is garry intentionally trying to make people mad or something lol
Exactly. Why would i wonder into several threads about one thing? Multiple threads now means i have to keep track of what was posted where. An that's inconvenient.
He's designing the website like it was reddit or 4chan, where threads are throw away things meant for quick questions. But we don't have a fraction of the users that they do, with even less now than before the switch over. The stupid thing is 4chan recognised that people keep making game megathreads there so they created a section specifically for them. We already have/had that here and Garry is trying to kill it for no reason. Garry wants to integraate the forums into Facepunch's game and expand the userbase, but of you intentionally ignore you users and make their experience worse you're just going to drive them away.
Ironically driving a lot of the users who left over to Reddit because they do what Garry keeps trying to do but better and with a large enough userbase for it to work so Garry's undermining himself.
Its limited to 30 notications, I get atleast 40 in a day, and thats if I check every day since of the diffrent sections I follow, threads I follow, etc I have 97, can only see 30. Garry, you don't even use the forum, yet you make changes without asking, yes, I get its your site, but if you really just want to kill the forum, just shut it down at this rate, because that all I see happening.
We've gone over this. Garry genuinely thinks that the forum has a big userbase. It doesn't. We don't even have the population of a moderately relevant subreddit, let alone the activity to do so. Seriously, one subreddit has more activity and active users in the middle of the night than the entire forum.
You can mark things as read by just right clicking on it. As least for new threads and posts it works.
Notifications would be far more usable if each followed thread didn't spawn like sixteen an hour whenever the thread gets popular.
Whatever updated killed mobile again, atleast for me. https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/412686280997076993/457241573512445973/image.png https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/412686280997076993/457241582656290826/image.png
I personally think having subforums is fine - it's a nice way to filter out specific stuff but it's being implemented poorly and people just default to using the megathreads regardless.
Once again I have to ask: What is the point in subscribing to threads if they're going to die in a couple of pages?
Clearly the intention is for us to just not visit threads
Another issue I found.... The fucking notification box doesn't work. Some dude replied to my thread here, and I had no notification. Neither did I get any for people rating my post. Not only was there a controversial change for no good reason, but it doesn't even work consistently. Wonderful.
Here is a feature. Also, here is another feature that completely invalidates the first feature.
It feels like Garry thinks that # of Total Users = # of Active Users. Except here’s the thing: It doesn’t.
Online users right now, peak hours on a Friday evening, is 4,182. There aren't many people left on the forums.
I'm starting to think Garry doesn't want the forum to exist at all so he's just slowly making it worse until it withers and dies.
I wish he would just come out and say it, so we can move on elsewhere.
Time to unsubscribe from every subthread so I don't get notification spam about threads I don't care..
Why did the ratings notifications disappear? At this point, the forums are essentially like oldpunch but shittier except for backgrounds and visual style.
Facepunch doesn't even load on mobile for me. I get the top banner and the bottom banner, and empty space. The notifications change is balls though, removal of rating notifications and leaving only thread notifications.
The notification thing would be perfect as an optional feature, let users pick which they prefer.
dang, the previous notification system worked pretty well. Now I can't tell at a glance what I what to give my attention to.
I found this really striking cus I didn't even notice that stat was there. But I went back and compared it with some archive.orgs from the old forums and it doesn't seem that different Friday 13 January 2012, 7:10PM GMT - 4794 online Friday 31 May 2013, 9:16PM - 3320 online Friday 18 July 2014, 8:23PM - 4089 online Friday 11 December 2015, 6:31PM - 2505 online Can't account for any potential differences in how vB and NP count 'online' users though
I imagine the Rust boards have a lot of those numbers
If you check the Rust forums they're practically empty
idk, I see a lot of Rust threads popping up on the "latest threads" column throughout the day. I'm sure a lot of them get deleted tho
A lot of these threads are one or two posts long so paint a false picture of activity. If you look at how many users are reading the Rust subforums now, all of them together are a lot less than General Discussion on its own.
The anti-cheat software's working as intended, I see.
When you have a "lurk moar" culture, you end up with a subclass of users who never interact with the community, who could have predicted this
