This is just as much historical revisionism and misinformation as the "clean wermacht" stuff.
Probably not gonna happen as Battlefront fills the class based Sci-Fi shooter niche for them. If only they would make those games have the same depth of complexity as the Battlefield games instead of trying to make it super accessible and arcadey for the casual audience.
No, no and no. If i wanted full depth of a historical occurance's details, i'd watch a documentary or a book. Games are made for fun, not complete immersion. If i wanted such immersion i'd prefer getting off my screen and just live my life.
Fair enough.
how so, exactly? while the anti-wehrb counterjerking can go overboard, there's not really anything he said that's wrong.
ENEMY BOAT SPOTTED
TBH it would be pretty easy to portray the Nazis as evil cunts while still having a sympathetic Axis character.
Hell, if you want to stay away from the whole 'clean Wehrmacht' debate, have a Hungarian, Romanian or Finnish one. They suffered as much as anyone else.
Company of Heroes did Axis campaigns well, why not just do the same?
Or just approach the Germans similarly as they do anyone else: soldiers with an objective and trying to survive a battle. It's not like German soldiers spent their days and nights going "I vonder how many Juden ve exterminated today." You don't need to get into a whole bunch of ideology and all the other nonsense for a short War Story campaign. You can have a soldier sent the Eastern Front who knows it's pretty much a death sentence, for instance. You don't have to play as the SS or glorify the Germans as some misunderstood heroes. At the end of the day, history is what it is and there are stories on all sides of the battlefield regardless of nation or ideal. Germans fought for pride and country just like any other country did during the war. Same goes for the Japanese or anyone.
Or do a BF1942 style bot campaign with a historically accurate briefing and then that's it.
Ah who am I kidding
we're losing this battle start fighting or i'll find someone who CAN
Honestly, I would kill for a World War 3 scenario ala World in Conflict. Where everything is just as advanced enough that you recognize some things but you avoid the dumb bullshit like drones and shit.
I mean its somewhat valid, people threw a massive shit fit over the Talibian being a playable faction in multiple for Medal of Honor. The public just isn't ready for it.
Tbqh, this is why I think a post-cold war or cold war gone hot Battlefield game would be great as you'd have all the wacky experimental shit from the 60s-90s without all the dumb and snorefest modern tech like drones and excessive missiles that's a whopping 5m/s faster than the last missile!!!!!!
Plus pre-modern FAST/MOLLE military aesthetic is best aesthetic.
ENEMY WHEELBARROW SPOTTED, HAHA!
Well that and this as well playing in the background.

Hell, if they wanted to do an Axis campaign without touching the Wehrmacht they could easily do a Winter War scenario. Such a cool theater.
how do you sell a scenario where no-one speaks a word of english to the wider american market?
Or as an SS soldier in Auschwitz, press F to activate cynaide in the gas chamber, and you hear screams as they bang against the doors.
Then your next task is to pick up gold teeth from all the victims
Or you could play as a jewish captive, sneaking papers out to the resistance
I don't think we should let people play as the Axis in multiplayer either. Players might get side tracked trying to hunt down the Jews and forget to do the objectives.
I shouldn't have to respond to this, because it is very well documented that the Wehrmacht were far from acting like a normal military force.
Although it is true that the Wehrmacht were surprisingly calm in their invasions and occupations of the Benelux and France(relatively speaking), at least towards those that were White anyway(African soldiers and black citizens in France were slaughtered by regular soldiers, and in Belgium there is the Vinkt Massacre, as well as estimates of 600 or so other civilian casualties); the Eastern Front is a whole other story.
Poles were slaughtered wholesale in a bid to curb dissent, the rape of women was widespread, POW's were executed, and all this lead even fucking Reinhard Heydrich, the man considered to be the main architect of the Holocaust, to apparently state that "compared to the crimes, robberies and excesses committed by the army, the SS and the police don't look all that bad"; this being the very same man whose entire job was to seek out and exterminate any resistance to the Nazi party in Germany and elsewhere.
In Russia, as a result of the racial policy of the Nazi's, it was pretty much a free for all, with the army being given express permission to just kill any Jews they came across, rather than hand them over. All Soviet Political Commissars were ordered to be immediately killed, even if they were POW's, and the rest of the POW's hardly fared any better since upwards of 3.3 MILLION of the 5 million or so prisoners died in captivity.
The Wehrmacht were not a nice organisation, and were far from being fucking innocent.
i still have no idea how hes killing the player
is he choking the player with one hand?
It certainly suffers from poor execution
is there not enough room in the medium to have fun games but also immersive sims?
Battlefield Vladimirs Ostfront is my hope
I'm afraid there's too much overlap between a new 2142 and the Battlefront series they also manage for us to ever see a continuation of that setting I loved my floating boat tanks...
While I'm excited for Frostbite in WWII, my excitement is limited by the almost guaranteed reality that any authenticity is going to be purely visual.
Meaning, there's not going to be faction restricted weapons, faction specific vehicles with different stats, etc... And it's a massive shame. Asymmetry between factions creates for more variety; makes the team you're on actually matter; and done right it doesn't make any faction "stronger", just different.
For example, see the Forgotten Hope 2 mod for BF2. Easily the most fun I've had in any WWII game: WWII combined arms with a heavy dose of authenticity, and enough realism to hold up that authenticity without moving away from the action game feel of BF2.
Unpopular opinion here but I hate faction locked equipment, just cause if you want something specific you have to be on the proper side, also always creates balance issues.
