Launches from a standard M203/M320 grenade launcher, good for soft-skinned and light armored vehicles. Laser motherfucking guided.
I'd post the various under-barrel LAW and death-basketball launchers but apparently google has decided that 'rocket' and 'grenade' are synonyms so I can't fucking find them any more.

If that is an RPG-7 grenade, isn't that just basically suicide?

It's Iranian made, based on their local derivative of the RPG-7. I really don't know if it's firing rockets or just similar looking grenades though.

Not like my unit'll ever see any though. We still have old-school M203s with the oldschool heatshields for our oldschool M16A2s.
Got to fingerfuck an M320 a couple drills ago, though. We were at the range, a dude from another unit had one on his A2 (standard upper-handguard, lower removed, yes it was ugly). Seemed like a cheap, plastic version of the 203. If we can afford more of them though, and they work, what's wrong with cheap? Besides, they're probably lighter weight than the 203, which would make carrying them in the field easier, plus fix the problem I had with the 203 where it made the rifle annoyingly front-heavy.
I carry a 320 separate from my rifle, it carries much easier that way.
You can detach it from the rifle without the armorer screaming at you during turn-in? Even better.

It's a shame the 320 is so ugly compared to the classic 203, the opening mechanism is objectively superior.

It's turned in separately from the rifle. It has it's own stock as well so I don't know why anyone would actually mount it on the rifle.
Huh, are the 320s issued with their standalone stocks? I know 203s aren't, not least of which because the standalone module for the 203 is very large, but since the 320's stock is so much smaller I guess it wouldn't bog someone down too much to have it.

The AA-12 is a meme because why the fuck would you ever need a fully automatic combat shotgun. It's a solution looking for a problem.
The only really noteworthy role in which shotguns are ever employed by militarie in the modern day is for blowing hinges off doors, a job that can be performed by a shortened M870 that you can just sling and forget about when you're done needing it.
Police forces obviously aren't going to want a full auto shotgun for riot control either.
"auto shotguns" are a bit of a meme in general, the SPAS-15 and USAS-12 aren't exactly the most popular, just the AA-12 is the most recent and the most obnoxiously advertised so it appears in all the video games and youtube videos.

Regardless of meme status though, the idea of a fully automatic shotgun with minimal recoil that makes it possible to dual wield is just too wild to just glance over.

However one of the things that makes the 79 so cool is the firing mechanism, as you probably saw from that video, it requires absolutely no alteration of the firing grip to launch the grenade, and if we flip it over we can see why

That button on the side there? That's the trigger. The idea, as mentioned, is that it can be fired from a completely normal shooting stance. As you can see by its integration into the hand guard, the 79 was intended for use with HK style rifles, namely the G3 and the G41 which HK was pitching to the Bundeswehr at the time

Essentially this can be seen as a more NATO-friendly G3 derivative, 5.56 caliber, STANAG magazines, forward assist, folding dust cover and carrying handle.
