This game came out of nowhere, had no hype around it or annoucnement or anything - total rogue one, but i'm actually quite hopeful for this one. Not had an "oh, that actually could be good" feeling for any new games recently
What if that dumb teaser they made was to drop everyone's expectations through the floor so when they showed this gameplay trailer, people could see they weren't actually going for something dogshit, thereby leaving people with a more positive impression?
Know the other teaser trailer wasn't gameplay or anything, but what the fuck were they thinking with that teaser? It did not, to me, justify or even get across that this game would look decent, and this gameplay teaser, to me, shows the game being really fun. Glad I saw this, def gonna keeps tabs on the new rage.
The Overkill first person animator recently joined Avalanche, so expect some great looking gun animations. (after he left the Payday animations became total crap)
Yeah, I'm excited, this pretty much looks like what I predicted in another thread. Also, if 1:18 is anything to go by, are you telling me that the wingstick can basically turn into the Cerebral Bore from Turok!? I'm fucking sold.
Alright, I'm interested. Curious what they can do with a sequel. Guess we'll find out at E3
Loving this trending theme of going full on unapologetic balls to the fucking wall with fighting a shit ton of enemies. And having an arsenal of ultra-firepower. Oh 90s shooters how i missed you....
now featuring 13 enemies at once! id Software does it again!
and.....?
I don't know... I'm interested in seeing where this goes, but the bleak feeling of being fucked by one of the raider factions, mutants or the Authority (I think that was the exact name aswell lol) between rocky crevices and under a beautiful blue sky seems to be gone for a funnier, more crazy tone. Maybe that will set it apart I guess. I liked the first one, but it wasn't really amazingly interesting or had an actual thing going for it, like a soul as other people pointed out in the other thread.
Only thing i dislike is that DOOM 4 style really smooth walking, as if the gun hardly moves, like he's gliding it fit for doom but eh doesn't look good here
As someone who really enjoyed Borderlands, this looks way too Borderlandsish. Idk why they've opted to just completely get rid of the tone of the first game for the whacky over the top thing, but to be completely honest I could still see this being very fun. One of the main problems with Borderlands is all the jokes are absolute shit and the writing is truly horrendous, like a twelve year old got to write the entire game. If this has intelligent writers the tone could be a really really cool thing to see. If it's less narrative driven and more blow shit up, it better have co-op, otherwise it's a no go for me.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fgPRE5pak6k Thoughts? Me personally, not feeling it.
Gameplay starts about half way through. kind of glad they're taking an open world approach for once just because that's what everyone thought the original Rage was going to be, also it suits the car combat idea much better. I'm very interested by that boost jumping too, I really do love that we're finally seeing a return to mobility and verticality in FPS.
Judging by twitter posts, it seems they're aiming for a Q1 2019 release so it's still at least over half a year away, and it seems to be using Avalanche's engine rather than IdTech. Considering their track record with open world games, and the seeming carry-on of mechanics from the first RAGE, presumably it's at worst going to be "just another open world FPS game", which isn't really a bad thing.
Did you miss the dude getting juggled in the air by bullets? That's pretty fuckin' wacky.
Both a matter of fitting and belonging in DOOM, where you play as a behemoth of a man that fucks demons in the ass with his own hands, and not as a man with a magic suit. Also seems like RAGEman has a jetpack, just like the thrust boots or whatever of DOOM.
wow this looks fantastic!
Really curious as to what engine this is running on. If it's id tech 6, holy shit that's one versatile engine.
Damn that's really disappointing that its not using IdTech. Would have been nice to play this on the go with the GPD Win 2 but I don't think Avalanche's engine is optimized well enough for that.
Definitely Avalanche engine, a lot of the same rendering style with Mad Max and JC3, plus if you look at the shot at 00:13, the clouds are the same as JC3's.
How are avalanche suddenly the industry expert everyone wants involved in their project? I mean it's fucking awesome, but how did this happen? JC2 had good vehicle EVERYTHING but then they turned around and narrowed the FOV on cars in JC3 into a narrow corridor. Traversal is damn near impossible in cars. Why are they brought in on Square Enix projects to consult on vehicle gameplay? Why are they involved in Rage 2? I'm stoked because they make great fuck shit up simulators, but i don't understand it.
Probably Beth/id saw Mad Max and said "that's what we want for Rage except its an FPS".
I think part of it is they've got some really impressive tech with Avalanche engine. It supports massive highly-detailed environments and huge draw distances, high quality physics and destruction that allows for tons of objects to interact with each other in complex ways, and all kinds of beautiful rendering tech from dynamic day/night, volumetric light, and massive numbers of particle effects on screen. Also, while I agree the vehicle FOV in JC3 screwed up vehicle gameplay, Mad Max was a whole different story. Those vehicles felt fantastic to control, and the vehicular combat was a ton of fun. It definitely is strange how nomadic Avalanche have become, Just Cause 2 and 3 are published by Square Enix, Mad Max was published by Warner Bros, and now they're working with Bethesda. Plus they've got some self published titles under their belts like The Hunter and Renegade Ops.
New Borderlands looks great! I'm Hype!
Hope this one doesn't have that fucking annoying head bobing like in the first game, couldn't even play it because it gave me motion sickness and a splitting headcahe.
My favorite thing about Rage was the wingstick. It felt really good to cut heads off with it. Personally I'm very excited because I just like the overall design of the world of Rage.
I'm disappointed that iD abandoned megatextures so quickly, as VRAM latency/speed has improved dramatically since Rage 1 was released. The advantages could have led to some really nice workflow changes when it came to designing more natural looking architecture and environments. Seeing them use an entirely different engine leaves behind any hope they would take another stab at it (if there was any to begin with).
They've been using Megatextures in various games since then, primarily Wolfenstein and Doom. Which is also a large part of the reason why no one can really mod-mod them too. Avalanche are the ones mainly heading this game, with Id playing support and probably helping with the FPS combat, so it makes sense that it's more of an Avalanche Engine game than IdTech.
Megatextures are a brute force solution to the problem of repeated textures and objects. They limit the ability of modders to make mods and they push out people who can't afford the hardware to run games using them. I'm very glad megatextures never caught on.
