Actually, I'm gonna get it. Take out the engine and part it out.
Then drop the engine in a E36 sedan.(You can buy an E36 sedan for 300-400$ just about any time of the day here)
beamer wagons are cool though
What do people here like for mid-range performance tyres?
My wife has left me, and has taken my house, got full custody of my son, and to top it off, I lost my job. All I have left is that god damn suburban and my motorcycle. I'm 26 years old and I have to be at my mom and dad's again.
Post cool cars please, or some fascinating history of cars.
i run Pilot Sport 4s on my M2, i had a set of Sport Cup 2s but holy shit they really dont last long even on road use but it seems both of those tyres are over the range of the RE003
So good and bad news on my 280ZX. Most all of the interior came clean, the cloth seats look nearly new aside from a cigarette burn, and the only thing that needs replacing inside is the carpet the rats chewed up. Going through the car was like a time capsule, the last time this thing was registered was 1998 and the previous driver kept alot of documents and stuff strewn about the interior. Found stuff ranging from a bra in the glovebox, a card for a dentist appointment, and some ancient McDonalds ketchup packets.
Bad news is that after cleaning the engine bay I found that the rats lived in there too, and chewed up some of the wiring near the frame. It's minor enough to be repairable but someone had replaced alot the wiring previously and none of it matches the routing or color coding in the Workshop Manual, so I have no idea where the wires match up to.
So despite working on the car for all of 2 days I already need to take it into a specialty shop because there's no way in hell I'm hooking up an entire new wiring harness myself. Welp.
Anyway, have some pictures pre-clean.

So I bought this junker, reason being its only 600$ was that it didn't run. It was sitting at a garage, they replaced the crankshaft and cam sensors, new fuel pump. But the thing wouldn't run.

So I spent 2 hours fixing some electrical issues and now it runs again. In the end it was only the BMW anti theft system (EWS 3) that was fucking things up. So I removed that and it fired right up.
You can remove the EWS3?
I know a guy who had a cheap E46 that developed an EWS issue and he sold it due to it. I googled and didn't find any basic answers to my question, mostly I got that EWS2 can be bypassed easy-enough and EWS3 is pretty much impenetrable?
who the fuck replaces a crankshaft that quickly?
"well it's not the spark, fuel pump or cam sensor... time to strip the block i guess"
i like vinyl tops
Ended up ordering a set of Pilot Sport 4s since I was lucky and managed to find them for cheap.
Will get them fitted thurs or friday, I'm excited. The RE040 Potenzas I've got on atm suck ass in the wet and are loud as fuck.
Maybe I said it wrong but they replaced the crankshaft (sensor) and cam sensors.
Oh yeah ok, fair enough
anybody know how easy it is to straighten a frame?
I've discovered that sketchy's front right horn is about 3/8hs low, and the rear about 3/8ths high. I figure i can fix the front with a jack, but the rear is another problem entirely
Yeah, there are some workarounds for it and some proper fixes for it. I use a customized version of the firmware on the ECU that completely removed the EWS related parts from the management. Completely eliminating it instead of bypassing it.
nice, im sure you will like them, they arent that loud luckily but i mean once i open the valves i cant even hear the tires anymore lmao
Dad bought a 2003 V70 4x4 2.4 diesel a few months ago.
He now bought a 2003 XC70 2.5T with a broken engine. It's probably the crankshaft bearings, turbo or something leaked oil and looks like it ran w/o oil and blew them. Thinking about parting it or fixing it, depends on how much the engine got hurt.
Big smash is complete. Up next is bed-bars and maybe a new grille.
Then Wasteland weekend next year.

I love it
Dropped my car off at a body shop and I got a CVT Forester for a loaner. All I wanted was a normal sedan, this thing blows.
So I already got it a few weeks ago but I finally got decent enough pics worth sharing:

I finally got a Miata, and I'm loving it. This is from a random trip I just decided to take and got list with. It was great.
Got more money than i thought for the write off. Relatives are selling a 2003 jag and a newer mini, thinking about which one to go for.
Was also looking at a citroen ds3 which looka fun as fuck, under 100k km on the odo
which jaguar?
And did it have the timing chain problem fixed? If it's still on the road its a good bet it did.
Been a while since i last saw it, iirc was an xj.
Not sure on the chain, all i know is the owner is a car savvy person so I'd like to think it's fine. I'll ask when i see him though.
If it's still on the road odds are it's been fixed. Otherwise the block tends to crack in half.
Other than that, those things will go forever.
fitted the Pilot Sport 4s.
Started raining
fark they grip so well in the wet, literally never gonna buy another tyre ever, PS4s from now on only
So I think the 1953 Dodge Storm is now my favorite car.

Powered by a hemi V8. Too bad this never hit production, it was a Corvette killer.
This is why i hate suits. That thing was a corvette killer ready for production before the corvette was nearly even finalized on paper. Yet one suit said no, and that was that.
In April 1954, Fred took his pride (now called the Storm Z-250) to
Chrysler's design headquarters in Hamtramck. After his father's death,
his uncle Jim Zeder became the Chief Engineer. He was trained for years
by the old trio to not be supportive when it came to new ideas. He
borrowed the car so Chrysler could evaluate it, but instead he locked it
up in the factory's storage for two years, under which nobody was
supposed to touch or even mention the car.
so not only did that moron say no, but he stole the prototype and locked it up, and put a ban on even talking about it so that it couldn't be pitched to anyone else.
My robert macnerma voodoo doll gets a few extra pins in it every time i think about that shit. Fuck suits and all those that worship at the altar of charts and hypochondriac-like risk mitigation.
So far I've read Lee Iaccoca's and Bob Lutz's books on when they worked for the big three, and I can only dream about what would've been if the bean counters/Henry Ford/Gov would have let them be. Like holy shit Ford could've obliterated the market in the 70's and possibly destroyed Chrysler if H. Ford wasn't a paranoid racist towards anyone he felt threatened by.
and more more unemployed whining. I checked cl again (cause im sure im masochistic at this point), and there was a kp60 starlet for 2.5k.
People (myself included) often shit on American cars for being ugly, inelegant and tasteless compared to European contemporaries, but man there have there been some good lookers to come out of the USA; that, the 1969 Chevrolet Manta Ray concept and C3 Corvette, the Panoz Esperante GTR-1, even the last gen of Dodge Viper (without the stripes) looked like something that could have been made by an Italian design studio.
