Pcgamer isnt the isse, news node in sh is
i think the main issue with this attitude is that he's forgetting that this was originally a forum - and moving away from what a forum is like he's done with the "subforums" is just showing how quickly you can turn an entire community against oneself. i've seen this prideful attitude so many times - if people aren't satisfied, then instead of taking the feedback in the person will eventually just give up on the whole project altogether. "you think you want it, but you don't"
I'd like if it went to first unread post like the old forums(And like it currently does in the subforums themselves)
news node in sh isn't the issue, sub-forums in main forums is
but garry's vision!!!
So we're going to introduce a new bot that is accepted for about 5-6 months before people start posting to remove it because of a small handful of shit threads? This has happened with every game bot we've had.
That would involve people having to open obviously shit threads to rate them dumb and what about articles that are about dumb topics but the article itself is good?
Agreed - maybe people should actually read before rating. Same goes for posting
I find myself not using General Discussion as much, as the abundance of tags makes the notable discussion threads get blocked out by a large amount of threads for smaller topics, some including topics I don't wish to follow such as Guns, Drugs, etc. If the current system is staying, could General Discussion's subforum categories perhaps be regrouped and relocated into a few new top level forums? Or, can a future update allow us to filter out subforums?
visions only work if your followers follow.... or you have enough market share that people have to take it up the ass
Is there a guide to posting and using the editor? I've seen people edit quotes of me and others but I can't edit quoted posts.
You can't edit quotes, but you can quote just particular sections of a post by highlighting the text on a post with your cursor and then clicking reply.
You can't edit quoted posts at all. All you can do is select individual parts of posts and hit Reply to only quote that chunk.
HOYL FUCK ITS WORKING ^_^ Edit: oh shit, it really says i payed 999.95. Im so fucked Edit: im crying. we are gonna be poor. oh fuck oh fuck i need to email garry and demand a refund
The latter hopefully.
Is it possible to increase how much of a thread title is displayed? I'm finding myself visiting new threads less because I can't see the full thread title.
Anyone having some forum weirdness in one or bth of these forms? New lines in longer posts cut words in half. First noticed it a few days ago. As of today, the page will 'flash' and become broken. Longer pages will stop rendering, and some links stop working. Is this just me?
Update to yesterday's post, haven't had the forum 'flash' and break on me since I switched off wide mode. Might just be a problem with wide mode, or might've been nothing. The text issue is still apparent.
Idk I really feel like the obvious solution is not including subforum threads within the parent forum. Like, you know, every other forum software known to to man does for ... idk some reason... Maybe just me idk.
How is BBCode easier? Or is it more an issue with how embeds currently work?
Personally I find [b] much easier than Ctrl+B although I'll admit that's a very picky distinction. Also, embeds are a mess yeah.
BBcode is easier for me because I used it for 11 years on oldpunch. It feels wrong to type out the code, highlight what I want formatted and then clicking the buttons. I also never think to hit Ctrl+B/I while I'm typing.
Bbcode is easier because when you tell it to do something, it does it. You don't have to fight with it because it thinks it knows better than you how you want it done. I tried to make a text link awhile back and this shitty WYSIWYG editor flat out refused to let me no matter what. It just wanted to embed it or give a raw link. With bbcode it would have been as simple as [url=http://whatever]text[/url]. Even Markdown, which is unintuitive garbage, is an improvement over this WYSIWYG bullshit. And that's saying a lot because Markdown is really shitty itself.
Are there plans to extend word count for thread titles? I find it a real issue when posting news articles, having to delete redundant words and replacing them with the important ones.
Are any more forum changes planned or are we stuck with this now?
It's been 9 days since the last commit so things aren't looking good
