The Mundane Car Thread - For people who aren't that into cars

You live in a country where fuel costs what it should do for a limited earth resource
You hear the national average wage and you think to yourself 'wow that's a lot of money'
You need a car for the here and now, a reliable tool to get you to work through 40 miles of shit roads and unpredictable drivers
That's right, this is a thread for the common car, the overlooked, the workhorses that get good mileage even when pushed.
Feel your car is under appreciated for the work that it puts in? Post it, let it know you respect it.
Haven't cleaned your car it a long time but want it to know that you still think shes beautiful? Post it.
Got a sports car? Fuck off.
I don't want to see any 'But with the money for X you could have got Y'. We didn't want Y.

This filthy stallion is my Ford Fiesta, the most common car in Britain. Nicknamed the Bleak Horizon by mates for being like a junkers spaceship.
Now for the stats
Door dents: 2
Months since last wash: 4
Pheasants unintentionally killed: 3
Almost noteworthy features: Roofbars
Miles since 2014 purchase: 41,000
Triumphs: Managed to move close to a ton of wood decking from Wickes
Survived a 40mph rear ender only needing a new bumper carrier
McDonalds fries in footwell: 4
My mundane boi

You might be thinking ‘gee Mighty AU, that doesn’t look very mundane’. Well no, it doesn’t look mundane. But what does it have in common with this taxi boi?

Well actually, almost everything. Same-ish engine (same block except mine is petrol and that taxi is probably LPG), same suspension, same brakes, same open diff, same sagging rooflining and trim that falls apart even when you merely breathe on it, same lack of features. I pretty much drive a taxi with a bodykit. You don’t get any more mundane than that
Why does a mundane car have to get good mileage? This is displacementist!
Gotta get home and gets some picture of my insanely mundane 2004 echo
They were examples! Tenacious trucks, vans and all those that try their best at the call of duty are welcome
What the fuck are those wind deflectors? They're huge!
Wouldn't want any kiwis flying in from 'Zealand getting in there while you're driving.
ik they cant fly
Lol, does the PT Cruiser count?

IDK how mundane you can call it now that it makes ~330whp now. lol
Taxi drivers love those wind deflectors mate. They can have the front windows down, arm resting on the window sill, and have only a gentle breeze come in. It just proves even further that my car is a taxi.
Last owner had them installed but I removed them about a year ago, because yeah they’re fucking ugly and I don’t drive with the windows down anyways
implying sports cars cant be owned by people who dont give a shit about cars.
like, half of sports car owners don't give a fuck about cars and just want their sports car as a status symbol
but
why?
ayy fiesta fam
mine is in this pic somewhere
sorry i couldn't find a closer one but we all know what a fiesta looks like anyway

It needed a head gasket and the turbo didn't look so hot. It's the same price for a modded turbo as a stock replacement, so I got it hogged out with a bigger wheel. Along with that I had a set of 1025cc injectors and a 255lph pump laying around, so I chucked those in there. Bought some 3 bar sensors for $50 and got a rescale tune for $50.
So for like a total of $1000 with EVERYTHING included I went from ~220whp to ~330whp. Because it's funny to race mustangs.
Remember, if I lose in a race, WHO CARES! IT'S A PT CRUISER. If I win a race, then I can laugh my ass off because it's a PT CRUISER.
The mazda MX5 is perfect for this thread, it's the perfect boring car for people who aren't really into cars
https://www.torquenews.com/sites/default/files/styles/img_560/public/miata-gen2.jpg
Just look at this absolutely unremarkable unit
I get into random conversations with people I've never met, who ask "Are you the guy with the Miata?" Anything but mundane.
The true mark of an unremarkable car is when you feel like you've never seen one in your life but it turns out they're really common, perfection
Don't ask me about my gas milage. It's a sensitive subject.
230k miles and still going strong!

How many of your door handles are broken from either inside or out
All are (currently) working!
boring when its regarded as one of the most fun sports cars you can buy
??
To be fair, the MX-5 is the most popular sports car in the world. So it's kinda mundane in that regard.
Also there's just something about the styling of ND roadsters (not the pictured NB of course) and other modern Mazdas which I really don't like. It's as if their curves are too perfect; too mathematical. They don't have any character. It's a problem they share with BMW. It's why I like Alfas, Mercs and Porsches, because their styling does have character.
exactly, it's up there with the corrola
yeah but my point is that he said they're perfect boring cars when they're not really boring
they are BORING
This is my mundane car, doing mundane things. In this instance, it has taken us to a retail park to look at furniture

You call that a fiesta? THIS, is a fiesta
pictured: ziptie secured front grill and about 300 dead flies all over the windscreen/bumper

You wanna know what’s a mundane car?

It’s like a bloody rite of passage for every bogan FatF fanatic to get a damn Skyline as soon as they get their provisional licence. Baby’s first JDM. They are fucking everywhere, and you can tell that they are mundane, because otherwise their owners wouldn’t distastefully mod the shit out of them. The above is a rare example of a clean 25GT; $10k. Or $5k for a R32 or R33 GTS.
fucking assies dont deserve to float that close to the japs
People shouldn't put JDM cars on such a high pedestal lol. The most popular JDM imports into Australia are the Nissan Elgrand and Toyota Alphard people movers, lmao.
It's more that cool Japanese cars in America are very expensive, especially Supra's and any imported GTR's. Also no thanks to F&F.
