people trying to politicize video games
Let me play the games i bought you fucks
I hope nobody really buys that bullshit. Sit in your chair like a useless mute gimp why letting any unhinged right-wing scumbag you can find spew bullshit isn't contributing anything to political discourse besides a net increase in shit people being heard.
They targeted gamers. Gamers.
we live in a society
You do know who's president right? Much as I wish this wasn't the case, people definitely do buy into it.
We're a group of people who will sit for hours, days, even weeks on end performing some of the hardest, most mentally demanding tasks. Over, and over, and over all for nothing more than a little digital token saying we did.
We'll punish our selfs doing things others would consider torture, because we think it's fun.
We'll spend most if not all of our free time min maxing the stats of a fictional character all to draw out a single extra point of damage per second.
Many of us have made careers out of doing just these things: slogging through the grind, all day, the same quests over and over, hundreds of times to the point where we know evety little detail such that some have attained such nirvana that they can literally play blindfolded.
Do these people have any idea how many controllers have been smashed, systems over heated, disks and carts destroyed 8n frustration?
These people honestly think this is a battle they can win? They take our media? We're already building a new one without them. They take our devs? Gamers aren't shy about throwing their money else where. They think calling us racist, mysoginistic, rape apologists is going to change us? We've been called worse things by prepubescent 10 year olds with a shitty head set. They picked a fight against a group that's already grown desensitized to their strategies and methods. Who enjoy the battle of attrition they've threatened us with. Who take it as a challange when they tell us we no longer matter. Our obsession with proving we can after being told we can't is so deeply ingrained from years of dealing with big brothers/sisters and friends laughing at how pathetic we used to be that proving you people wrong has become a very real need; a honed reflex.
Gamers are competative, hard core, by nature. We love a challange. The worst thing you did in all of this was to challange us. You're not special, you're not original, you're not the first; this is just another boss fight.
So disregarding his departure, the bad joke and all of that... I think this one is a much better video on the subject:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kpbWwHi_COQ
It covers the internal culture as seen through Colin's eyes as well as social dog piling and what he refers to as a "social dogma" and while all this is a one-sided account, it really brings two things forward:
The behavior that we saw from certain people in the industry both on the developer side and press side after TB passed and the obvious contrast to their "dogma" of openness, equality and tolerance. It made me a bit angry to revisit this old issue because for all the things i disagree with Colin on, i agree and absolutely see his same assessment of the gaming industry in the words and behavior of the gaming press. I'm not arguing extremism and neither is he. The argument is hypocrisy and toxicity. There's a lot of it. which brings me to...
Joe as an outsider ends up, after all of this concluding about gaming and gamers that they're childish, immature and antagonistic. Even though this is just Colin's point of view, i find that i agree both based on this video and what i've seen of their behavior and internal culture since 2014 and onward: It is such a brainwashed industry that they seriously think they're fighting against toxicity, abusiveness and misrepresentation while practicing all of these vices themselves. It's one thing that we internally squabbled over this in 14 and again when he left KF games. but to hear an outsider being given an account of the behavior of the gaming press as people, not as a media and conclude that it's the press, not the gaming audience that are being toxic and hypocritical kinda re-awakened that old indignation that i though i'd put to rest.
I think there's a lot to be said about how stupid the video in OP is, but i think it's disingenuous to leap from that brain fart to just totally writing off what has become a huge culture problem in gaming. I'm not invoking "damn SJW's" as much as i'm wondering why the fuck there is such an intolerance to different viewpoints in the gaming media as a whole. The image he paints in this discussion while obviously shaped by his experiences and feelings really seem to fit with what we've been observing and other people have spoken aloud over the past few years. It really irks me. There really is this tendency to just rabidly dogpile people over perceived slights with no regard for context at all. It strikes me as irrational and it strikes non-gamers as irrational. Why is it such a huge part of gaming that subscribes to this behavior as acceptable then? it IS insane and it IS frightening to me once again and i have no idea how i managed to put this issue aside despite being aware of it previously. I cannot accept that such a huge segment of pop-culture media and creators are so vehemently unwilling and unable to just take a beat and communicate ideas, experiences and facts like adults. Everything is just a screaming contest and it absolutely is mad.
TL;DR: if you take away all the personal stuff and just look at the events and behaviors he lays out in this video and couple it with the cultures and behaviors through the past few years from Goobergate onto TB's passing, it paints a picture of a cultural sickness that is just as real as right-wing extremism and i would love for gaming as a whole to just be able to turn it all down a notch and start communicating like adults again.
To think this all started because that Pepsi representative royally screwed over that indie game jam.
That's really what this all goes back to.
is this a copypasta?
lol, no. Not even in any universe.
Gamepro used to buy Capcom cheat codes
VG and CE went under because they refused to play ball with publishers on coverage
Dave Halverson was going ot be on the receiving end of class action lawsuit after Diehard Gamefan kept giving import games Halverson's store sold absurdly high reviews
The original publisher of EGM had ties the chicago mob ala money laundering and when every other magazine was imploding due to the interwebs EGM was pushing out 150 page phone books where every other page was an ad
SCE used to send escorts to journalist's rooms during cons
Virtually every editor of Future publications after 1999 somehow got management jobs at game companies despite never having written a line of code or touching an asset creation suite in their life
The things that caused gamergate have been decades in the making.
yeah, one of the many copypastas from the Gamer Joker meme.
http://knowyourmeme.com/memes/gamer-joker
What, know your meme is cancerous? well yeah, just like that meme.
Well
back to the main topic:
Whenever the Media decides to talk about Video Games, boy they sure as hell makes themselves look like a joke, seriously I wonder how they fuck do they manage to fuck it up everytime
Ya just got all those stupid right wing media tabloids like the DAILYWIRE, yeah that website made by Ben Shapiro, saying that if you play violent videogames, you're immediately a worse person.
https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/218043/070d8f89-cd57-4fa5-a596-b0d5ed7d7207/notice.PNG
Saying shit like like this:

