its not that american car designers have no taste, it's that american bean counters are afraid to do anything even a little bit radical. every once in a while something slips through the cracks, but it hasn't happened in quite some time

Eh, I dunno. Definitely don't think it's true these days.

Biased, obviously, but all of the big three put out some preddy badass machinery that usually punches well above it's pricepoint nowadays. Camaro/Rustang are both legitimately great sports cars, double so when you look at ZL1 1LE/GT350Rs, etc. The cant turn meme is pretty much dead, they're both pretty competitive with German rivals that are way above their pricepoint. If a, uh, soft touch door panel and the like here and there is the sacrifice for that, I'm more than willing to take it.

As for dodge, well. They already proved the point with the Viper/Viper ACR. That's not around anymore, sadly. But still, I'll take an inelegant 797hp all the way to the track and back, myself.

you can get away with radical when it's an established performance-oriented nameplate (camaro, corvette, etc.) or if it's a particular type of vehicle that's doing particularly well in the market (raptor, etc.). you cant get away with something like a malibu being some wild thing.

Stripes are bloody childish and scream boy racer. Stripes are barely, barely acceptable on some muscle cars like the Dodge Challenger, but stripes on an otherwise clean Viper just completely upset the beautiful bodywork.

Putting stripes on a car is one of the least tasteful things anyone could ever do. You could go for months here in Australia without ever seeing a car with stripes on it.
