suposedly it was ok as long as they did not monetize it. suposedly.
It's a legal thing, apparently. Honestly I don't trust Microsoft to produce good results if they brought something to PC. They would severely gimp any version they released. Look at how much creativity we've seen already.
ElDewrito isn't being shut down by the way. They just aren't allowed to distribute the base Halo Online files.
why wait so long to do anything legal about it? The only reason they are doing it is because people actually care about halo again and it doesn't have their name on it.

As Microsoft’s need to protect its IP spun up, we reached out to members of the ElDewrito team to have an open discussion about the project and the admittedly difficult situation we all find ourselves in. The ElDewrito team is understandably upset at this outcome given the time they’ve each invested in this project, but they understand the legal implications and the need to press pause on this work. One thing remains clear – the community really wants more Halo on PC. As we look ahead, we’re very excited about the prospects of an official classic Halo experience making its way to PC and we hope to be able to partner with the ElDewrito team and broader mod and content creation community to help inform the types of experiences and features our fans desire. While we have nothing to announce today, please know that the PC community is very important to us and top of mind as we work towards the future.   Halo 3 came out just over ten and a half years ago. We waited, now we're going to do something about it - with or without Microsoft.
The most depressing thing about this whole thing is that the closest we've come to playing Halo 3 on PC outside emulation is a mod for a cancelled Free-To-Play exclusive to Russia.
fuck you microsoft, at least it was fun as long as it lasted. hopefully they'll still be able to do the same as the GTA V stand-alone multiplayer mods and come back full force regardless
It's not going away tho ? You just gotta get the games files ~elsewhere~. But the mod is still happily on github, and even if they stopped development, .6 is pretty good.
Honestly, after everything that's happened? Fuck Microsoft, this is bordering on ludicrous. Yeah yeah, protecting an IP when they released a game in recent memory so there isn't even a danger.

crap I've got 5.1.1, is it too late to run the .6 updater? It keeps throwing me an error.
