Basically, 'surviving a hit is really really hard, so let's work on not getting hit via mobility'
You ever wore a CVC helmet? That's more or less what you described. It's hot as fuck when you wear it now and vehicle crewmen bitch about wearing them inside the vehicle itself imagine going on an assault with it and trying to function. Helmets in general get very hot and uncomfortable and especially if you wear them with electronic earpro. Being able to flip up the earmuffs when not in combat (like say if you're in a vehicle or doing an admin move) is a massive luxury.
Personally when I only used electronic earpro when I was at a range as I wore a PASGT derivative so once I put on the earpro I would not be able to take it out for the next couple of hours and goddamn if I was going to wear that while moving to objective.
And protects against shrapnel of course. This Para Jumper's vehicle was hit by a RPG and because of his helmet, glasses, and vest, he walked away with mostly superficial injuries.

The blast tore his left rail and headset right off his helmet
y'all talking 'bout all this twenty-first century high speed opscor stuff while I"m still rockin an ACH and a pair of foam earplugs on the range lol
I'm surprised they don't make the outside of the headphone casing out of impact/ballistic resistant fibre and plastic.
Those kinds of facial injuries must have been quite common back in Iraq/Afghanistan considering the almost full face helmets they were experimenting with back then.

Wild R9 Arm pistol found, this time it was being smuggled into the UK.
I can't speak for all brands but the Peltor ComTac's we're issued in the SAF are supposed to be really resistant to shock. Not sure about shrapnel though, then again we wear them under our helmets.

Regular MSBS variants
Don't frequent firearms threads very often but I reckon I have an obligation to post this chunky boi somewhere.

Three 10 gauge barrels and two .577 nitro express. I can see absolutely no practical or theoretical use for this thing but god damn does it look sick.
Hunting dinosaurs.
Or you know, regular dangerous game hunting. There's a reason all the ridiculous-calibre break-actions are always double-barrelled, you do not want a pissed-off wingshot lion or wildebeest on your ass.
Well yeah but it's just something I don't see any reasonable hunter bringing over a double barrel.
Yeah, five barrels seem slightly excessive. I think three is generally accepted as being the practical maximum, and with those you got two big bore and one much smaller.
Can it fire all barrels at once?
Going by things I've seen about triple barrel shotguns I'm inclined to say no. It's got two triggers which I imagine fire the shotguns and rifles separately so theoretically you could fire two at the same time twice in a row. We'd really need a closer inspection to determine for sure though.
Either way I don't know if it would be physically possible for someone to handle that much recoil.
It was a joke but whatever.
Oh.
It's a gun made to kill the most dangerous predator of all time - the human pulling the trigger
one's almost certainly a set trigger if this is a high end hunting weapon.
I thought so too but doing some further digging they actually are for firing the shotguns and rifles seperately.

Their manual actually implied .22 rimfire was less than lethal
The Israeli Defense Force actually classifies subsonic .22LR as a nonlethal cartridge so they can justify using it for riot control.
"ow i'm bleeding out of my gumshot wound."
"yes but are you dead?"
"i mean... probably soon."
less than lethal
I think I know what the idea with those charging handles is. It's to let you charge it one-handed by pushing it against a hard surface, like a table edge or a small rock. That's still not a great idea (NOTHING in that gun is a great idea), especially if the main idea of the gun was as a rifle attachment, but it's better than deliberately designing a gun you have to put your hand in front of in order to load.
And maybe the manual was just poorly-written? Wouldn't surprise me if it was. I assume someone makes rubber bullets in .22LR, using an even lighter loading than normal .22LR would help it cycle slower, and "have a dedicated sublethal weapon attached to a rifle with completely separate controls so soldiers can't accidentally fire lethal rounds because they mixed up the magazines or whatever" isn't a bad idea. Probably kind of niche but we do seem to spend a lot of time fighting occupations where we really want to minimize civilian casualties, which is exactly where this kind of thing at least sounds useful.
I'm seeing a good idea that started this whole thing. They just made a pile of horrible godawful business, marketing, and engineering decisions on the route between concept and release. Like, why would you try to make this a dirt-cheap mass-market item? You're clearly angling for military contracts, you could machine it out of solid tungsten blocks blessed by the Pope at the cost of $2K apiece, and as long as you donate to the right senators, they'd be issuing every soldier two, one as a spare for when the first breaks.

Yeah it really sucks. But honestly, I don't think it's the absolute worst gun he's ever looked at, I think that honor goes to these:
https://youtu.be/2vq3bYSPs5o
He's looked at guns that have made him laugh, he's looked at guns that have confused him, but I think the Isard is the only gun that he actually seems to be genuinely afraid of.
he seemed genuinely concerned that the zip would blow up in his hand.
The thing is that the Isard can be salvaged with an improved recoil spring, which is far easier and cheaper than having to mill out a proper steel bolt for the zip 22. And that is just for starters. Giving the gun a better charging system would be the 2nd thing to fix.
For what it's worth about the charging handle, it's not entirely unique so they're not the only people to make that mistake. The Russian PP90M1 and prototypes of the PP2000 both had similar forward mounted charging handles:

Though it looks like at some point in the development both the PP90M1 and the PP2000 switched over to a G36 style charging handle. probably because Dmitri lost a finger in the testing.

Also since I'm already talking about it, they're making a civilian long gun version of the PP2000
