It's definitely one of those decisions that if I could afford all of them and still eat I would lol. I think I'm leaning more towards the FZ-10 or 800RR The FZ-10 feels a wee bit faster "faster" being relative in this case both have power for days and throttles that you don't so much roll on as you flip on and pray although the FZ-10 is the only bike that made me go hnnNNNGGGGG HOOO GOD the first time I goosed it without TCS on the FZ-10 is also cheaper with a much better aftermarket considering it's basically a naked R1. The 800RR is just so goddamn pretty though
Went for a ride around the Surrey hills yesterday with a couple of friends, absolutely awesome day, despite being warm as fuck. Have some pictures of various things we found along the way! In order: Friends + bikes Ryka's cafe, a motorbike themed and friendly cafe Panorama of the parking lot at Ryka's A pub in a valley through some very narrow and twisty roads through the hills, the ride getting there was super fun! Newlands corner looking After the ride we finished it off with some cheeky nandos with the lads https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/110137/ba7ac1d5-7c7b-4e0a-8cde-7c06a9735d0d/IMG_20180701_150911.jpg https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/110137/e214a67a-b700-41ad-b903-de71f004e0c8/IMG_20180701_153401.jpg https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/110137/647ee1f1-b8a5-4cad-b1bf-565c1057604c/IMG_20180701_155557.jpg https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/110137/b855229b-6ee5-4f3b-b8ff-83b5158fac1c/IMG_20180701_162208.jpg https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/110137/94fdc16a-ecfa-4a82-972e-f3fa44348138/IMG_20180701_173645.jpg
That's awesome, I wish I had people to ride with in this area. I'm too socially anxious to join a motorcycle club without being pushed into it and I don't know anyone else here who would ride out randomly sometimes. Most of the time I ride out, I'm either solo-riding aimlessly or riding to a shopping center with my girlfriend.
Honestly I only meet people I ride with through other means (see avatar), I've never found motorcycle clubs to be the sort of people I'd enjoy hanging out with personally. Where abouts do you live? I'd be up for a ride sometime
I live in Hertfordshire area, it's a bit far away from Surrey but shouldn't be anything impossible. I'm leaving for holiday for the remainder of this week, however, and I have to get the bike services as I've surpassed its first 600 miles.
Oh that's not so bad, I'm near Greenwich but will pretty much ride anywhere. We probs won't be going for a ride this weekend but will organise a bit of a bigger one in the next few weeks or so
Would be interested in an FP Bikers meet. Does your bike have an owners club? The one for mine is pretty chill and mostly about gentle rides and visiting bike shows. I also ride a lot with people from work (and friends duh) You should see Miles From Nowhere in Derbyshire on a bike evening! Every Monday and Wednesday night its heaving http://www.cbx6.co.uk/mfn4.jpg Not my photo, but at it's fullest there can be nearly 3000 bikes supposedly.
FP bikers meet would be interesting to do and certainly a lot easier as I would know most of you guys more or less. I'd be looking forward to that. In regards to bike owner club, it's a good idea in essence, I'll look up whether there is such a club.
this is really cool and all but holy balls dude scale your photos and compress before uploading, them suckers are like 10mb each. Anyone know a thing or two about carbon fiber forkguards? I've got a roll of veneer that I was going to use, but kinda prefer pre-formed split tubes over using zip ties to secure my stuff
My bad, I was under the impression that newpunch did that automatically
Finally saved enough and bought some Vance & Hines shortshots for the Shadow bobber. I've had the bike for over a year now, and wanted these pipes since I bought it. My main focus was getting her converted into the bobber, so while I allocated the funds for the conversion, I literally set aside every single $1 bill I got at the end of the day over the course of a year until I had enough to order these (I actually had more than I thought I did, which lead to my next purchase below). They're so pretty! I wore gloves while unboxing to make sure I don't make any permanent fingerprints. Once this SoCal heat dies down, I'll get these puppies installed. Ever since I began running an open filter with stock debaffled pipes, it's just too much air coming in and not enough getting out. These are really going to wake the bike up when I throw in the Stage 3 jets at the same time. https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/113284/9b3925cb-b05d-445c-84fa-609c49ed0d19/1.jpg https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/113284/b6e63af8-df7a-4f8a-897b-1d28bf26c686/2.jpg https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/113284/c66328df-1f97-4a0c-908a-8bc287380c74/3.jpg https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/113284/475df3f2-9e11-4a8f-94bb-3565661f1953/4.jpg Time to get these stock pipes off! https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/113284/57c265dd-d754-48e1-b87f-5350efde8e8f/bobber.jpg And on a side note, my buddy has a 2017 Triumph Bonneville Bobber that's his only source of transportation, he lives paycheck to paycheck and has always wanted a set of pipes himself... so I ordered him a set of British Customs Drag Pipes for it. Was good fun getting a confused call at the end of a shitty workday to hear him say, "Uh, did you just buy me an exhaust...?" Just stoked the both of us can go thundering down the road now. He got his on Wednesday and installed them same day despite the heat, they sound beautiful with that huge 1200cc parallel twin. https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/113284/b971091b-bf51-4e46-9899-3b77d148ad3d/5.jpg
Man you have the cleanest VLX600 I've ever seen. I got my friend a 2001 for Christmas, and no matter the work we put into it replacing bits and things, it isn't nearly as cared for as yours.
Those are some expensive scaffolding poles for the bobber :p I bet they sound amazing though. I'm waiting for the warranty to expire before I fit some Norman Hyde silencers to up the noise a bit.
