It's amazing how every character literally looks like an extra that shows up in one scene and that's it Not a single of them stand out in any way at all OH BUT THIS GUY HAS A SCARF https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/716/4c618332-7a07-413b-8353-a8261b9323d0/image.png and this guy has TATTOO'S and FINGERLESS GIVES https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/716/2af9073d-53de-4fc9-93f2-4583f83ee645/image.png he's also looking up but at the same time down to show that he's hard as fuck https://i.imgur.com/eIVgXkT.png Now lets compare https://pbs.twimg.com/media/C5NtVxTUoAAl-1D.jpg
Already looks and sounds like hot garbage.
Yep, and yep.
I have faith in Shane black. If he can make a the third film in the iron man franchise good, he can reboot Predator
I like shane black, but things don't look good. Trying to reboot predator is a tall order and the reason most people miss is not because it lacks arnold or anything like that, its because John McTiernan was such a fucking good action director. Its the same reason the only good die hard movies are 1 and 3. The others range from forgettable to dogshit because they lack McTiernan in the chair. Black is a good director for a type of film that suits the exact type of film he made his bones in the industry on: buddy action comedies. I'm not sure that will work for a predator film. It probably won't be any worse than Predators however.
When I think of Predator, a kid playing with toys doesn't really cross my mind, watching two guys bored in an interrogation booth with lying detectors... what is going on ? The original was so simple and basic, a laser cut experience. The Thing was also a very simple idea, just a bunch of guys trying to survive. First Alien movie, couldn't be more simple, crew on a space ship, no drama. Terminator 1, guy and woman running away from a cyborg... again so simple.
Predator is a dumb action movie and that's all it should be you can't get a more perfect form than the experience of a true 80's classic action film
they couldn't afford Simon Pegg
there's no indication this movie won't be simple too - all we've seen is a trailer. you could make a trailer like this out of any of the movies you mentioned it may well be awful, but i'm willing to give it the benefit of the doubt given the director's track record.
I disagree that there is no indication when you obviously have a kid they are protecting now which just adds unnecessary drama to the whole thing, urban environments with a lot of people and scientists in a research center, which I am sure will try to explain everything and give the most stupid explanations. I wish I never watched Prometheus
Obviously there are tons of films where it's appropriate, like films actually designed around family viewing. When I think of 'Predator' I don't think 'Family entertainment', I think of bored dudes wanting to watch a cheap action film and have some beer. This just feels like a cheap marketing ploy, obviously I can't KNOW that it's done well, but the kid in the movie just seems really dumb.
Considering Shane Black's track record with casting kids in his movies and writing their dialogue, that's the least of our worries. Sure, it might seem unnecessary when you consider the context of the other movies, but to its credit, this isn't some rehash of the first movie like Predators was.
Iron man 3 is without a doubt the worst one in the trilogy. Iron man spends 3/4 of the movie outside of his suit, the dumb-as-shit kid is overly involved in the plot, and the big switcheroo was absolutely retarded. It was a bog standard marvel movie. Nothing of note happened and marginal differences were made to the overall plot. If thats the kind of sequel Black can direct, I don't have high hopes for his predator sequel. He's already shown he's only capable of making children dumb and annoying.
you see, you're like, 0/2 on opinions here, dude
Iron Man 3 is definitely not the worst. It comes close to the first. The second one is just not good. Way too many issues there to be "better" than Iron Man 3.
Predator is dumb but it doesn't treat the material like it is. Which is a large part of the problem with these failed attempts to revive the 80s action film - theres too much winking at the audience and corniness, you can imagine some fresh from music video directing corporate hire sitting behind the monitors with a "im a little stinker" grin on his face the whole shoot. Predator took itself quite seriously despite what, yes, is essentially a "dumb" monster movie script. Even Alien, which people universally like to pretend is deeper than it actually is (it was even pitched as killer thriller on a spaceship) is essentially a dumb movie. The reason it doesn't feel that way is all in the execution.
You thought the kid in Iron Man 3 was a good addition to the movie? You thoughy Iron Man not being Iron Man was good for an Iron Man movie?
Iron Man is more than the suit. IM3 reinforces the idea that Tony Stark doesn't need to be Iron Man, he doesn't need the hundreds of suits, to be a hero. It's perfect for his arc. Yeah https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ex0PDHGCj-M And as I have said before and will say time and time again, Shane Black has a good eye for this kind of thing. Ryan Goslings daughter in The Nice Guys was easily one of the better parts of the movie. She was funny and added something to the movie, and it helped that her actress wasn't shit. The addition of the kid here is kind of great because it subverts expectations. What's one of the dumbest cliches found in franchise movies? Add a kid into the mix as a sidekick, that'll be a great father-son dynamic- oh wait, Tony's just a dick to him the whole time. It's funny.
Alien's symbology and themes are really overt and I don't understand how you can even come to the conclusion that they're somehow 'made up'.
.... that is in the execution. the concept is literally monster on a spaceship. This is EXACTLY HOW IT WAS PITCHED to studios. It's not a smart script at all - theres very little character development, there's nothing to learn (and everything to infer ) about the Alien, everything is suggested in the EXECUTION of the production. You have Scott and the fantastic team behind him at the time to thank for that, but don't get it twisted, all that interpretation is visual. Theres nothing "overt" about Alien at all, beyond the fact there is a murderous creature loose on a spaceship.
if you meant specifically the script, you should have said so v:v:v
Ah yes, more shitty reboots. Why couldn't this be like an R rated movie with Schwarzenegger. He could come out of retirement as an advisor for a new Seal team trying to take down a predator and end up taking the reins and kicking its ass.
Yeah. Problem is its looking like the new Predator is going to be the exact opposite of Iron man 3.
