• Actual reasons as to why Subforum Threads being in Parent Forums is a mess

So threads for minor games should just die off after a day?
Is it really going to make more people involved in the community by making people make a new thread every time they want to say something about a game?
I think in some cases they shouldn't just die out. For example there's the TG/CD thread as Atomic Sans has pointed out. There's also the Factorio thread. That one's reasonably active to the point it usually gets a post or three per day so there are people actively discussing the game. But it's nowhere near enough activity to warrant closing the thread and insisting on people making separate threads for everything regarding the game though. That'd just completely kill any discussion on the subject instead.
the path of exile thread is pretty much never going to see posts from anyone who doesn't already know about the game and is purposefully searching for a poe thread outside of maybe major content releases, though that's going to help less considering we don't have popular threads now. at least before we stood a chance of sitting on the first page for a little while.
Supposedly Garry's plan is to just let people sort it out themselves, and the way out of the cluttered cluster-fuck that is GGD/GD is to enter a child board. So what happens if I'm not interested in anything in said child boards? I know jack shit about cars, guns, drugs, science, fashion or fitness. My only option is to go through like ten pages of things that I flat out can't do anything with, or just eat shit. What about GGD? What if I'm looking for The Surge, which doesn't have its own dedicated board? Or Prey? Or fucking ANYTHING that hasn't been arbitrarily granted it's own board? And since we still don't have megathreads, what do I do then? Am I supposed to make a thread asking how to make a staircase using a GLOO Gun in Prey, or how to kill Lord Farquad in Shrek 3 on PS2, only to get it buried under a tidal wave of previously contained, redundant questions? Let's say I am interested in TF2, it's still a fucking shit filled mess. Let's also assume since we're in a perfect world that I can now blacklist anything from the child boards. Since there are no more megathreads, I'll get my normal feed of cluttered, redundant shit overlayed with "How do you balance the Tomislav?" or "How long is The Heavy's right nipple compared to his left nipple?" This is a massive, godawful mess that has managed to divide the entire forum, although for the most part in favor of hanging Garry putting shit back together.
Yeah no, this current layout is absolute garbage. For instance in the Games-section you can kiss threads about indie-games goodbye in favor of larger AAA-games and companies. This is terrible.
The biggest problem is that, while you can filter by subforum, you can't filter by the parent forum.
I still think that games with their own subforums should still have a general thread while other threads can be used for specific things.
Garry can't make up his mind - this whole megathread debacle has been a thing for like 10 years now and I'm not even exaggerating.
General Discussion and Games forums are basically unusable now, and when the news bots start revving up Sensationalist Headlines will be too.
i question the act of categorizing certain threads into subforums only to lump them all back onto the same single page. its like throwing all of the ingredients for a three course dinner into a single bowl only to try and take them back out again one at a time when its time to cook
.has-childforum { display: none !important; } The above (CSS) kind-of helps by at least hiding the spam, though it does mean you end up with tiny pages at times due to just how many of the threads are from subforums.
Annoys me a little bit. I couldn't give a rat's arse about e.g. cars, hell I can't even drive one cos of my eyesight; I really don't want to see threads from that subsection burying stuff in the parent section.
This new layout is awful. I shouldn't have to go through 5 pages to find a thread that was last posted in less than 10 hours ago. I thought FP was past this, we got rid of individual subjects forums in favor for megathreads a long time ago for a reason.
If we can get one thing changed out of this update, it should be this. It's impossible to browse and post in general/general games because of it, it's drowned out by the subforum chatter.
I've seen a lot of changes on my 13 years here at facepunch, and this is by far the stupidest change I've ever seen. What a mess.