It's a VT750. But thank you! Yeah, they're pricey. But they're the cheapest exhaust available for that bike and they really do sound great. We're gonna heat wrap 'em.
Balls. Got my bike to fire up, but there's something fucky with the clutch. There's no power transfer to the wheel, apart from a momentary burst when the gear is selected (and generally only for the first change), which occurs before the clutch is released. Feeling like it might be a shitty clutch lever (eBay specials) that's riding the clutch?
Got way too close for comfort to a couple of scooter thieves, thankfully they didn't seem too interested in my bike but still, first encounter since I moved to the UK.
It's a bike, and it's got a motor (sorry the fitness subforum and cycling thread is a bit dead) https://www.importpris.no/users/importprisno_mystore_no/images/2017-05-22/43261e3eaf7f475f2d50b5fbdd57a937.jpeg What I've bought and what will hopefully arrive in about two weeks
I've had an E-Bike for a few years now. I used to use it daily until I got a motorbike and now I hardly use it. Need to ride it more really as it's collecting dust mostly. https://wisperbikes.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/905-crossbar.jpg The laws are constantly changing regarding these things though. My one has a full power throttle and they have already outlawed that. You don't really need a throttle on these things though they aren't particularly fast (if you have a legal motor size that is i've seen plenty of people on clearly illegal sized electric motors) and providing you keep the pedals moving it will give you the power.
Legal motor size is 250W, the one I'm getting is 500W oh well, not that there's ever been a bike inspection of random people on the street.
Who make it and how much did it set you back? I'm not sure how I feel about e-mtbs. I've only ever seen them ridden so far by people who don't seem to know what theyre doing and generally making a mess of things. I watched a guy come screaming (literally) down a rock garden. When he stopped next to me at the bottom I asked him what was up and he said he couldnt pedal because the bike went to fast, but if he didnt pedal he couldnt go fast enough to balance. I figure he hadn't found the switch to turn off the assist, needless to say I set off promptly and didn't see him again on the way down. On the other hand, with something as heavy as a fat bike (even a solid framed one) I can see why you'd want some assistance getting up hills.
Yeah i've seen a number of people who have taken their bikes and fitted 1000w electric motors to them. Some people get stopped for it by being overly blatant but it isn't anything to really worry all that much about. With the laws changing so drastically each year it's impossible to keep your e-bike legal anyway right now. The only thing that has made me think about selling mine is the word about potential laws coming into place that will require you to have a licence plate, cbt, insurance, motorbike helmet and all that. I'm a motorcyclist so obviously not worried about the licence part but I don't think I can be fucked with having to get a licence plate and deal with insurance and tax every year on top for what it is. This is already law in some of the northern parts of the UK and people are being fined for not complying. E-bikes are great fun for what they are but i'm not interested in all the extra hassle if these laws make their way down south.
What? No. This is only if they are over 250W or has a throttle and that applies to the whole of the UK. https://www.gov.uk/electric-bike-rules
Store brand Got the "usual e-bike stuff" though like Tektro gears, Shimano motor and gears, and Kenda tires Also ~$1500 which is literally half the price of the second cheapest e-fatbike I found in Norway. Also I'm still a fatass so an e-bike will be a good gateway into exercise by doing something I've always loved as a kid.
Sorry I was thinking it was Scotland for some reason but I was just confused these laws are in affect in Northern Ireland. https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/1055/ce50065a-ed90-49f7-a932-052bc20bd2f7/141276710775oday_c.JPG
Plans coming together for a trip to the south of the Netherlands in September, actually super exciting, just hoping me or the bike isn't dead by the time I get there. Route so far, anything I should avoid, check out, things I should know? Never ridden a bike through multiple countries in a day before. https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/110137/29180aeb-deac-4878-bf28-09577487f89f/image.png
I take it you're getting the ferry? The deck is slippery, don't bin it, you'll luck like a nonce. There are some odd requirements for riding in France AFAIK You need CE approved gloves (although apparently you can get by with any protective looking pair) You need to carry (but not necessarily wear) a hi-vis, just like cars You can't use any in ear devices (sat nav, bluetooth music/phone) so remove it from your lid if you have one You can't ride with DTRs, you need dipped on There's also some stuff about reflective helmet stickers and carrying a breathalyser, but I've never seen either. Might be worth taking a spare bulb kit. You don't have to have one but you cant ride with a bulb out. No idea what Belgium is like
Gonna be taking the train as it's cheaper and quicker (time is of the essence on the day I leave) I've heard about the earpiece thing, seems super shitty but I guess there isn't much I can do about that
Dropped my bike on the parking lot, forgot I was parked on an awkward incline and it fell away frorm me pretty much immediately. Damage is just, turn signal glass (easy fix), bent front brake lever (easy fix), bent rear brake lever (a bit more expensive, might be able to live with current one unbent), scratch on engine (Looks ugly, but could probably easily be fixed), but worst of all, my front right footrest bracket has had a part broken. You ca https://vgy.me/ZvXtHx.jpg You can see on this picture(Which I don't know how to thumb), there's a screw in a little arm on the bracket. It's for adjusting the amount of freeplay for the lever. That arm has just broken off and I can't find a place I can actually buy a replacement bracket. That's the worst part.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x0AfvdUdD0k This is sorta motorbike related, rip pizza
Hard to tell fromt he angle but was the dude that crashed riding along with a can of red bull in his hand?
