We haven't had people tell others to lurk more in years. It's not at all a ""lurk moar" culture".
Not explicitly, no. It's still there though, enforced by "bans as warnings" policy. I'm looking forward to the "warnings as warnings" policy Hezzy talked about implementing once actual mod tools have arrived.
I've fact checked these claims too - you know I had to do it to em I took a two-month period from April-June 2014 (here to here) and found there was an average of 8680 posts per day on FP In the last two months, since this archive.org, there have been an average of 2409 posts per day That's only one period of course but a biiiig decline has happened somewhere along the line
Honestly "warnings as warnings" as a policy has never made a forum I know of that uses it actually bearable. A moderator telling someone "hey stop insulting others you FUCK" doesn't have the same impact as suddenly being banned. Besides it's not like being banned on here is as drastic as it used to be, you can at least browse the damn forums whilst banned now. It used to be just the Refugee Camp. Now whilst you're sitting your time out thinking things over, you get to look at posts and see what got you banned.

Is it possibly because the general discussion forum is getting more views right now because of the shitshow that's going on with the forums at the moment?
Yikes what is going on with the forum? These changes are weird.
Ah fuck, gotta unsubscribe to a bunch of threads now cause they're all locked ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
It seems like it might piss off some people for me to say so, but honestly a handful of megathreads for specific things I was interested in were literally the only things I ever came here to read or post in. A slow, less than one post per day megathread was all certain niche interests ever got or needed, and having to monitor entire forums for scattershot individual threads instead will just end up stifling conversation about anything that doesn't have the population to fill them.
When only cherry picked games that a 40 year old man thinks are "popular with the kids nowadays" get a subforum/tag, it really stifles the discussion for any other game that is exiled to try to duke it out with the likes of "Mario Pissing" on the GGD front page
From previous mod comments around similar updates in the past (both on OldPunch and NewPunch/LabPunch), I get the impression Garry does updates spontaneously and mods don't have much if any heads up, leaving them in a position of only knowing as much as we do.
Problem is even the games popular with the kids nowadays dont even have a lot of discussion going on.
You also unpermabanned/unbanned everyone previously (perma)banned as well during the transition leading to a rise in active users. Given the lack in banning both due to lax rules and the lack of a reporting system, more of them have been able to stick around as well—for better or for worse. Granted, as was said, many of these people are also lurkers as I very frequently come across the same faces mostly notable by purple/blue bars rather than gray bars.
Any possibility of personal posts getting highlighted again? I didn't fancy the sickly green color on oldpunch but it was nice to be able to find our posts quickly
Awfully Dark 2 still does this @import url('https://pgsil.github.io/awfullydark2/styles.css');
I find Facepunch Droid to usually work perfectly fine.
I'm really loving this post limit on threads now. It means I constantly have spend time unsubscribing from old threads and resubscribing to new ones. Fantastic!
Why would you waste time unsubscribing from the old ones? It's not like you're going to be getting notifications for the old ones anyways.
are there going to be any solution for filtering notifications from sub-forum subscriptions? Currently it's a mess to find notifications for new posts in threads I visit and new threads in sub-forum.
The commits page is dead now
One of the things I remember changing all the time during my time here on fp is post count limits. I used to think it was something about there being technical difficulties with large threads, but now when we're using a system that supposedly not outdated anymore, what is the reason to have post count limits? It seems so arbitrary. The only plus I can see is that we get to get a new witty title every so often.
Is the new notification menu not working on mobile for anyone else??
I just noticed that it doesn't alert you of being rated anymore, I really really liked that feature. More than anything of newpunch in my opinion. Gives me a real eboner when people validate my opinions.
For me it just shows the amount of notifications but won't load. https://i.imgur.com/8jfwRCL.png It's been like this since it changed.
Seriously, what was the rationale for combining all the alerts into one category? The original version was perfectly fine the way it was. This is such a pointless and unnecessary change when there are far more important things that have been missing for MONTHS like reporting, mod tools, and reverting the terrible subforum system. As has already been mentioned the stupidly low post cap completely negates the thread subscription system. Also, imo, people wouldn't be as annoyed if Garry gave actual reason for the changes he makes. It's really fucking frustrating to use these forums when changes have without any rhyme or reason and there is radio silence from all involved. What's the point of Hezzy if the community suggestions he relays to Garry are seemingly ignored and the reasons for the changes he actually makes are not conveyed to Hezzy so he can tell us ahead of time what changes are going to occur and WHY they are being done.
Because Garry does what Garry wants, he enjoys watching us squirm.
For me, over the last week or so, the vibrating forum bug has made a return/gotten worse than ever. I see it all over the place now and sometimes when it happens, it also means I can't click any links or play videos in the vibrating area. This some crazy shit
It's also busted for me. The front page CSS is also completely ruined. I can't access anything towards the middle of the page because the thread section links overlap each other. So clicking anywhere on the Hardware and Software section actually takes me to either Polidicks or Creationism Corner. I'm sure it's a negligible fix (considering it worked before) but the fact that stuff that was originally working is now suddenly completely non-functional is pretty annoying.
Stick it in your butt, turn annoyance into pleasure.
wtf is this nonsense change? no one asked for LESS navigaton options, jesus. is @garry even reading any of the suggestions?
