Red, because then you notice when it is dirty and you will actually clean it.
Yeah I quite like the standard Snap-On red look. It's kind of iconic by now.
My dads bright red tool box turned black after 20 years of him working at a trailer welding shop.
Well I don't work 9/5 at my workshop, it's also a clean garage where I keep my racecar. Not too worried about that.
Why Snap On? You can get similar or better quality boxes for less.
Because Europe. There aren't many quality boxes over here, and importing one from the US is very expensive.
Can confirm, we only have the worst china crap here. Or brands like sonic/beta. But I'm looking for a nice looking cart, and those brands only focus on functionality.
Have you thought about building one at all? You clearly have the fab skills.
I did. But then again I have a million other projects going on......to name a few -Carbon propshaft from a 350z for less then 100 euro -Electric power steering with adjustable force with a knob on my steering wheel (all the way from very strong to completely off) -making 50 more HP with a tune from a 230hp n/a engine -LS1 swap next year -arduino powered steering wheel with shiftlights and rpm /speed display read from CAN -custom suspension parts and loads more So another project might not be the best idea. But in the end I don't think I'd have the proper skills to make it the way I want to. Then it would spiral into something crazy again and probably end up costing more then just a snap-on kart. For the record the box I'm looking at is the KRL722, and I can get it for 1800 euro. Which isn't too bad.
I always see Geodore in every work place I ever go to, or GISS. But Geodore is quite expensive too, not sure how much compared to snap on
I should just be able to plastic weld my cracked door cards together, then prime and paint them, right? Can't think of anything wrong with it.
The Camaro paint project continues. The original paint was wrong at best, and a 2nd batch was just as wrong.. so I tried another shop. They have a spectrometer to analyze the paint and spit out a mix formula in attempts to match it. The 'closest match' was BMW techno violet, which then of course was altered. Here's the first try.. https://imgur.com/G4Z3j51 https://imgur.com/vhktCQd https://imgur.com/feK5qfR https://imgur.com/CvHbx6B I think we can call that "too violet". When it's not facing you it's perfect, but in direct reflection/ full light it's clear it doesn't light up blue as the original paint does. So we have the sprectrometer another shot and it came back with way less violet in the mix and way more blue/green pearl. That sounded like a winner so I shot a test card. https://imgur.com/3VlWDDW https://imgur.com/Dm8SdKA I think we're almost spot on now. It's a horrible color to attempt to match it seems like.. has about 3 different things it does. Lights up blue in direct light. https://imgur.com/eB66K2r https://imgur.com/edCnM8c Dark blue in a 'lit' room without reflecting the light source https://imgur.com/6BRXajX And turns violet in a couple different shades when out of the light https://imgur.com/Q4uMx4z https://imgur.com/5Pwt1ox So there we go. I disassembled and prepped the rest of the car now I just gotta mask and shoot it on my next day off. Hopefully that's the end of this nonsense. Learned a lot about matching paint, though, since this is only the 3rd time I've done it. Also.. why doesn't BB code work? Making these long posts full of big imgur blocks sucks. Each time you post one in it jumps back to the top of the post and sometimes they don't load properly and you need to delete and paste it back in a 2nd time. Very annoying.
green because it will cost a whole fucken lot of it
thank fucking god i never had to paint match a metallic color, seems like such a bitch to do
More rambling about on my toolcart hunt : I'm actually more and more looking at the older snap-on boxes. I really really like this classic one https://i.imgur.com/xwgjZYj.jpg
I'm tempted to do up my dads car as a bit of a hobby project but not sure if it's going to be all that easy. https://i.imgur.com/gJYK5MC.jpg It's a 2004 1.8 Vauxhall (Opel) Vectra with 58k miles on that runs but the clutch slips like crazy, AC hasn't worked in years, the gear stick wobbles like crazy when in gear, and I think the cambelt needs replacing.

wanna hear something great about vectras? you can fit an lz9 in it. 240 hp instead of like 110 in the 1.8
I don't get it my co-worker's 03' Explorer has fender rust like a fucking 4Runner and she only uses it for work. My 96' Explorer has been through hell and back and the only thing that's rusted is the bullbar. Not saying it's a bad thing but what the hell this is fucking awesome.
I got a 97 Explorer and there's some minor rust spots where the paint is chipped away, the under body is mostly rust free. If you take care of them they will last you.
Mmmm, nice 15G for the 940. https://i.imgur.com/ISVgXuy.jpg
so smol
I guess it probably just makes sense to get rid of it then. I can't imagine it's worth anything so i'll probably just scrap it.
Day of reckoning for sketchy today. Pulled the sheet metal to prep/refinish/rebuild the front end. All my suspension parts are here, brake kit arriving wendsday. But then i found something. https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/228931/8e1e86ed-c735-473b-ac10-70a061481500/IMG_1375.JPG https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/228931/03490bc1-169a-4eef-b281-6b24d75ff245/IMG_1376.JPG Someone at some point did this to the drum. Left hand side is fine, right hand side is missing the outside. On a scale of 1 to kill yourself, what are the odds of my spindle being ok?

Sucks but man I wish someone would crash into my car and write it off; would use the insurance compensation to get a properly good car!

Finally got the new tires mounted, it feels like a brand new car now. https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/211605/f58f883b-99fb-49d7-a818-5eb492db643c/IMG_20180818_125733.jpg
Found that after about 12 laps the Leaf battery gets to about 50c and the car pulls power quite a bit. Max power reduced from 80kW to about 55kW until the battery cools, which takes awhile since it's only passively cooled.
I just saw one of these at a car show. It had 30-40k miles on it, blacked out lights and a horrible Dale Earnhardt tribute airbrush on the hood, and it was for sale for a cool $21,000. Across the parking aisle, was a super nice 40s Ford Deluxe for $9k less
