While I can understand how that sucks for the end-user, for developers and artists it sounds like an absolute dream, and would allow for a much faster iteration process.
That said, I could've sworn they abandoned megatextures during the development of Doom to ensure dynamic point lighting would work. Am I just misremembering?
If you're referring to Doom 4 you'd be wrong. That game makes extremely heavy use of megatextures.
Made texture extraction a very literal puzzle to be solved.
IIRC though the Wolf 2 version of id Tech 6 doesn't use megatextures according to the developers.
i remember in rage 1 the ragdoll physics were very impressive and enemies staggers like drunk gta4 characters when they get damaged. i hope they improve on that
