His ban got the exact amount of attention he deserved.
What's to stop someone else from trying this behaviour again? Props to the guy, he figured out how to outrage a forum for at least a year and was caught by his own confession. Are we able to make rules around baiting e.g. a pattern of posting deliberately controversial topics designed to stir people up so that this can be prevented in the future?
that'd be kinda weird since its not first time people have pointed out that he's pretty explicitly said he's trolling on discord, or posted screencaps of it
maybe the mods just didnt notice the first few times
It's kinda embarrassing that it took this long with a confession being the reason he got banned.
Fucking took long enough, like I've been banned for trolling but good god, the amount of shit this guy posted and got away with, but oh no, the people in the threads he made getting trolled, nah they got banned, but not fucking tudd.
I started reading stuff after the most recent flare up, I believe I mentioned somewhere in one of the old Forums Discussion threads that I was doing this. I wanted to observe his behaviour for a while as well to see if it would change or continue. It continued.
What a terrible reason to not ban him, oh I want to see if he changes, despite having been the way he is for months.
who
But he is banned.
Years
I'm heartbroken. Absolutely devastated. I don't know if I can go on.
Good. Maybe he can stay that way this time.
He's perma'd, but what happens if he makes a new account? Some permabanned users had the chance to create a new account to start over with no repercussions, does he get this benefit or will any new accounts that he creates be banned as well?
i think the general rule of it was "don't get caught, don't fuck up, post well and nobody will care enough to explicitly ban you again"
at least that's how i understood it back in oldpunch correct me if im wrong
and I think to myself
what a wonderful world
Oh man, hilarious, you got me good on that one, well played, I'm glad moderation is taken seriously.
That was from the old forum.
If you were perma'd there you had the chance to change and start anew here.
Perma'd here, stays a perma.
I'm disappointed. He would have been a great way to field-test crowdfunded bans.
This hasn't been the case, I don't think. An user that was permabanned by garry (MPan1) was able to create a new account (MPan1 banned) and post freely on Newpunch and no one really cared (I cannot find the specific banned account and the new one though, the search feature is still a bit lacking). Allegedly, the people who did the shitpost thread spam that have been perma'd can still make new accounts without repercussions, they just haven't done them yet.
I was just wondering if Tudd won't get this chance and any new accounts he makes will be perma'd if caught.
I'm mostly just disappointed in how many people fell for his trolling 100% of the time.
so much for the "tolerant" left
Having never been on the discord, has he been banned from there as well? I'd love to see how he was taking this.
as far as i know alts have never expressly been forbidden, even on a permaban. I've seen people get banned from making an alt immediately following their permaban, but generally if you remake later on and you cut out whatever you were doing that got you banned before, the mods won't really care
I'm legitimately surprised he went on for this long, you would expect people to think something's up when a good chunk of the forum is riled up.
Of course it isn't. Moderator giggles are more important.
"Computing scientists dumbfounded as local forum goers contribute enough virtual money to exceed all known data types. Mathematicians stumped at how to represent such a number. Theoretical physicists spotted looking for a dimension this number could possibly exist in"
I wanted him gone but now I sort of miss him
RIP Tudd, you sure had us all.
Warching him post was always funny. Watching people fall for his bait was also funny. Knowing he's now banned after tons of people getting banned takes the cake.
It was obvious the mods kept him around for laughs and I called it out on oldpunch.
@Hezzy Out of curiosity, can mods see IP on newpunch like they could on oldpunch?
