Can a coil be cheap and be at least somewhat reliable?
One of my coils went bad in my 2000 Sentra 1.8L and Amazon has some interesting listings.
AutoZone: $72 for 1
Amazon: $43 for 4
Worth trying or nah?
Cheapo stuff like that probably won't last like OEM but if you're only replacing one you'll have 3 spares for future failures. Autozone is probably charging oem prices for fuckin importdirect
I think your coil OEM is Denso, so their stuff would be the same as what the car shipped with.
you always replace in sets. when i worked in autoshops my techs always wanted to "just replace one it'll be fine," and without fail the car always came back with another dead coil.
Well that explains why this coil went bad. One went bad about half a year ago as well and I was told to just replace the one.
It's like brake pads or spark plugs, you wouldn't replace one pad or 1 plug. They're a wear item, albeit a very slow wearing one.

I love this thing. They got 460 crank horses out of a stock XK6. Stock rotating assembly, stock head, stock cam. Makes me want to get more than that mighty 185 out of mine.

You can get new and historic race cams for those motors no problem. I always wanted to do a broadspeed inspired XJ6 build with the V12 (including inboard suspension, but these guys beat me to it), but man if the 6 can get that much power, why bother. Y'all can keep your 2jz's, rule britania.
I also have a 159 2.2 Lusso. It's had some suspension work done but the rest has been flawless. Flew through its last MOT with no advisories despite being 12 years old.
To be fair, this generation of Alfa had completely throw off the reliability issues that plagued older Alfas, it's only the reputation that persists for some reason.
What's the safest way to store a car with no suspension? I assume just a bunch of jack stands?
Need to replace a bunch on the Miata soon, saw someone doing it on one of my FB groups, and I figured I might as well tear out all of the running gear, replace everything wearable, repaint, and throw some nice coilovers on.
Four jackstands. One on each jacking point
in my experience mg anything is worse than its reputation
Out of a jag 6 that was never meant to be turboed it is.
If i didn't have bad luck, I'd have no luck at all. This is just the cherry on top of the shit pie my life has become.

with an engine designed in 1946 without any actual modifications to the motor itself, yeah it fuckin' is
the engine was designed in 46 but was given significant upgrades over the course of its life. that's kinda like saying the lsx454r is a gen 1 small block
Nope. First heads from the XK120 are bolt on swappable to the last in '92. They spaced out the bores over the years for the 4.2 but that's about it.
idk what yall drive if u dont think 460 isn't a lot...
22 bolts on an 8P Audi A3 convertible JUST to take the cover off to reach the oil drain plug
holy fuck that is dumb
GERMAN ENGINEERING
I remember working in a shop in a richer area, and this lady brought in an Audi SUV, don't remember the model, but it was a v8 AWD and the only way to get the drainplug out is to remove the front axle.
Remove the front axle. Literally the drainplug would interfere with the axle before it was threaded all the way out.
Audi just suctions the oil out from the top.
sawzall takes three seconds and you've got a nice access hole
tbh, i considered getting a RS3 Sportback before i decided on my bimmer, i have a soft spot for Turbo i5s but it was more expensive and VAG maintenance is actually much worse and more expensive than BMW so i said fuck it.
It was probably designed that way on purpose to keep anyone but VAG techs from working on it. Most dealers have oil evac systems. If the oil filter is up top in the engine bay, it'd probably be a really quick service.
It's a massive bitch if you don't have the necessary special snowflake shit, though.
This is exactly it. My shop, not being a Vag shop, we had to figure some convoluted shit out to change the ladies oil. We ended up partly unbolting the axle enough to get the last few threads on the plug, and oil went mother fucking EVERYWHERE, since it had no clear path to go.

'nother panel down. Also the blue was way too bright so i did the firewall in black too
I'm working on this now and it's not as bad as I thought. I managed to get the snapped screw out without fucking any of the threads and when I went to put it all back together, the pinion (the little gear) has COMPLETELY dropped off the face of the earth. It was literally just in my fucking hands where the FUCK is it?!?!?!?! I've looked in every conceivable place.
I had a Rover 75 for a while as well which, while pretty old man style, was pretty reliable, cheap to maintain, and great to drive.
The TF so far has cost me very little.
I guess everyone has different experiences
You also live in MGland. I have a theory, the further an MG get's from Britain, the more likely it's gonna shit itself
Knock knock, who's there?
