There's exciting things going on. I bet the community will be a lot more active now that the Rust subforum has rejoined its unwilling parent.
I don't think that Garry realises that people don't actually talk about exclusively Mario that much. There's like, one thread's worth of content for exclusively Mario games when something new comes out and that's it. If it's meant to be a general Nintendo subforum, why not just call it that? I don't think the company and related stuff is so active that it needs an entire subforum to itself.
Seems like a good example of unnecessary fragmentation.
But now they have a choice to post about Mario games in a Mario forum. And their threads won't get knocked off the forum by 20 megathreads that are being posted in exclusively by the same 30 people, who never actually view the forum they're in to see the guy's mario thread.
garry expects us to know that a mario board is meant to be a nintendo board but unfortunately the average forum user is a retard that won't get the context of the name and will make a splatoon thread in the general games forum
personally i think subforums will be more better and servicable if they were about bigger topics, e.g. a tabletop section is gonna be a lot more useful for discussion than a pubg section
and also if the main forums weren't basically a slower version of the ticker
You want small threads to not get repeatedly knocked off by big threads, so you're encouraging a larger amount of small threads to knock eachother off, and more quickly at that? You don't want a small number of select megathreads, which existed specifically because they served a good purpose, to stick around at the top, you'd rather no threads have any reasonable shot at being seen over eachother?
I'm genuinely struggling to understand your logic here, getting rid of a landmark in an ocean doesn't somehow make it less of an ocean.
I said it in the Discord, but 25 of the 40 threads shown on Page 1 of GGD are tagged threads.