And calling people who defend video games, video games apologists, yeah, go fuck yourself buddy.
And on the OTHER side, you TheGuardian writing this fucking masterpiece:

Boy thanks to news like this they will cause more issues about the rise of far right than videogames does.
And what does this new says?

>TROPICO
>A RIGHTWING IDEOLOGY GAME
Get the fuck out, bunch of pretentious selfrighteous cunts.
From what I can tell, it seems to mean that someone is generally economically libertarian, but socially liberal.
can tell you half the people who use "Classical Liberal" on youtube are anything BUT socially liberal
You should look at zero books' channel. It's got oddball video editing, midi vapourwave, and Douglas Lane (the host) engages the subject matters in the most intellectually honest way he can. Also his publishing company sells "books by sjw cucks". His words not mine.
Here's a relevant (and by complete coincidence their newest video) about video games.
https://youtu.be/ueHiAfeksd0
David Rubin doesn't really talk about any of Alex Wade's points in the PacMan Principle. IE the commodification and un-commodification of video games, the up and downside of a society controlled by and controlling itself via play, could games replace commodity production and capital itself?
There's like nothing zero books won't engage with and it's weird seeing someone who sounds so old creating thumbnails with pepes and engaging with outrageous people like this:

Going on fucking 8chan for a Q&A session? The ideas on Rubin's show are safe and stale by comparison.
uh source for any of these
Ironic that people would mock the idea of this when there's been a very real undercurrent of a "gamer uprising" sentiment in the industry for years. I'm not even talking about the fracas around Gamergate here, either.
It's been happening since early Gen7 if not even earlier, but it's really made itself known since around 2013. Hell, you can even see it in marketing and branding nowadays.
What this guy said is so wrong. Liberals are trying to solve all the problems, maybe even trying to solve problems that aren't even problems. Conservatives are the ones sticking their fingers in their ears and shouting everything's fine, or was fine in the 50's.
Yes, but how else does one go about demonizing the L E F T I S T S ? It's pretty obvious where he's coming from, the good old everything to the left of McCarthy is literally STALIN, and STALIN is an absolute (total) state. It's basically a conspiracy theory that extreme right and their useful idiots among centrists love to repeat on and on and on, about how the evil marxism (cultural marxism, postmodernism etc) pushes learned helplessness among naturally free
individuals, brainwashing them to be dependent on state to provide and all other shades of their favorite shit. Because ya know, the idea of individual empowerment through destigmatizing groups said individual belongs to is actually
about teaching learned helplessness.
Mocking how idiotic that mindset is doesn't mean denying it exists. Just pointing out it has no good reason to exist.
uh can I see a source for this too?
tbh theyre usually not socially conservative either
just socially retarded
