Actually they're going up in value. I think they're finally coming around
dog bless mazda for putting the pcv valve under the intake manifold
I'm noticing some fine metal whenever I wipe the dipstick with a cloth while checking the oil in my Mercedes 190E, which I do about twice a week because the engine burns oil. Car goes in next week for new front coil springs, which is funny because the engine is pretty much worn out. My future plan is to swap a 3.0 M103 or 3.2 24V M104 into it and continue to have fun with it but I'm thinking I should get another car as a daily driver. I'm still in school and am working part time at a top biopharmaceutical manufacturer, but my contract is up December 31st. I should be able to stash 4 months of rent in that time and be able to pay the down payment and monthly payments on a new car and have a job I can go back to if my contract isn't renewed (I'd be surprised if they didn't renew me but stranger things have happened). I'm thinking about buying a brand new VW Golf Sportwagen S with 4-Motion and a 6 speed manual, learning how to drive stick properly in it, and then slowly phase out my 190E from daily commuter service with it. I'm already pre-approved for financing but I think VWoA Financial Services may be able to beat the offer I already have, and I can manage the extra $500 a month between the payment and insurance increase if I get stuck doing valet parking instead of my nice contract project engineering job. It's just a shame that I'll have to live with a couple grand of credit card debt until I graduate (I hate shell out cash for interest charges even if I have a trust and can pay them off). Anyway, anyone have any recommendations or comments on my situation or VW Golf 1.8t sportwagens? Really my goal is to avoid having a major failure on the 190E and as a result get stuck without a car, and I don't want another car that someone did the bare minimum maintenance to keep it on the road, and interest rates on used cars are ridiculous.
the bug died outside of the pub last night rip :< https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/238842/a9729f55-d4b8-4891-8f83-2898cd6f04a7/44929538_10155908687743907_3346314947092021248_o.jpg

Dad got offered a 2001 Opel Vectra from an old coworker for 250€. Dude would have scrapped it otherwise. The body is fine, half-leather interior, winter tires, but no MOT/Roadworthiness test. Apparently the failure point was the ABS light on the dash and an exhaust leak. The exhaust had been done, but the guy who diagnosed the ABS told that the module is broken and needs to be replaced and apparently also did a compression test and said 2-3 cylinder are bad. Of course he bought it, whatever you do, that's a bargain for it. The car drove normally, engine has plenty of power and one day the ABS worked, other not. Also it got a misfire with a warm engine. Dad's an old shadetree mechanic, he wanted to just put tape over the abs light, but taking the dash out takes a lot of time. Apparently the ABS module is a weak point in these cars, and taking that out and fixing the cold solder joint is a lot easier, so we did that instead. Horrible, how fixing the car is easier than hiding the problems with it.. The misfire was a bad coil plug. A quick clean of the sparkplugs and a bit of tape over the coil fixed that and the 250€ cheapo now has proper MOT. Sometimes you can just luck out on some deals. If only that would happen a bit more often...
how the fuck does an engine run with that much bearing wear.
So, the Audi's got a new fancy problem. I managed to get a couple misfires when I accelerated onto the interstate maybe a bit too heavily while the car was super cold the other week. Like, we're talking hadn't driven for 2 days because it was the weekend and I was a lazy fuck, it just snowed and was a frigid morning prior to the sun being out, kind of super cold. It was only a few misfires, the check engine light blinked about it. The OBDII codes didn't tell me which cylinders misfired though so I'm confused as fuck as to what the problem is. I probably just need to bite the bullet and replace my coils and spark plugs. But I've tried my damndest to replicate the issue a good couple times since then and had no luck, so idk if that'd actually fix the problem because the fucking problem just went away on its own.
remind me, which audi did you have? specifically the engine, is it a turbo v6?
